I've got a joint hyper mobility disorder and I find that whenever I drive my neck and shoulders tend to be more prone to shifting or dislocating, but when I'm in the passenger seat, I don't have as much of an issue as long as I properly support my spine with a pillow :)
Yes. I have experienced soreness whilst driving but it depends on the design of the seat, head rest and sometimes the vehicle's angle of the steering wheel.
Yes, my neck is a mess after being in multiple accidents (no EDS), and driving does hurt it. Something about the position of the shoulders/arms and the way you hold your head to see, the muscle tension, it just aggravates things.
Hi! My Aunt uses a Bard Barrier wipe around my cousins button. She said it’s almost like putting a liquid bandage on in. She mentioned asking you chemist for the best barrier cream. Hope you’re well!
Calmoseptine oinment its pink and is a moisure barrier cream. It may be prescription. I used these on clients that were bedridden to protect their skin from breakdown. It helps the skin heal underneath by providing a barrier. Good luck
A barrier cream that contains Zinc hopefully would help you-zinc is awesome for preventing further burn/skin breakdown. sudocrem is available in Australia, and makes a massive difference to me with my stoma aside when things are difficult
Either calmoseptine cream or ask your doctor for a script for silvadene cream. It’s for burns and pressure sores. It also has an antibiotic in it to help prevent infection. Also that injection is called scopolamine in the USA :)
I love watching your videos it reminds me to be grateful for what I have and my health even though I have my challenges you always keep yourself up which is good
I use the liquid med that people take when they have acid reflux, I don't know what it's called gaviscon maybe? Since it's made to neutralize stomach acid it works pretty well for me
So about your anemic question from yesterday, I had an ablation for severe anemia in December, I’m a nurse and I was back at work after 3 days. Only problem is that this takes away your ability to have kids. I am 42 and have teenagers so it was not a problem for me. I have heard that the merena that you mentioned is painful, I also was found to have polyps in my endometrium so I had to have surgery anyway. But this was causing all my bleeding. My iron was 4.4. I had an ultrasound that only showed one but actually had 2, one was so large they couldn’t see around it. These were removed and the ablation was done. I have not had a period since, one day of a very light bleed and that’s it.
I've been recently unofficially diagnosed with EDS (still waiting for genetic testing), and I get SO much neck pain when I drive, which is the only time I ever seem to have neck issues. And when I drive on long road trips my neck and where it connects to my shoulders gets really swollen.
You are my favorite TH-camr. I never get bored with you vlogs! Thank you so much for sharing your daily journeys and showing the public that just because you have a chronic illness that doesn't mean you can't live a productive, happy life. My sister has chronic illness and she unfortunately is mostly bed bound at the moment, but I showed her you channel and she loves watching your videos to cheer her up! ...Also a random question, what does Tom work as? I'm just curious :D xoxo
hey girl! i’ve used both calmoseptine ointment (it’s a form of barrier cream) as well as triamcinolone acetonide cream .5% for my granulation tissue! i’m sure any barrier cream would do the trick though! the second one i mentioned i had prescription for and found it didn’t burn like traditional silver nitrate does! hope this was helpful!
I agree with KarnaShaw. I use the calmoseptine cream. I wasn’t sure if it would help my tube stoma area, it had been burning and itching because I was actually cleaning it too much lol. It worked wonders for soothing the area and it healed up nicely. I got it off of Amazon. 👍
Maybe some cream or paste that ostomy patients use to treat and prevent skin issues from leaks? And yes, I get neck issues from being in a car regardless of driving or being passenger, so I wear my Aspen Vista at all times when I’m upright for more than just showering or eating. I suspect CCI though so it doesn’t take much at all to set off my neck issues...
Hi put honey on any burns. It helps with the stinging aswell. My neice got a bad burn from soup it fell off her spoon and burned her little chest went threw her clothes and our neighbor said you have any pure honey on you and luckily we did it helped so much.He said any kind of burns you put it on. Hope that helps. I know it sounds crazy but just try it and all natural honey.
I have chronic pain and fibromyalgia my neck always stiffens up while driving in a flare up I use lidocaine patches and heat. Fan blades you can take a pillow cover/case put blade in and pull out gets all the dust and fuzzies off and they fall in the cover/case can empty outside and wash cover works great! Tell Tom good man and why no TTMYGH?!
I don’t have eds but do have hypermobility syndrome also known as hypermobility spectrum disorder and driving makes my neck hurt so badly. When I’m a passenger I was prescribed an aspen collar to wear but obviously cannot wear it when I drive.
Yes! My neck goes mental. Have a look at your headrest in your car. I find when I have my hair in a bun or a high pony tail it hits my headrest so I try and sit forward which makes my neck worse 😩😩 maybe use a spiky ball or foam roller on your trap muscles to help. 💕
I am in physical therapy school right now and just went over the neck area. You might be having problems with weak neck flexors or extensors. If you currently see a PT you might ask them for exercises or I can send you some! It's a pretty common issue but sorry you are having extra annoying pain!
