The idea of a paladin in the middle of a fight with a demon, suddenly looking at his scepter and going: "....holdon I'll be right back" opening a portal, running to town, visiting a blacksmith, and then returning to continue beating a demon to death, is very funny to me :3
Which explains why the town portal was nerfed heavily in the later installments. The forces of hell no doubt complained to Blizzard!. It's no wonder they are evil, can't let the forces of good have anything nice :(
Thank you for making these videos. I am part of the group of 35+ year old guys who still play D2R and have been playing D2 since we were 12. Ive watched and tried all forms of the game to keep it fun and its always a pleasure to watch someone do a playthrough in a unique way. I get excited for you everytime a sigons piece drops
This reminds me of my friend's dad. He is 70+ senior and in love in D2. When we got to chat about it and he found out that I also play the game, he proceeded to proudly show me his characters. Most of them looked like Your mighty Paladin 😎
This video confirmed the fact that you will finish all 3 difficulties of this game no matter what challenge you choose. Nothing can stop the loot goblin from getting through the whole game. I mean… yes and no. The people doing these challenges have a very very deep understanding of the game. I’ve had toons that just couldn’t survive in hell mode more than once and every time a demon looked at me I died

This is such a great highlight to why Diablo 2 is such a great game, making you really think about the challenges ahead of you and being creative with the available items and skills at hand. This randomized build had to really work at it, but could still beat the game by being clever and exploring the advantages/disadvantages of the the items and skills and stats that you were faced with. When I saw you pick paladin, I was hoping it would be a conversion run. Then you kept fighting and I was thinking "is he not going to figure it out?" but then you did and I knew it was over for baal, haha. I used to love playing conversion/thorns in the early days of D2. It was never good, but I had a lot of fun. Glad to see it in the wild again. GGs.
it's one of the things i find a bit jarring on ARPGs, i mean, we have 10 fingers, why not at least 1 more ring per hand? (okk, going rings on all fingers would be a tad silly, not to mention impractical with how some are more ornate, but AT LEAST one more?) i remember playing an old ARPG that did allow a second ring per hand, total of 4 rings.
@@EMDakkathe easy answer is balancing reasons, but c’mon at least give a lore reason why you can’t put rings on 3-4 fingers each hand. The people in these magical worlds would HATE the idea of brass knuckles.

@@EMDakka It might have been one of the Elder Scrolls games? I know there are some games that rationalise "One ring per hand" with that explanation: Magic is very fickle, and putting two rings together causes the magic to go haywire.
Lore is almost never the wrong decision for you. Your merc can look after himself (or not, but not your problem). A random assassin would be cool. They've just got so many weird and wacky skills, that whatever you find might be useful (with a few +skills). Traps, kicks, multi charge explosions, summons. It'd be a kaleidoscope of pressing skills and seizure warnings.
I would disagree on both your statements. Lore is cool, but bulwark was way more important. And the assassin barely has any good skills without actually putting 20+ points into them. I bet you'd end up using blade fury/sentinel and dragon talon. If you're very lucky, you would unlock death sentry at some point, but none of the other skills would matter. Thst is, unless you get some lucky points into shadow warrior as a blocker. There is just no skill to deal damage besides kicks and blade skills, that do jig require a lot of skill points.
0:15 I showed D2 to a friend in like 6th grade, and he asked me what to put his stats in. I never had any idea and I told him to just spread them all out evenly. He became obsessed with the game and started reading forums and learning how to play the game, and told me what an idiot I was lol.
Haha this reminded me of when my friend and I played d2 on LAN way back in the day and we went with shout barbarian + defiance Paladin and compared who had the most defense because that was the easiest number to get big for us. We didn’t make it far 😁
What Christmas present, I found your videos the other day and a binged them all xD Would you ever consider a challenge with Necro in the future? I'd love to watch that, or melee Assassin, Amazon or Sorcerer? I always loved both Ama and Ass, trying wacky builds with them, but all their melee builds seems to suck. I've been playing D2 since I got my first computer for Christmas in 2003, and I've only ever made a Conversion-using Paladin a couple of times.. but I remember them both fondly. There's something about it that makes it a very satisfying skill to use.

You found Hwanin's Justice at Mephisto (27:35) before that Pike/Thresher in A2 Hell, so wouldn't that have been an upgrade back then over Malice, at least for the attack speed? Also, what I found ironic is that you discarded Trang Oul's armor with the 40% frw right before saying "I got through it as fast as I could" in A4 Hell. Great content, thanks for making these.
Unique bows that fire exploding arrows don't just add Holy Fire to the arrow, but to the explosion too, which makes it pretty powerful. Same isn't true for Holy Shock or Freeze I think

i find it so hilarious how i utterly avoided conversion back when i played d2 lod casually, and never really made it far into hell, and here you are basically being carried through it with a handful of points into it.

