Its funny. I see different FALR percentage recommendations everywhere I look. Some say 75%. Some 100% (which doesn’t seem correct to me but I’m not an engineer by ANY means). 50% seems like a great place to start. I like having significant tongue weight and my rig riding 1/2 to 1 inch low in the front. This ensures adequate tongue weight and still keeps the trailer load balanced on the axles. It’s a very small adjustment and really can’t be seen unless one measures. It’s been a sweet spot for me.
I'm going to hold off making a decision on a hitch until I see your thoughts between the B&W ant the Weigh Safe. The ability to backup and sway control are most important to me. Ease of setup is also high on my list. I'm looking forward to your next video. 👍
@@WanderingWeekends Well, after a little more research I discovered the B&W Continum system will not work on my trailer because my trailer has a center frame (two fram members on each side in an A-shape, and a third frame down the middle). This sucks.
Yeah it does. I’m leaning towards the Weigh Safe but my trailer weight is right at about 8,500 lbs fully loaded so I will talk to the tech guys at WS is determine which setup to go with.
I would like to see more on this hitch. I have a Curt weight distribution hitch that came with my GD Momentum 30G that I am looking to upgrade. I have tried adjusting to remove some of the sag that I get with NY Duramax 2500 with no luck. This appears to be a good option.
You have a lot of pins to check each time you start traveling. I could see kids playing around and removing some of those pins. You may feel you want to put locking pins on some if not all of them. Good luck.
I think you have the best hitch. I have watched a couple videos and one with a rep and when ask about sway control his answer was WDH control sway by getting weight back to the front axles. So basically admitting it doesn’t really have sway control.
My first instinct on this hitch is that it may not work well on lower trailers, such as enclosed cargo trailers like a lot of truck camper owners tow behind their rig, like I do. Most cargo trailers only have a hitch height of about 18-20". Lower trailers would cause this hitch to be too close to the ground.
Nice looking hitch. I like the weight distribution system a lot. Neat innovation! But it seems to me the sway control still relies on friction between the trailer receiver and the hitch ball. So its a sway reducer as opposed to a sway preventer like the Propride system. Anyway, a really nice video and I'll look forward to your full review.
If sway is reduced enough it’s never an issue… PP has made a killing scaring everyone into thinking 100% of sway MUST be eliminated. I never felt safer with the ProPride vs the 2 Weigh Safe products.
I’ve had some interest in this hitch, but B&W’s website isn’t very good about providing information on it. Wish they had a 3” shank. Really looking forward to your full review.
The hitch seems like there would be a lot of torque and pressure at the coupler since the bars are so short. I would also consider adding a safety chain around each cylinder support pin bracket to mitigate cylinder failure while towing.
I like it a lot. That pressure relief valve though is easily accessible. Any joker passing by can open it up. So I guess one would add "check the pressure gauge" to the list of "things to check" before getting into the truck after any pit stop.
Cool operating hitch. Not sure if I care for the complexity of the hydraulic operation or, should the pump lose compression while in tow, that you would lose all the weight distribution and sway control. That could easily put someone in a dangerous situation.
@@WanderingWeekends I run the Equal-i-zer setup very happy with it simple with little that can fail mechanically it has load leveling and sway control bought it for $750 with the purchase of our 2022 GD Imagine XLS 17 MKE however very interested in hearing your in service reviews of this B&W system.
I’m very excited about this hitch. I just bought a ProPride and love the tow but hate the complexity of hitching and unhitching. Very interested to know how you feel this compares to the ProPride. I want something my wife feels comfortable using if she had to and it seems like this is very easy for someone who is not experienced with towing to use.
Once you get used to how to set your WD bars on the ProPride it’s gets to be super easy to hook up. Far easier than more normal hitches where you have to remove and reinstall the bars every time. My wife feels the same way and it’s one of the things we live about the hitch.
Hoping you do this review soon as I am on the fence between the B&W and the WeighSafe as my first and Hopely only WDH. I have yet to see any reviews of the B&W on the internet.
So two questions: 1. Since it is beefy, how much extra tongue weight does it add, because that does need to be factored into payload calculations? 2. So far, is it a quiet hitch or does it have the typical groans and pops?
