    As an aussie I can definitely confirm that the pav is from NZ, but then most Aussies claim lots of NZ things as our own (there's even an ad on tv atm about us trying to claim their Prime Minister lol)

    The egg whites looked like they were over beaten and then what you showed of the adding of the sugar doesn’t seem right as normally you add it in small amounts while beating the egg whites so the sugar dissolves. However the great thing about a pav is once it is all decorated up they look incredible and the combination just taste awesome. I hope you have Dunedin on your itinerary.

    Ah, Pavlova. As a child my mom would make them multiple times every summer with local strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. My favorite dessert ever. Another great vlog!

      Thanks! Love the mixed berry topping idea - definitely gonna try that next time 🍓

  • @JTMcAwesomeFace
    @JTMcAwesomeFace 6 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    I would have added the sugar in small increments as you're beating the egg whites. This allows the sugar to fully dissolve, making a more silky texture as well as giving the meringue more structure. I think the baking temperature was off because it was too dark on the outside, but was still oozing at the sides (sign of under-baking). I'm certain it tasted amazing regardless so 10/10 :)
    Camper van roadtrip HYPE!

    • @Theendlessadventure
      @Theendlessadventure  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We'll definitely make it again and will try mixing the sugar in more gradually. Thanks for the tip 👌We can't wait for the campervan roadtrip to start!! Should be out in the next day or two 🎉🚐

      @aussiefarmer6012 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      JT agree with your explanation. Aussies don't make pavs like that. We use the mixer for the whole thing. We believe the oozing is the sugar not disolved into the egg whites. The eggs were beaten way too much if using the mixer to mix the sugar in in small quantities. The eggs just have to be foaming, then add the sugar, TSP at a time. My wife is a pro baker. Happy baking.

    Glad you are getting to enjoy our hot summer guys...btw, the nets over the blueberries are to protect them from the birds, if you decide to go strawberry picking it is something to watch out for, if there are no nets it means they spray it with anti-bird spray which while ok, is not the best. Great video!

    There are slightly different techniques on baking a pavlova depending if you want a soft pav or a pav with crunchy sides. I always mix my caster sugar and vanilla in slowly while mixing - you get a 7/10 from me. Passion fruit pulp on the top with Kiwi fruit and fresh berries and beaten cream - yum

    Hwy guys welcome to New Zealand. Other desert I recommend you try is steamed pudding with custard. That is another kiwi favourite.
    I just finished watching the video of you guys in Auckland where you tried hangi. To me it didn't look the greatest so I highly recommend when heading south from the bay of islands stop in at a place called Kiwi Kai in Whangarei. They have amazing hangi, boil up, lamb shanks, seafood chowder, creamed paua, raw fish, mussel fritters and of course fry bread. It is a must stop place when we're passing through. Have fun, stay safe and enjoy your holiday.

    My nana and Mum used to add the sugar gradually in the mixer. You know it’s done when the batter is white and glossy. Also we used to have the oven at 160degC for about 45mins. Then leave turn the oven off. The higher temp will avoid the runny sugar you had. But that’s still delicious.

      and, always ensure that your egg's are at full room temperature. If you live in a cold house, make sure the eggs are around 20C or 68F or just over....... otherwise the project will be a fail. It is usually not in the recipe as we are all expected to know this!!!
      And yes to your comment..... beat 'til it is glossy and holds a peak when you take the whisk or a spoon out.
      But their Pavlova did seem to turn out very well.

Nice going.