When I do random skill builds I roll among skills I already have, plus one for "new skill". For example if I have 3 skills I roll 1-4, and if 4 is rolled, I then roll among the unpicked skills. This allows the build to be randomized while having specializations instead of trending towards a flat distribution of all skills. Last time I did end up with level 17 Leap, and it sure was entertaining! I've tweaked some minor rules each run too, like assigning points to prereqs when a subsequent skill gets rolled, but not considering those prereqs among the skills I have for the sake of rolling until they are specifically rolled as a "new skill". Also for Barbarian I allowed one "mulligan" reroll whenever a weapon skill gets rolled, to lower the odds of getting stuck with multiple different weapon specializations.
I love your videos. They are well thought out from start to finish. You keep a kind of atmosphere in them that makes you want to keep watching. I admire you. I myself would like to start making videos of this type, but I have a huge problem with recording voice commentary. In the video I'm currently working on, the 40-second intro took me almost an hour, and the video is supposed to be 30 minutes long. Can you help me by telling how you plan your videos that they come out so naturally?
Thanks, I'm glad you like the videos. I'm sorry to tell you that I have no secrets for doing it faster. Recording the commentary takes a long time for me as well. I'm faster now compared to when I started, but it's all just thanks to practice of doing it a bunch of times. Something that has helped me is to type out exactly what I want to say in a script and then just read it back when recording, so I don't have to think about what to say at the same time as I'm speaking. It takes extra time since you have to write a full script for 30+ minutes of talking, but then at least I can control the "story" and the commentary so it flows nicely and covers what I wanted to talk about. For reference, I can record around 5 minutes of commentary in an hour if I have a prepared script that I can just read from. As for how I plan my videos - for the challenge videos the "story" just happens naturally. I take notes of interesting things that happen as I'm playing and write the script as I go through the challenge. The nice thing about doing challenges is that you can lean heavily on progression through the challenge for the structure of the video.

WAHEEEEEEEEEED! I was like 8 when d2 came out, and a kid in my class told me he also played d2. Alex, who became my best friend for years after that, would ALWAYS choose waheed. And he would always shout his name. Didn’t matter if it was 2 am, we would be on a cordless phone talking to eachother and his merc would die. NOOOO WAHEEEEEED! Then his father would come downstairs and yell at him and our night run was ruined. Man I miss this game so much, and honestly, I miss Alex. So many memories from this game. This was my life. From the year it was released until 2007 when i graduated high school. I played for years after too, but Alex and I lost our friendship 😢

The pul rune at the end could be used for wisdow, which is ith eld pul in a helm, to get that extra Pierce and cannot be frozen. I salute u for the courage to try this insane challenge, great video !
bit of a heads up, other then potion management and skill tree methodology, poe2 plays heavily like d2. Things like difficulty swapping and boss farming are easily seen, but character management for becoming more powerful definitely shares the same flow as d2....almost as much as the first area being plague lands, second being a desert, 3rd act being a damned jungle XD. Hope to see your channel stay in the algorithm, you got good flow in your video's. sub+
"conversion" If you want to see the true greatness of such a build, try a Necro that uses Confuse as a primary skill. It's not super effective, but it's definetly a useful skill. "holy fire+kuko shakaku" Possibly THE best combination to level up with a paladin for quite a while.
When I found out how useful conversion is, one of my first reactions was that I have to give confuse another chance! My opinions of skills are still largely based on end game farming scenarios but some skills really shine in (low power) SSF play throughs.
The first time I ever played D2 it was the box edition and I was like 9 or 10 lol. the biggest memory I have from it though is the very end of act 5 I beat Baal, got hyped, went into nightmare and the quills kept one shotting my druid through all of my armor abilities and I really don't remember playing much after that.

Wow I’ve played d2 for almost 25 years and I’ve never seen that magic weapon horadric cube recipe with the gems. Then again I don’t think I would have ever needed to use it lol.
There’s just a few like that and they’re not great because they have a fixed (low-ish) item level, but they’re very neat imo and I wish there were more recipes like that
When i was a kid, in 3rd world country. I swear the god, 3 words of English i knew were yes, no, okay. I did randomly add stats points, skill points like the video. But still beat up the game. Druid summons Wolf, Bear, Worm and Spirit ( Cracked version ) 😆