1. Only the scale can really tell you where your payload stands. Keep in mind the hitch moves weight to the trailer as well. How much weight? You’d need a scale to know exactly. That could be a great vid. 2. Based on its design I expect this hitch to be completely silent.
Great installation video ! I’ve seen this and the test review video. I wanted to ask what the tag is flapping in the wind on the safety chain.? I saw something in the rear camera video on your test drive flapping I thought a chunk of safety chain was striking the ground but must be the tag I see in this video. I have had an equalizer for 5 years on my camper and it’s brutal to mount and hook up and very noisy when not lubed properly. Also at 25” inches is that ball hight the max ? It looked as though you brought it up to the last hole and it maxed out. Lastly will you be keeping this system on permanently or moving on to #11 in the near future ? Thanks really enjoyed your videos appreciate you posting.
very intriged by this hitch! i do like my "o.g" EQ4 but my bed cargo often changes and then my hitch isn't setup correctly anymore. this one has my eye for sure...
I run the anderson.. it sucked hooking and unhooking when I had auto leveling.. it also isn't great at putting the weight back on the front tires when running heavy TT's like my jayco 284bhok. Last even after they updated the design the brake cone material doesn't last long on heavy TT's owned it 3 years and replaced it already. It is light but it's not a great hitch design unless your running lighter trailers.
@@dodgefreak8797 thanks for the feedback, I haven’t had those issues yet myself. Although, I don’t really need the weight distribution, towing An 8k trailer with a 1 ton truck. It barely notices the tongue weight.
@@WanderingWeekends Excellent, I've seen some chatter on the forums that was saying it was way too low, but it didn't look like with the camera angle you had.
I have this B&W hitch and they don’t have to be in a straight line with each other, although it helps. I did find that if the trailer and truck are on extreme non-level ground w truck much higher than trailer, I had trouble removing the bars from the hitch due to lack of travel space. But that is likely unique to me as I have a center frame support that starts 16.5” behind my jack that prevents the cylinder from swinging far enough back.
Yeah, I was actually using them quite a bit but I was NOT using the big toolbox much. Decided I'd rather have the bed space back and move what I had in the side boxes to the toolbox.
@@WanderingWeekends It'd be pretty cool if someone made a swing around box - something you could pivot to either side and access, but then swing back to get the bedspace and you could simply unpin and move making it simple to switch back and forth each day.
I'll be interested in your full review. I have been contemplating the tru tow and this since it was mentioned. Looking to replace my old reese trunnion setup that is about worn out. My only caution is my driveway has a dip where it hits the main street that about drags my hitch shank on, so this B&W would likely be hitting the pavement there.
Gosh, i’d like to ask you several questions about this hitch. But I don’t think i can get my questions typed out clearly for you. Don’t want to lay out another $1k with out some answers. And i don’t want to wast your time. Thanks for all the info i did get from your video. Guess ill keep weaving down the road. 😅 7.3 & 2670MK
Have you ever had issues of sway while having weight distribution hitch connected and Ford's trailer sway controller enabled? I have noticed with my Blue Ox on my 16 F350 I have to disable the trailer sway controller and tows 100x better.
@@turbopilot Not 100% sure. I just have read somewhere some times the weight distrubtion and sway controller fight against each other trying to combat sway. After turning mine off the trailer hauls so much better.
That looks like a nice Weight Distributing Hitch, but expensive. There are hitches that cost 1/4 of its price. How does it provide sway control? Why have you tried so many hitches? I bought my R-Vision TC21RBH camping trailer in 2009 for about $13,000. The dealer installed an Equalizer hitch on it. The trailer weighs 3345 lbs (UVW) and the truck has a 9,000 lb conventional trailer tow rating. So, the load bars don't need to be very tight for load leveling but I use it for the 4 point sway control. I have used my trailer to go camping about 7 times a year since 2009 and for our summer vacation every year. My trailer does not sway, but I have learned about the large force it puts on the trailer tongue when I go up a sudden incline. I see cases where the trailers frame gets bent from the use of load leveling hitches, is the B & W any better for that? The weight distributing (load leveling) hitches seem to be what is causing the trailers tongue to get bent. If I was to get a heavy trailer, it would probably be a fifth wheel with the weight on the truck ahead of the rear axle. That way you do not need to put a bending force on the trucks hitch and the trailers tongue.
