  • I love Lodge cast iron pans. Why did I spend my money on this Finex frying pan?

Me too. Now I got 4 to 5 pieces.
      I use Smithey for Eggs
I use Finex for everything else.
Smithey is polished even on the walls so it makes egg cooking much better.

I own the whole set of finex pans. And it is the best set of cookware that I have ever spent money and COOKED with. They cook so well that it makes me feel like I am a better cook and up my game. The way the smooth the bottom of the pan...I never had to season the pan. It was nonstick right from the box. They cook extremely well. The presentation of them also makes my food look better too when serving it up. And there is a difference between price and cost. I consider them worth the price, this is something that gets passed down for generations. Can't wait to see how you do with you cooking it over wood.

@@MasterofPlay7 They acquired Finex, but the process is under pure Finex oversight. Bought a Finex 12”, 14” and Gridde. Lodge has me in disbelief because their edges are uneven and have ridges in them from the overflow of the metal while making it. Awfully frustrating.

What you are talking about is Value. Everyone will pay a little or a lot extra for what ever they feel is of value. I ride a motorcycle and gear comes in all price brackets. It's still just a pant or jacket or helmet. Maybe with more or less leather or armor. My helmets are over $1000 each. Probably no worse or not much better than cheaper. However the value of an extra light helmet (carbon fiber) comes from daily riding when your neck is not being stressed at every stop. The details might not sound like much but a few less ounces makes a big difference over weeks or years of riding. That makes me feel good about the purchase.
This pan is cool looking and may help you cook a little faster or keep things warm a little longer, etc. Another thing is I try to get one or two of the best available thing rather than collections. It cost more up front but I don't have a collection of 50 pans or helmets, etc. that are $20 or $100 each. In the end a few quality items are cheaper than a huge collection of cheaper items. If you keep it for 10 years that's only $30 each year. If you keep it for 20 years that's only $15 each. Long after you have forgotten about the price you will be enjoying it and enjoying it each day.
How much is you daily happiness worth?
Everyday you think about it, see it or use it you will smile.
$300 for decades of smiles and joy sounds cheap to me. As another channel pointed out, you buy a car for thousands (just to get it) and that will not last you a lifetime. This will and with no real maintenance costs.
    Cheers.

Thank you for the great feedback! You are absolutely correct. It's better to have a few quality items. I have really been enjoying the pan and its working great for serving and cooking meals. I just picked up the Finex griddle and love that also. Thanks again for the feedback!

      @@livefiredetroit8661 Glad to help.
Any ideas or experience with cleaning the spring handle?
I've been thinking of getting the 8 inch with lid for small home jobs and maybe moto-camping. But how do I get the old food and burnt on grease (from maybe being in an oven) off and out of that handle?

    • @livefiredetroit8661
      @livefiredetroit8661  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@ShadowBoxer I'm sure you can just wash it off with warm water and put in on the burner to dry. So far this has not been a problem at all. Even on the campfire. This pan is fantastic. Last week I pulled a lodge cast iron off the fire while wearing a leather heat proof glove. I still burned my hand through the glove. I can pick up my Finex without any glove. Just be careful because the handle is small.

Hey! if it makes you happy! it's worth every penny you spent!. Me, for that amount of money, I'd get a vintage restored Griswold, Wagner, or BSR, Griswold's are light, and have glass surfaces, it's also pretty cool to cook on skillets that are over 100 yrs old and in pristine condition

I still can't decide whether to try Finex, Burough Furnace, Field Company or Smithey Ironware or just stick with Lodge.
My income says Lodge, on sale, though.

Yeah, I got too many finex pans after getting bit with the finex bug... being a Portlander didn't help any. I finally came to my senses after I got the all of the skillets and the dutch oven that I never use. Was on my way to buy the 1qt sauce pan and decided I'd rather spend that $150 on something else...

So If lodge bought out Finex does that mean they are/already changed the quality of the Finex pans? I find the quality and design of Lodge to be standard. And the reason I wanted Finex was because of the outstanding quality I hear so much about. Will lodge water down the quality? This new information got me worried. I’m thinking about buying the entire Finex set for $1.7K. I’ll be real upset if I pay that only to find out it’s a lodge with a high price tag.

Lodge bought them, but they still have autonomy in their manufacturing, and now have a huge boost in distribution due to Lodge already having a very established relationship with tons of stores Nationwide.

I had a Lodge 12" skillet. It had a rough surface, and always lost its seasoning. No matter what I did, I could never get food to release. I finally gave up and donated it to Goodwill.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder., I think you will enjoy it. They are nice skillets from what I understand. I disagree about the “cool looking” aspect. But so what? You seem to love it and that’s great, it is your piece of iron.

  • @jamesprior2496

Beautiful! Nice for you. That's one of those purchases that you will be glad you made many, many years from now, Sir!
However, I'm not sold. I will buy a LODGE for $25 and a nice oven mitt.
(No disrespect meant to you. I understand 100% why you bought it and there's no need to justify it to others.)
I would liken it to firearm owners such as myself. Do I really NEED another pistol or shotgun? Probably not, but I WANT another one. Why? Because!

The last few years I was back and forth about buying this set and decided not to. I found the octagon design silly. It serves absolutely no purpose and the handle is too short. You would think the handle design is to cool it down but The engineer omitted heat transfer directly from the handle shaft to the brass cap. You are holding the brass cap the entire time and it's hot.

A good 10 years ago I was walking through COSTCO and I noticed they had some 11 inch cast iron enameled inside and out frypans with a lid and one long handle and one shorty. I grabbed one and put it in my cart. What did I pay for it? If I remember correctly about $40.00, since I already had a 7 1/4 quart Le Creuset, I could see this frypan was well made. The fit and finish was as good as the Le Creuset so I was pretty confident it would be a winner and it was. I've been using it for 10 years and it looks like new. TheReaper!

Costco's warranty is great in case you ever need to replace it as well. Costco was selling a 5qt and 7qt enameled Dutch oven for $40 TOTAL ($45 now after their sale ended). You can't beat that.