So what happened if the randomizer picked a skill that you didn’t have the prerequisite for? Like when you hit 18 and could get hammers, but the randomizer never chose holy bolt before that? Or was that coded into the randomizer?
That was coded into the randomizer! So high level skills with a lot of prerequisite skills were much less likely to get, like I never got a single point in holy shield
I hate to ask here but could you tell Sir Goblin that his app doesnt fit on every screen because on my laptop I can't reach the bottom to click the buttons
been trying this challenge recently and damn is it starting to get rough. I chose sorc. since they have so few bad skills i thought it wouldn't be too bad if a point gets put somewhere i dont want it. Not sure this has worked out well for me since it's just ended up with every skill having 1 or 2 points in it and nothing really standing out as a way to deal damage (except static field which as always is amazing). the leaf runeword and a good staff have managed to get me through normal pretty nicely but the damage drop off is starting to hit hard already
This was my main concern with a lot of classes, they have good skills but they’re really not great with only 1-5 points in them. I guess static can carry you in normal if you get it. GL with the challenge!

currently level 23 and it wants me to do a Fist of Fire build, it's given me 0 points for things like Burst Of Speed or Claw Defense
Man, this really shows just how strong the Paladin is. It really doesn't seem to matter if you have a build or not, at least for experienced players.

I take notes of interesting things that happen as I'm playing and write the script as I go through the challenge. The nice thing about doing challenges is that you can lean heavily on progression through the challenge for the structure of the video.

I was like 8 when d2 came out, and a kid in my class told me he also played d2. Alex, who became my best friend for years after that, would ALWAYS choose waheed. And he would always shout his name. Didn’t matter if it was 2 am, we would be on a cordless phone talking to eachother and his merc would die. NOOOO WAHEEEEEED! Then his father would come downstairs and yell at him and our night run was ruined. Man I miss this game so much, and honestly, I miss Alex. So many memories from this game. This was my life. From the year it was released until 2007 when i graduated high school. I played for years after too, but Alex and I lost our friendship 😢
Random skills and stats? Sounds like my first 50 playthroughs way back when 😂

The pul rune at the end could be used for wisdow, which is ith eld pul in a helm, to get that extra Pierce and cannot be frozen. I salute u for the courage to try this insane challenge, great video !

bit of a heads up, other then potion management and skill tree methodology, poe2 plays heavily like d2. Things like difficulty swapping and boss farming are easily seen, but character management for becoming more powerful definitely shares the same flow as d2....almost as much as the first area being plague lands, second being a desert, 3rd act being a damned jungle XD. Hope to see your channel stay in the algorithm, you got good flow in your video's. sub+

If you want to see the true greatness of such a build, try a Necro that uses Confuse as a primary skill.
It's not super effective, but it's definetly a useful skill.

Possibly THE best combination to level up with a paladin for quite a while.
When I found out how useful conversion is, one of my first reactions was that I have to give confuse another chance!
My opinions of skills are still largely based on end game farming scenarios but some skills really shine in (low power) SSF play throughs.
@@zarfen There's also Mind blast for the assassin. Though that seems slightly more "accepted" for some reason.

The first time I ever played D2 it was the box edition and I was like 9 or 10 lol. the biggest memory I have from it though is the very end of act 5 I beat Baal, got hyped, went into nightmare and the quills kept one shotting my druid through all of my armor abilities and I really don't remember playing much after that.

I think it would be amazing if you do this challange with Necro, because every random skill level up can be somewhat useful. As a Paladin most skills are wasted.
The fact I can play through normal and almost never find a unique without grinding a little, and you got 3 in act 1 is wild to me

Wow I’ve played d2 for almost 25 years and I’ve never seen that magic weapon horadric cube recipe with the gems. Then again I don’t think I would have ever needed to use it lol.
There’s just a few like that and they’re not great because they have a fixed (low-ish) item level, but they’re very neat imo and I wish there were more recipes like that

When i was a kid, in 3rd world country. I swear the god, 3 words of English i knew were yes, no, okay. I did randomly add stats points, skill points like the video. But still beat up the game. Druid summons Wolf, Bear, Worm and Spirit ( Cracked version ) 😆

already but , try to play without using the store or your storage . Only using your inventory , ground is allowed .

So what happened if the randomizer picked a skill that you didn’t have the prerequisite for? Like when you hit 18 and could get hammers, but the randomizer never chose holy bolt before that? Or was that coded into the randomizer?
That was coded into the randomizer! So high level skills with a lot of prerequisite skills were much less likely to get, like I never got a single point in holy shield
I hate to ask here but could you tell Sir Goblin that his app doesnt fit on every screen because on my laptop I can't reach the bottom to click the buttons

been trying this challenge recently and damn is it starting to get rough.
I chose sorc. since they have so few bad skills i thought it wouldn't be too bad if a point gets put somewhere i dont want it. Not sure this has worked out well for me since it's just ended up with every skill having 1 or 2 points in it and nothing really standing out as a way to deal damage (except static field which as always is amazing).
the leaf runeword and a good staff have managed to get me through normal pretty nicely but the damage drop off is starting to hit hard already
This was my main concern with a lot of classes, they have good skills but they’re really not great with only 1-5 points in them. I guess static can carry you in normal if you get it.