I'm doing research for a new anti-sway hitch and this one has my attention. How does this compare so far to the Weigh Safe and ProPride? I need a new sway hitch in the next month and can't find many good reviews of this one.
I have to get some miles on this one before I can really give you a sincere review. Sometimes that takes time since we aren’t always towing the RV. Right now I’d choose a Weigh Safe over a Pro Pride for MY setup. I sold my ProPride. It was worth its value to me over the Weigh Safe. We will see about the Continuum.
@@WanderingWeekends I have the same trailer as yours but an F150. Based on your experience with Weigh Safe, do you think it will be as effective in windy conditions or with Truck Suck?
So is it just a weight distribution or is it an anti sway as well ? I need to get a hitch asap and was leaning more towards the weigh safe due to your reviews. I have a 30' toy hauler with a 4 seat RZR and when tractors pass me up it sways bad even at 65mph I already tried distributing weight as much as possible but not much success. Help is appreciated Thank you.
Looking forward to you full review. My initial thoughts are that while the hydraulic WD control is pretty cool. It’s great at fine tuning your WD setup and nice that you can do the full setup from one side of the hitch easily. However the hydraulics are also a failure point that more conventional hitches don’t have. And you know it’s going to fail at the worst possible moment. Also it will be Interesting to see what hook up and disconnection is like. As it is the system looks like it might be a bit of a pain point.
I’m not sure but even if it did I would probably shy away from trying. It’s such a crucial spot. Haha. I’m gonna stick to what they designed the hitch around. I do cheat with Equalizer saddle pins on the Weigh Safe though. Haha. Weigh Safe, if you’re listening switch to these pins vs the huge nuts and bolts if you can!
Do you happen to have a realistic idea of how long it'll take you to get some miles on the Continuum and release your full review video? Only asking because I'm ditching my TrackPro that's been nothing but problems and I'm not sure which trigger to pull--the WeighSafe or the Continuum! You're making the decision for me!
Question for you. How much does it hang down? The pictures on the website make it look low. It looked fine on your truck. I live on an island so ferry boat to get off. Depending on the tide the ramp can be at a nasty angle. I would be a bit worried about this hitch hanging down too far and possibly taking a hit. Other then that, it looks interesting. I will definitely be interested to see what your final thoughts are when you are done testing. On edit, just read a few of the other questions and answers, so it doesn't even hang as low as the bottom of the shank. Any chance you could give a measurement. Thanks.
I’ll have to get a measurement. Many are asking. When it’s being used it doesn’t seem to be an issue. When it’s disengaged one can pump it all of the way up if needed. I don’t see it being an issue but that is why I spend significant time with them. We will see!
You mention a lot that the ProPride is good but not 2-3 times the price good. Suggestion if you're interested, when you do your ranking of the 10 hitches, maybe do an outright ranking as well as a performance per dollar ranking. I watch a lot of tech channels and that is a (admittedly very subjective) way to try and normalize for price.
@@WanderingWeekends mines not, but I would like a little more weight up front. The Andersen is a little lacking in how much distribution you can actually get.
all what work? This hitch is probably one of the easiest WD hitch's to install, and hitch up time it is probably also in the same category as about the easiest to hook up. I am stuck between going with this one or the weight safe tru-tow
Ive tested the ProPride which is the Hensleys updated cousin. It is good but so are the Weigh Safe units. This hitch felt very good too but just not enough miles to give a true verdict yet.
Saw this on their website: "Eliminate sway and ensure a level, stable ride with this weight distribution hitch with sway control." ELIMINATE sway? I'll need proof of that.
I had some side winds on the first tow… it did very well. Much better than Blue Ox products. Only about 6 miles though. I’ll put 500 on it and then we will know for sure.
I’m curious what the measurement is from the top of the hitch (the part the ball mounts to, not the top of the ball) to the lowest point. That will give me an idea of ground clearance with my cargo trailer. Are you part of the HTSAYTC group that KYD created?