I don't have your health issues but it happens to me because a lot of time I carry a lot of stress in my neck and shoulders. Driving is stressful to me. You might try relaxing your arms and shoulders when you drive.
As someone who deals with severe chronic pain every day (mainly in my abdomen), I’m wondering what your pain medicine regimen is like? I’m having such a hard time finding pain medication that works for me and I’m trying to find other suggestions or ideas that I can bring up to my doctor, that might help me deal with this.
I don’t have EDS but my neck and top of my back get so bad driving too and from work every week day and my drive is 40 minutes each way 😩 I can’t even imagine how sore yours must get... Hope your hip is doing better today!
Amy I have Ankylosing Spondylitis which is now affecting my thoracic and base of my neck and yes it hurts when I’ve been driving. Often I will get hubby to drive rather than me.
Hello Amy, sorry about what happened to you. I'm from the US and I love your channel. Normally many ppl use Calmoseptine cream which is good but to all our tube patients we used a Medicated Oitment call "Triple Paste", is originally for diaper rashes, but it works wonder since the thick cream protects the skin. Normally everyday we would clean the area, add the cream/paste all around the the tube area and put a small then a small gauze in between the tube. This would work as a daily protection of the skin from the acid burn just like is put in babies for diaper rash prevention.. Hope this helped..:)
I am not diagnosed with EDS but suspect that I have it and I'm not sure I will get a diagnosis. I do have issues with my neck and shoulders when driving because I tense my muscles so much, I was told by an OT that I have very weak hands and grip so when I do certain things like drive or write I tense all my arms and shoulders to compensate and this goes into my neck too. I suspect you will have something similar but probably worse because of your EDS being so 'pronounced'.
Sorry long comment. If I driving for a while usually after and hour my shoulders start to really ache and then hurt and the muscle that runs up to your neck. My mum lives about 3.5 hours away so I have to stop a lot because of it. I have fibromyalgia and I never use to get painful shoulders from driving but last 2 years probably it's got worse.
Have you ever tried Granulotion instead of silver nitrate? I heard it doesnt burn! I've never used it with my tubie, but I've heard good things about it!
The moisture barrier cream you have, i think it's by coloplast should work you just need to keep applying it. Also they make all kinds of cream if coloplast is the only brand you can get where you are maybe look into the different kinds, one that is petroleum based will probably last longer. I work in a nursing facility (Really, really hazardous to my health since I have an autoimmune disease.. but hey, gotta make that money) I know my facility uses that a lot for incontinence, and there are several different kinds. Some have menthol to give a cooling sensation, some have honey for skin healing.. etc.. On another note, I totally know all about the self injection - I hated it! The medication I took was for immune suppression and it left nasty welts, got hot & burnt.. so glad to be off that medicine.
Grace Babbitts I’ve been to Harry Potter World at Universal Studios! It was awesome. You can walk through diagon alley, up to the castle, they have all the different shops and the bank, etc.
I get the neck pain and muscle spasms from driving.mine particularly is because of my fibromyalgia.and bone disease..blah😝..I try to only go out if absolutely necessary...even as a passenger in the car...🤦 Still happens every time...
My sister has eds type 3 the last time her shoulder popped out she tore her muscle please get it checked out you seem to be walking on your leg okayish just don't want it do cause loads of problems ♥️
Triple Antibiotic Polysporn. It's amazing! 💜💜💜 Oh, and I deal with severe chronic pain which includes fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis...and yes, I do get a very sore neck from driving. It's crazy!
Amy, do you take anything for anxiety? The asthma and near passing out seems like anxiety symptoms, triggered by very loud noise. Noise is a major anxiety trigger for me, sound like it might be for you too... When you inject, make sure to put a little pressure on the area immediately after removing the needle, otherwise some of the liquid leaks out of the site.
also when doing an injection into ur muscle you need to draw back on the syringe plunger to make sure there is no blood, blood indicates the needle is in a blood vessel and not ur muscle. Injecting something into ur blood stream that is meant for the muscle could be crucial.
Hey Amy, maybe Some Gaviscon on the outside? Or else i use for my butt Burns (i have a ileostomy ) Some preparation H or theranal, its kind of a soft Cream that makes the Burns less!
Watching you do your injections so slowly make me cringe. I know when I was doing my medical assisting courses for shots they said to sort of pinch the skin and do a quick injection so it is more painless. I’m sorry it is so painful for you and I can only imagine how hard it is to stick yourself with a needle as much as you have to for your injections/ blood sugar testing etc. You’re always so strong and brave through your different treatments and I truly admire you for that!!!
