    In Norway we say "Hei" = "Hi", "Hallo" = "Hello", and "Halla" as a slang for "Hallo".
    As for other greetings,
    we have "God dag" = "Good day", "God ettermiddag" = "Good afternoon", "God kveld" = "Good evening".
    Other polite sayings include, but are not limited to:
    "Velkommen" = "Welcome".
    "Vel møtt" = "Well met".
    "Ha det bra" = "Goodbye".
    "Ha en fin dag" = "Have a nice day".
    "Frøken" = "Miss".
    "Fru" = "Mrs".
    "Herr" = "Mr".
    "Takk" = "Thank you".
    "Tusen takk!" = "Thank you very much!". (Tusen literally means thousand.)
    Another thing of note when it comes to Norwegian is that we say "Takk" very often;
    for example, we say "Takk for maten" which translates into "Thanks for the food",
    which is commonly said after you've done eating whenever someone has given you food,
    almost no matter the context,
    at home, at your relatives, at social gatherings etc.,
    it's a daily phrase in Norway.

    Whoa, that's fascinating about the ear wax/body odor correlation. I have very little body odor, and what little material my ears produce is dry, white, and flaky, basically like dry skin. (As far as I know, though, I have zero Asian ancestry, just for the record.) I looked it up too and the genetic reason behind it is even more interesting. You really never know what you'll learn here!

    • @SchneiderStudios
      @SchneiderStudios 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get both types of ear wax and still smell, you know, like all human beings when they sweat.

    • @ReiKoko
      @ReiKoko 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      theoriginaledi yep, it's down to genes. i'm 100% chinese and i and my mum both have the dry earwax and although i do sweat, i don't have BO. on the other hand, my other siblings and my dad all have wet earwax and one of my brothers DO smell. i don't think BO is that common among asians, but some do.

    • @theoriginaledi
      @theoriginaledi 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ReiKoko This is all so fascinating to me. Everyone in my family (both parents and three brothers) has wet ear wax and smelly sweat. I never smell bad and never have much of anything in my ears, and they've always thought I was just weird. I guess the truth is I hit the genetic jackpot! (PS I also never dreamed I'd be telling strangers online about my sweat and ear wax, but there you go. :D )

    Do other people notice animals, especially the domestic ones, saying "hi" with their heads the way Peter their local area do?
    In northern California, we either nod a tiny nod first up, then back to the original head position, to greet a fierce, dangerous or rough looking/appearing person. Or, for a more kind & welcoming greeting, we do a tiny nod first down, then back to regular head position, often with a smile.
    I have seen dogs, cats & horses do it. Especially in response to me.

    In Russia greetings are kinda complicated.
    To elders, strangers, teachers etc. you say zdrastvuite.
    To your co-workers or just somebody you know you say zdrastvuy.
    To your family and friends you simply say pri-vet.
    But we don't have a lot of greets like what's up or how you doing, it all sums up pretty much to "kak dela" which means how's it going or "chevo novovo" which means what's new

    I'm an OG American lol, Cayuga Tribe which is Iroquois. So my family has always said "Sago (Say-goh)" but found out later that was the Seneca way of saying "Hello" but since Cayuga people lost all their land moved in with other tribes of the 6 Nations our languages and traditions (which are already very similar) kinda intermingled and it's Sencas closest to me and with having some Seneca family I see how my family went our whole lives think "Sago" was also Cayuga "Hello" lol True way to say it in my language is "Sgeno" when you pronounce the "g" you put a sorta "K" sound before it like the K and G sorta melt into each other S-kg-N-oh. Willing to bet no one had Cayuga "Hello" in this comment thread lol Also my S/N means "Thank you" you gotta melt the "N" into the "y" so Ny-ah-way don't drag the y at the end sorta barely pronounce that "y" and it's kinda like you don't let the "y" leave your throat just an abrupt stop on that "Y" almost as if it got stuck in your throat, simulates a hiccup.

    In French, we say "Hé-ho!"... Though French is a very multi-cultural, err, "culture", so there are many other words used that have been borrowed from other languages. Therefor, we also use "Hey" and "Yo".
    Also, French isn't a simplified language, so it really depends on the context.
    If you want to salute someone, you say "Salut". If you are welcoming them, you say: "Bonjour". If you want them to pay attention to you or something you're about to say, you say : "Hé-ho!" or "Hé-là" (that second is "spatial", like when someone bumps into you or if they are about to drop something). If you want them to stop, you say "Ho-là". If you want them to snap out of it, you say "Allô!" (which is the same term you use, when answering the phone). French is a language that is so "Magnifique"!