@@WanderingWeekends Sounds good, thanks! I will stay tuned for your review. I'm shopping for a new cargo trailer and want to get something that doesn't have "drop spring axles" like my current trailer, because I want more clearance. That will help my situation some.
I talked to the guys at B&W yesterday. Firstly really impressed that they answered the phone with no wait time and talked to him for over 30 minutes, answering questions about the Continuum. They said they've hauled trailers all the way through harsh Alaska roads and put over 150,000 miles on this hitch with no issues of clearance.
@@WanderingWeekends I have seen one in person and talked the to the owner. He said its the biggest drawback of this set up. speed bumps, inclines/declines (boondocking)
How much extra weight does all of this hitch setup add too hitch assembly? Sure seems like these fancy weight distribution setups and hitches in general add a lot of unnecessary weight to your tow rig.
This just seems overly complicated. It's like a German vehicle, over engineered. My concern is #1 hydraulics. Anything happens to those lines or tank you're S.O.L. I would, at very least, wrap those hydraulic lines with some type of kevlar sleeve, and definitely put a deflector plate in front of that hydraulic tank. One good rock at highway speed and that tank is toast.
Hmm, I feel quite the opposite about it being complicated. I feel it’s incredibly simple… As far as part failures, parts could fail on any hitch. The hydraulic parts would be tougher to find for sure.
If the instruction say to go as far back as possible on the bar that hold the hydraulic piston. Why not put it against the metal base of the propane tank? It would be cover by the plastic cover and reduce rain water on it. Also you have to fix your audio Commercials are very loud because your audio is too low
Maybe. I know farm and heavy equipment use hydraulics and they last for years. I think as long as you’re paying attention to the hose you’ll be good. Hard to say. I definitely get your point.
I'm not sure it would be devastating....and this is just my thoughts on the matter, nothing more. A tow vehicle should be sized to tow the weight of a trailer safely regardless of the load distribution any hitch provides. These things don't increase tow capacity, just improve the tow experience. That being said, in the unlikely event of loss of hydraulic pressure, it would essentially work just like a normal hitch (non weight distribution type), and you should be able to safely exit the road you are on and address the issue if you so chose to, same as a load distribution bar slipping out (for various reasons - can and has happened). I think all companies have to consider this in their design, regardless of the design, for liability purposes, it's got to be failsafe. This hitch ball being much closer to your receiver than some other designs (shorter shank length) further gives me confidence in the event of a loss of load distribution aid. What I mean is that it's simply less leverage, unlike the True Tow I have currently. A longer length is handy to drop the tailgate unobstructed while hitched up though. Keeping an eye out for the next video, may decided to switch, the lighter weight and shorter shank length is most attractive to me on this B&W. In the end it's all trade offs, what works best for your needs, your vehicles, and to your point, what you are most comfortable running. Hope I didn't offend you or anyone else, just my thoughts and sharing only to present a perspective that may not be immediately evident. Welcome any other perspective as well.

Great video and would like to see round up video ranking the 10 hitches.
That will 100% happen!
I would like to see more on this hitch. I have a Curt weight distribution hitch that came with my GD Momentum 30G that I am looking to upgrade. I have tried adjusting to remove some of the sag that I get with NY Duramax 2500 with no luck. This appears to be a good option.
Nice,Good information
You have a lot of pins to check each time you start traveling. I could see kids playing around and removing some of those pins. You may feel you want to put locking pins on some if not all of them. Good luck.
I’d argue there are several pins on nearly all of these hitches.
hope your travels keep you on LEVEL highways with this, i foresee some "ouch" moments..... 🤠
I wish they came out with this a few months sooner. I may have gotten it vs the propride.
@@WanderingWeekends...
Curious if you have been out on the high plains of Wyoming testing this and the ProPride...if not will you?
I think a cross between this and the anderson would be very good so you would have sway control.
This is definitely better with sway than the Andersen and the Andersen isn’t that bad.
I’ve had some interest in this hitch, but B&W’s website isn’t very good about providing information on it. Wish they had a 3” shank. Really looking forward to your full review.
nice video! it's for sure got my interest....just not sure I can convince my wife why I need to buy our 3rd hitch!!!!! lol
Understandable!!
