Ronnie Brown's tribute to his friend and partner is so touching and oozes total class and respect. For those who never saw them live, it is an era past. There will never be the likes again.
It’s 2020 and I still feel as strongly today as I did when I first learned of Roy Williamson’s passing that he was taken too young and has left a hole in Scottish traditional music that nobody will ever fill.
I'm only an Englishman, I've listened to the Corrie's for many years. From the first time I heard them my life was enriched. I discovered a whole world of Scottish music. They are so talented so real to their art and belief. Long live Scotland, Corrie's endure forever, despite this very sad time. Heartfelt thanks to you both.
You are not “only” an Englishman. You are a gentleman and an appreciator of fine music. Whether the Scots and the English part ways politically or not, we will always be neighbours, and it is in our best interests to be good neighbours. If more people wid “tak a cup o’ kindness” like you have the world would be a far better place. Slàinte
John, you are a lovely Englishman, thank you for your decency, the world is better for the decency of lovely English people like you. The English people are Scotland's best friends. 💙♥
They covered so much, serious and the fun side, they could make you cry with laughter and next with remembrance. The Corries, just a wee bit of Scotland.
This star in heaven will never die. He did not scratch an old head, but for a man like Roy his mortal body passed away, but his memory will live forever more in the hearts of his admirers. From this old codger nearing the end of his span of life. I THANK you ROY for being you.
Loved you to guys when I was growing up with my nana Patrick visiting her house always playing Scottish music I'm 70 now but will always play your music God Bless there is nothing on TV now to supas it now God Bless and thank you for our old Scottish Music 😢😊❤
Perfect duo! Neither Roy nor Ronnie would have had such an impact without the other. We're all so grateful for their friendship and collaboration. And their passion for their music and cause.
In my opinion a most gifted man who with Ronnie formed the Corries and together gave joy to so many people. Thank goodness that their partnership will live on forever on CD and video. RIP Roy.
Ronnie says he will continue alone. This isn't strictly true, because not only will Roy be by your side for ever, you also carry the best wishes and affection from millions who have been heartened by your music.
love the music, met Ronnie a few years back at a birthday party, he sang flower of Scotland, what can i say one of the most pleasurable moments of my life :)
His death was so... so sad... I'm just a yankee with a love for Scottish music and I sing the tunes of the Corries all day while I'm outside working. I want to keep their music alive too.
I play in a corries tribute band called whiterose, roy and ronnie were the best bar none. I love their songs and when you hear others singing the same songs it's just not the same. Rest In peace Roy, we carry on singing your songs and your spirit is with us everywhere we go, you gave me the inspiration and made me proud as hell to be a scot. Alba gu brath!!!!
Strange journey, looking for a tune I like, exploring TH-cam and finding something totally unexpected. God, how have I not known of The Corries before now? I have just spent the last couple of hours listening to tune after amazing tune. Love it!
It's funny how the trail twists and turns when looking for something on TH-cam. I first found The Corries looking for "Scotland The Brave". I found it so funny and the music so good that I went on for more of the music that The Corries did from that point.
Singing with a friend like that. I understand why he cannot bring himself to anymore. Singing these folk songs without Roy brings back the memories. Makes me very sad on my own and for Ronnie.
What a thought. 18 years this August 12th. I remember when I heard the news; couldn't believe it. Was not a glorious 12th that year. Sad, sad loss and Ronnie's tribute was so touching from one dear friend about the other. Yes they did capture the movement in Scotland at the time but now it is even more poignant. I also hardly ever passs a day without a Corries tune.
These men are the reason i fell in love with my country, they are the reason i walked from jedburgh to the tip of scotland, and got a ferry to the orkneys, they are the reason scotland is my home. And i will vote yes in 2014, to give my home, my country, my love, a future.
Dear corries, I just discovered the Corries recently; love the "educated fingers." Sorry that anyone feels it necessary to make negative comments. Love Roy! Love Ronnie! Corries Rule!
