Also nordic countries are on average very subtle and not so flashy so our makeup usually reflects that, we go for more natural looks and natural makeup, Jeffree's makeup is more flashy and colourful (I love it) so the products aren't as sparkly or shiny, nor glittery as his usual products ^^
Most Nordic people are quite fair and most women here up north tend to favour a natural, understated makeup look, so Lumene for one caters to that taste.

I think that a lot of his concerns comes from a very American point of view cause American makeup is way more dramatic and full coverage than a lot of European makeup is. Coming from a Swede I would say that I see way more Americans have full faces of makeup than Swedish ones. Most of us are usually content with concealer and mascara most of the time
Hasn't been my experience as an American in Sweden- I can't believe how many women have on a full face of makeup and fake eyelashes just during daytime here, working at the grocery, etc. I never saw that back home in the US. Not saying it's bad or anything, just don't have the impression that minimal makeup is more common in Sweden than the US.

I have lived where most people are not fully swedish and come from all backgrounds and thats where I see full coverage glam looks. While when I lived in the more pure swedish parts of Stockholm most of the girls had really natural to no makeup on. It also depends on the social circles but I mostly see natural looks even when in the center or Stockholm while out with friends.
It doesn’t matter where you are in the world (except where some cultures won’t allow it) some women will wear a full face and some women will wear none at all 🤷🏼♀️ literally makes no difference. I wear a full face pretty much every day whereas my sister will very rarely wear make up and only the minimum when she does.

Lumene is a finnish makeup brand that preferes a "natural" skandinavian and minimalistic style, soooo trying to do a full cover, full face is next to impossible.
In case y'all want to know, Lumene is more of a drugstore brand but is still pricey compared to other drugstore brands. Sensai is a high end brand, you know the type you only see in the airport and the high end makeup stores. I'd also like to mention that 38 degree mascara means that it will wash off at 38 degree water! It's a nice mascara if you have sensitive eyes Feel free to ask more stuff! I'd love to help
Lumene is on par with brands like Rimmel, Loreal etc regarding price point the foundation is just over £9 (well, in the UK when you can get it, not sure in the US or other countries tho) x

Finnish people have always appreciated natural looks because of the nature around them, and America has over the year inspired some of the more glam looks you may see today. However, Lumene is very much natural and sheer, glory etc.
I don't think Lumene is for old people. I am 27-year-old and I used Lumene (until I started to use mostly natural cosmetics couple years ago) for my whole life. And lot of my friends use it too. I've never seen it as a "mum" make-up brand. And it's pretty weird to talk about it as a "old people's brand" because all the moms I know use a lot more expensive brands. I think Lumene is just better for people who like that "natural make-up look".
Keklol The quality isn't bad. Every eyeshadow isn't meant to have a shit load of pigment. Lumene is very settle and sheer brand and everything they make are usually for really natural and almost invisible makeup. That is why the word "invisible" was on the blush palet. Eyeshadows are meant to be not that pigmented so the natural makeup look is more easier to do when you don't have to watch out the strong pigment.
Honestly I'm not surprised you didn't like all Lumene products you tried. Lumene has this image of being very neutral, natural beauty etc, so lots of their products are supposed to not be too "extra" if you will. Personally I only use the matte foundation, it's my go to because it's the only one with good formula and a shade that's light enough for my pale face, I love it! Other than that I'd only go for Lumene's skin care so maybe you could try more of that in the future :)

So glad you tried out Finnish make up. I'm from Finland and I've used Lumene in my teenager years. The eyeshadows have too little pigment which is annoying but I still love the skin care.
Lumene is one of my favourite brands for base products, their CC cream is hands down the BEST foundation I have ever tried. It's more of a medium coverage and doesn't set 100% matte, but that's perfect for Nordic winter weather.

Lumene is a brand that's been around for ages in Finland and everyone's mum and their grandma have used this brand for decades. They rebranded their entire line lately but the brand definitely is still a very Nordic chic with natural beauty and relatively sheer quality. If you want to shine to the moon, this is not your brand for sure.

I think it’s funny because In America everyone loves how red I get naturally on my cheeks. Some coworkers of mine have told me I have bomb blush but it’s a small amount of product and the rest is my skin.
This gives a very scarce coverage on how Finns do their make up. Lumene is a product you go to for a singular product or skin care, but I don’t believe I know anybody who’s make up bag mostly consists of their products. Also the fair, ”nordic style” look is not exactly on spot - Finns like colors and aren’t shy to apply heavily, but that’s why mostly everybody buys American (or at least foreign). Lumene probably is our only local beauty brand actually, at least what comes to mind. Guess it’s the branding that makes it interesting, also for foreigners. Thanks for testing those out, next time you get a chance try out their serums and see what you think! ✨

Just FYI - Natural beauty (sheer, easy, natural glow, hustle free, no makeup makeup) is kinda the thing here in the Nordics :) But full makeup glam has definitely entered the Nordics and more and more (specially younger gens) are more used to it nowadays.

Us Finns are usually pasty as heck, so why is it so hard to find pale enough shades here? You'd think that Lumene would have lighter foundations and concealers, since it is a Finnish brand.

