The cross brace behind the dash is bolted through the sides of the dash and is bolted to the sides of the body. So it helps attach the dash/hood to the main body and supports the steering column.
@@MattLundquistVW Went back and looked at you cross brace again. I thought the small slotted holes were where you would use a U bolt to clamp down on the steering column. So the fiberglass is the only thing keeping the steering column in place?
@@terryfleming7084 there is a bracket that mounts to the bulkhead and attaches to the steering column. Then under the dash on that cross brace is a flange ( the two slots you seen) that mounts to a rubber donut and another flange that grip the column. So it is supported at the top and bottom of the column and mounted to the fiberglass body.

My El Lobo has 2 support brackets one on the hood and the other one is on the buggy fire wall.