I am proud to say that I am Scottish and I pass that pride on to my children who are now enjoying the music of the Roy and Ronnie. A new generation will grow up knowing of their heritage through the fine music of the Corries. I know that the Heavenly Band is more the sweeter because Roy has joined them. Many thanks.
I was lucky to see them perform live in Edinburgh in March 1974 -- we were living in Scotland that year for my dad's job -- anyway, I love all that Scottish folk music they sung. They are definitely a credit to Scotland. Beautiful tribute!!
The Corries was was one of only about half a dozen big live music acts I've seen in my life, and the most memorable. Sorry to think I'll never be able to hear Roy live again. Thanks for the music.
As one other has said I to have only recently been introduced to the music of the Corries and I love it and what makes it strange is I am English (dont lynch me) there music spoke to me the same as the Dubliners has same as Runrig does same as Tommy Makem Just wish I had found them sooner
beautifull...reminding me and my friend....when we started to learn guitars and singing, we were walking our little Czech city streets just like this :-)
Met the two of them back in 78 Motherwell civic theatre the were sat in the bar at half time Ronnie asked my fav song I said flower of Scotland the smile on Roy's face said it all Ronnie dissapeered and retured with a copy of the 7 inch single which the both signed
how is there 6 sphincters in the small place we call earth? The corries spoke of our heritage , our blood and belief in a place we call SCOTLAND. He will be missed, as a Scot, i miss the telling of our history in song, and my wife ( who is English ) misses that she should have been Scottish..
Assuming that you are referring tae dislikes its up to 17 now. Mind you they may not all be located in oor wee bit hill and glen and it's taken them 6 years to congregate.
I saw the Corries many times, years ago! They always were a class act, and Scottish to the core. Now that I live abroad, they are my anchor still, to my scottish musical heritage. This is the music I was brought up with!!!
I discovered them around your age too, all be it several years ago lol. they are timeless and always will be. I never had the honour of meeting them or seeing them in concert, if you ever get a chance to meet ronnie you should take it
doug sykes well you will never guess! I had the pleasure of meeting Ronnie back in September, we had a fantastic conversation with my granny papa and my dad, telling me stories about when they were neighbours! He is such a lovely man with many stories to tell, a very interesting and good hearted man
glad to hear that. great to hear there's another generation keeping them alive. we used to sing their songs in the minibus at the youth group I was in. knew them all by heart by the time I was 13 lol. then when I was older we went to pubs with live folk singing, something that is very hard to find these days in edinburgh unfortunately. singing with kevin tait in the candlemakers down the grassmarket. fond memories indeed. ronnie stays up morningside I believe. their live shows, even on recording, were always better than the studio recordings. terrific interaction with the audience, true "folk" singing, something the few "folk" pubs left have forgotten
doug sykes their songs are extremely popular in my pipe band, when we go to competitions on the coach we sing them all the way home! Just turns out that one of our new tunes we will be playing in our new MSR is haughs o' cromdale which I believe the corries sang! You would be surprised just how much their music is still alive in the pipe band world
Well I'm 16 years old, and I'm from Estonia and I love The Corries I have listen them music now 4 years and I'm glad to say that they are my favorite musicians. There's no other like The Corries.
I watched this the very night it was shown - a fitting tribute to a great musician (one of Scotland's finest) and a great tribute to the best Scottish folk group, ever...... Roy and Ronnie's legacy will hopefully roll on through the ages to come.......................

I've always had pride in my Scots heritage, you can really feel it in the pipes when your heart races as you hear them playing, but it wasn't until I heard "Flower of Scotland" on You Tube, sung by a crowd of fans at the games that I realized just how powerfully felt your anthem has become. I'm proud to be an American, but a part of being American is your pride in where your people came from.
Marvellous! I married a scot, lived there and went to school there, but I'm English. Ronnie as elequent and articulate as ever on such a sad occassion but the Corries will live on forever through their wonderful music and what a great achievement for Roy to write his country's national anthem, an anthem chosen by the people themselves. Heres tae ye, wha's like ye.

Thank you to the Corries . As a piper you play a lot of tunes. Without knowing the words. Now through listening to there music. I have discovered the richness of the music anew
