Jean-Baptiste Barrière 2 May 1707 - 6 June 1747 initially studied viola da gamba and then switched to cello as cello gained in popularity in France. He also studied in Italy with Franciscello. His music is sonorous, heart felt and often quite virtuosic. He composed several books of cello sonatas, and a book of harpsichord music.