The local brands (lumene in particular) assume all people here are pale and afraid of color, which is a problem for us few brave ones who prefer to actually put some colors on our faces. Most Finns tend to wear quite low key, light, and "barely there" make up so it can be difficult for the rest of us to find more colourful and interesting make up products. You can definitely see the make up trends in each country by going through make up sections in shopping centers :D

Tsururun 328 I actually have a very fair skin, too, but I'm not the combination of light skin & blue eyes that lumene favours, and their eyeshadows all seem to be intended for that generic Nordic look. When I used the word pale earlier, I wasn't thinking about myself, but those people who have deeper skin tones and also live in Finland. I can imagine that trying to buy a darker shade foundation in this country can be painful. I think lumene could try to be more inclusive, not all Nordic people are the same, not in the 21st century.

As a Finnish girl, I have really long history with Lumene products as Lumene was pretty long the only brand that made light enough foundation (and there's still not that much variety tbh...). Lumene tries to be quality brand just by hiking their prices up, but the quality has pretty much stayed the same since 90's. They also did this big brand image revamping thingy last year and basically just added 5-10€ more to prices when products stayed the same...

Lumene tries so hard to be some kinda quality brand with its 'pure, natural' ingredients plucked straight from the wild forestlands of the North and with its over-simplified designs, but the truth of it is that it's over-priced and the quality really is quite mediocre at its best. I've been avoiding Lumene for years now, used their products for some time in high-school. But last summer i suddenly went and bought their CC cream(i probably lost my sense for a minute there), figuring that maybe it really has improved and this will be a pleasant surprise. The Lumene's sales representative kept reassuring me that it was light, smooth and just the thing i was looking for to use through the summer. Yeah... I tried it once and haven't tried it since, it was thick and smelly and everything it was not supposed to be. Well done, Lumene.That sure was worth the 20e...

I'm not a huge fan of Korean makeup (not pigmented enough for my personal style) but Korean skincare is honestly amazing, its probably some of the best stuff i have ever used.
Aino do u mean above? Because 38 is really quite hot(about 90’s in Fahrenheit). Above would make sense considering you would be sweater and it would be more humid.
Sydney Lee It means you can wash it off with warmer water than 38C but it is waterproof in degrees under that, so it won’t come off when sweating, swimming, crying, etc. I have their 38C separating&lengthening mascara and it is the bomb! 😊

Lumene is a brand that's been around for ages in Finland and everyone's mum and their grandma have used this brand for decades. They rebranded their entire line lately but the brand definitely is still a very Nordic chic with natural beauty and relatively sheer quality. If you want to shine to the moon, this is not your brand for sure.

This gives a very scarce coverage on how Finns do their make up. Lumene is a product you go to for a singular product or skin care, but I don’t believe I know anybody who’s make up bag mostly consists of their products. Also the fair, ”nordic style” look is not exactly on spot - Finns like colors and aren’t shy to apply heavily, but that’s why mostly everybody buys American (or at least foreign). Lumene probably is our only local beauty brand actually, at least what comes to mind. Guess it’s the branding that makes it interesting, also for foreigners.

Just FYI - Natural beauty (sheer, easy, natural glow, hustle free, no makeup makeup) is kinda the thing here in the Nordics :) But full makeup glam has definitely entered the Nordics and more and more (specially younger gens) are more used to it nowadays.

You ended looking up like a generic made up person here in Finland :D. The local brands (lumene in particular) assume all people here are pale and afraid of color, which is a problem for us few brave ones who prefer to actually put some colors on our faces. Thanks for reviewing these products, though :)

Leena That's definitely true. Most Finns tend to wear quite low key, light, and "barely there" make up so it can be difficult for the rest of us to find more colourful and interesting make up products. You can definitely see the make up trends in each country by going through make up sections in shopping centers :D

Tsururun 328 I actually have a very fair skin, too, but I'm not the combination of light skin & blue eyes that lumene favours, and their eyeshadows all seem to be intended for that generic Nordic look. When I used the word pale earlier, I wasn't thinking about myself, but those people who have deeper skin tones and also live in Finland. I can imagine that trying to buy a darker shade foundation in this country can be painful. I think lumene could try to be more inclusive, not all Nordic people are the same, not in the 21st century.

As a Finnish girl, I have really long history with Lumene products as Lumene was pretty long the only brand that made light enough foundation (and there's still not that much variety tbh...). Lumene tries to be quality brand just by hiking their prices up, but the quality has pretty much stayed the same since 90's. They also did this big brand image revamping thingy last year and basically just added 5-10€ more to prices when products stayed the same...
Yeah, you said it, girrrll. I'm a finnish girl too, and Lumene just doesnt work for me. Lumene tries so hard to be some kinda quality brand with its 'pure, natural' ingredients plucked straight from the wild forestlands of the North and with its over-simplified designs, but the truth of it is that it's over-priced and the quality really is quite mediocre at its best. I've been avoiding Lumene for years now, used their products for some time in high-school. But last summer i suddenly went and bought their CC cream(i probably lost my sense for a minute there), figuring that maybe it really has improved and this will be a pleasant surprise. The Lumene's sales representative kept reassuring me that it was light, smooth and just the thing i was looking for to use through the summer. Yeah... I tried it once and haven't tried it since, it was thick and smelly and everything it was not supposed to be. Well done, Lumene.That sure was worth the 20e...

Aino do u mean above? Because 38 is really quite hot(about 90’s in Fahrenheit). Above would make sense considering you would be sweater and it would be more humid.

Sydney Lee It means you can wash it off with warmer water than 38C but it is waterproof in degrees under that, so it won’t come off when sweating, swimming, crying, etc. I have their 38C separating&lengthening mascara and it is the bomb! 😊

Lumene is made for Finnish people and not that many people here are that into intense makeup. That’s why some of the makeup is not that intense.
