  • Flagstaff has a lot to offer an outdoor enthusiast, especially Mountain Bikers!
    I did a group ride with Valley Epic Rides, a Phoenix MTB Group, while my best friend Jeani was down visiting from Idaho. This is the first part, Sunset Trail. It was my first time riding it and I can't wait to go back and hit it again! I struggle on a few sections so next time I'm looking to clean it up.
    Valley Epic Rides is a Phoenix based group and they have lots of options for MTB Rides, usually no drop! I'm sure I'll be doing more rides with them this winter.
    It was a decent day in the saddle, we climbed up Eldon Rd to the top where the Radio Towers are and then proceeded down Sunset Trail which drops you at the top of Shultz Creek (that's pretty cool, cause I love Schultz!). To keep things in a certain time range I decided to split this ride into two videos. Stay tuned for the Shultz Creek Edit!
    As always...be sure to hit that thumbs up button and then subscribe to the channel. HUGE shout out to everyone thats become part of my MTB Family, cheers to many more rides!!

    Tried a compressor program for the first time...to try and speed up the upload speed to YT. Not sure how the quality is. My internet is some times dodgy. (By dodgy I mean it dodges my computer hahaha) Still have a TON to learn on that side. Any tips and/or trade secrets you're willing to share...drop em below! TIA 🙌🏼

      Still looks pretty good overall. Not quite as sharp as some others, but if it makes your life easier it could be worth it. I also enjoy 60 frames per second footage for action sports.

    Wow! Starting to consider a Flagstaff road trip once I’m back on the bike. Thanks for posting this! And way to go for it on that tech climb!

      It's worth it! Several sweet trails in Flag and don't forget Sedona is right around the corner...
      How's the arm? Hopefully on the mend. Thanks for the kudos 🙌🏼, trying to spend more time "trying" those techy climbs instead of just default hike a biking it.

      Gonna be cold up there soon, Phoenix'll be perfect though 😉

    The quality looks good but the colors look a bit muted. Trails look fun. I love that high alpine stuff in the pines.

      I'd be curious how it looks on a video that was shot during ideal/better conditions. I think on this day I had the settings wrong (more for a sunny day) so that might have something to do with it? 🤷🏼‍♀️
      I love Flag for that very reason, it's completely different terrain from what I ride at home!

      Next time you are out, we can hit this trail! That is if I am not broken 🤷‍♂️

    Gorgeous views. Love Flagstaff. Would like to try mountain biking instead of trail running sometime.

    Donna this was a fun ride and as usual GoPro did not do justice the the steep climb, descents or even how rocky the trail was. It was well worth the trip however and I’m looking forward to doing again once my shoulder heals. Keep up the good work. You keep posting I’ll keep watching. Heyoo!

      GoPro effect haha. Was a great day on the bike and loved riding with all you guys! Hope you're on the mend and getting closer to being able to ride your bike. Just in time for the cooler weather that's coming!

    One of my all-time favorites! Lots of variety. More technical at the top with an amazing payoff in the 2nd half of the ride :)

      This was my first time riding it, I enjoyed it and believe it’s one of those that only gets better each time you ride it. I had no idea it finished with Schultz, what a great bonus and way to end the ride.

    Nice trail! Great job cleaning that first punchy climb! At least you beat the first snow!

      Outback Wack thanks 🙌🏼. About time to be prime weather in PHX. I’ll be there in two or three weeks for NICA.

    Thanks for sharing... used to do this ride every weekend during the summer when I lived in PHX - cousins live in Flag so was always convenient to do so (and necessary to get out of the heat). Lots of amazing (and scary) trails there. We'd most often ride Sunset to Brookbank to Little Gnarly then down Schultz. Then would end up on the patio at Flag Brew. Good times!

      That's awesome and you guys were lucky to have that "nearby". Some great trails and views no doubt! The awesome weather is on it way back in for PHX, Havasu Etc....Looking forward to being able to ride comfortably in the middle of the day LOL...
      Hope you're still getting to ride wherever you live now!

      Geoff R I’ve got some Boise videos coming up. Spent just shy of two weeks up there at the beginning of this month. (My best friend lives up there). So many great trails!

      @@RCRGIRL Sweet... look forward to them! Did see your Dry Creek video...was heading up to ride that yesterday - then it started snowing on us. Came down different route and hands were pretty much frozen to the brakes by the time we got back to the car.

    • @RCRGIRL
      @RCRGIRL  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Geoff R sounds really cold. I probably would’ve froze my arse off. Haha.
      I really like Dry Creek (even though it seems to elicit huge allergy attacks for me) lol.
      So far my favorites in Idaho are:
      Goose trail in McCall (it’s a winner)
      Double Shot at Jug Mountain
      Bob’s Trail in Boise
      Dry Creek
      And the techy trail at Eagle Bike Park (it’s next to Flow trail at the top there).
      Oh and East Leg or East side that you take to Sweet Connie. 🤘🏼
      To name a few haha

    I remember this ride! It was one of my first rides back from the broken collarbone. Well, the broken collarbone before this last broken collarbone 🥺. Should be back riding soon and hope to hit this before it starts snowing up there.

    • @RCRGIRL
      @RCRGIRL  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You've had some bad luck with that dang collarbone. Need to get healed up, winter is coming which means PHX is about to be the SPOT, haha. I know, I'm with you...I'd like to get in at least one more Flag ride before snow hits! Let me know if you guys plan something.

    This is awesome, could I get by riding a hardtail on this trail, I only have a Trek Marlin 6, Im to poor to afford a full suspension at the moment?

    • @RCRGIRL
      @RCRGIRL  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think someone could ride a hard tail down this. The limiting factor would be skill level. Sunset can be a bit techy at the top (I walked a couple sections).

    How much of a slog was it going up Elden Rd. to the towers? I mentioned this ride to my buddy and that climb discouraged him.

    • @RCRGIRL
      @RCRGIRL  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It wasn't the worst climb I've done, in fact, considering what you get for it...it's more than worth it. The bonus is that is part road and then dirt road. The climb itself is sort of spread out and not just one huge long sucker, which I like. We did it as a big group and it went by fairly fast. I'm not going to lie though, it's a climb up. Think it took us about 30-45 minutes but we went at a nice steady pace. The best part is you can go as slow as you like, hell, even walk portions. The payoff is getting to hit trails like sunset and then finishing off with say....Shultz (I didn't know that when we did it, I was so stoked that we got to do it too!) I believe there are also some singletrack options you can cut up on but just be weary that people might be hauling ass down. The road is the way to go...Hope that helps. Tell him to suck it up buttercup ;) Just say it'll be a good warm-up...and you'll go slow and just BS on the way up!

    We were in Flagstaff just a couple days ago - also did a big ride. We started down at the Elden trailhead, looped around the mountain, up Elden road then Sunset but we came down Little Bear (rocky, narrow and plenty of exposure ) then AZT to finish. Was a tough ride for us flatlanders but amazing.

      So glad you guys got to experience some of the Flagstaff Trails, they truly are awesome and the views can be pretty sweet too! I'll have to give that Little Bear one a go, next time I'm out that way. What other places did you guys get to ride on your trip?

      You sure did rally though! Alt. sickness sucks and then you add climbs like that and its not awesome but you did it. See ya on the next ride!