Yep on that hitch head ease of changing. I just did mine on my hitch and out came the torque wrench and 15 minutes of cussing roughly...
Great point. That said if any component of any hitch fails you’ll have an issue on your hands.
@@WanderingWeekends
I run the Equal-i-zer setup very happy with it simple with little that can fail mechanically it has load leveling and sway control bought it for $750 with the purchase of our 2022 GD Imagine XLS 17 MKE however very interested in hearing your in service reviews of this B&W system.
I’m curious if the ball mount portion would work with Gen-Y Boss Torsion Flex WD shank. Seems like a nicer and easier setup
The ProPride stinger can real a huge PITA for sure.
Once you get used to how to set your WD bars on the ProPride it’s gets to be super easy to hook up. Far easier than more normal hitches where you have to remove and reinstall the bars every time. My wife feels the same way and it’s one of the things we live about the hitch.
If your truck has the factory shocks I’d replace them with Bilstien shocks that would help a lot with the bouncing
It isn’t a problem with most hitches.
I’d like to see you do a review of the Shocker Hitch.
They won’t respond to us 🫤
Looks like a fine piece fo gear for weight distribution. Although, I don't see how it controls sway?
The shaft under the tow ball does that work.
I’m eager to hear your overall assessment.
Any date yet for the review???? I am very interested and need to decide soon. Thanks and great video.
Shooting the vid early next week. If you need my opinion now… Weigh Safe.
@@WanderingWeekendsThank you and I'll be sure to watch the video when you release it.
Hoping you do this review soon as I am on the fence between the B&W and the WeighSafe as my first and Hopely only WDH. I have yet to see any reviews of the B&W on the internet.
Grand Designs are the best ❤
So two questions:
The whole hitch assembly as shipped is around 80 pounds.
@@tgh117 Thanks! Surprisingly light!
Great vid, would like to see on 1/2 ton and think it is way more difficult for a normal DIY
I’m pretty normal… 😂🤣
Nice info video Corey . Like my wife says " if he isn't handsome at least he's handy " . I guess your handy . Plugs out .
Haha! Handy enough!
The old red green show...lol
very intriged by this hitch! i do like my "o.g" EQ4 but my bed cargo often changes and then my hitch isn't setup correctly anymore. this one has my eye for sure...
Can you please include the hitch weight of hitches when you test them?
Sticking with the Anderson, it’s so easy to hitch up and go. And lightweight.
Also would like to see it on 1/2 ton
Looking good so far. Come on B&W, I'm still rootin' for ya! About how high off the ground was lowest part of the hitch?
More clearance than the bottom of the shank so it shouldn’t be a problem.
@@WanderingWeekends Excellent, I've seen some chatter on the forums that was saying it was way too low, but it didn't look like with the camera angle you had.
Do the tuck and trailer have to be in a straight line to hitch up? Seems like it would have to be since you can’t rotate the mounting point by hand.
No, I believe you can rotate it when it’s not under load. I may be wrong. Stay tuned.
I see the more traditional bed toolbox back in the truck - were the side boxes no longer working for ya'll?
Yeah, I was actually using them quite a bit but I was NOT using the big toolbox much. Decided I'd rather have the bed space back and move what I had in the side boxes to the toolbox.
@@WanderingWeekends It'd be pretty cool if someone made a swing around box - something you could pivot to either side and access, but then swing back to get the bedspace and you could simply unpin and move making it simple to switch back and forth each day.
Still worried about the sway control, or lack of it. They depend on the ball but is that enough?
Seemed to do well on this tow. We will see.
So is the sway control achieved with a friction collar?
Yes, shaft inside the head of the hitch.
How many hours before you have to rebuild the hydro cylinder or res unit?
I'll be interested in your full review. I have been contemplating the tru tow and this since it was mentioned. Looking to replace my old reese trunnion setup that is about worn out. My only caution is my driveway has a dip where it hits the main street that about drags my hitch shank on, so this B&W would likely be hitting the pavement there.
I’m sure we will encounter some spots where clearance will be important. I’ll keep an eye on it.
Curious what changes while towing when you disable Ford Trailer Sway Control?
@@turbopilot Not 100% sure. I just have read somewhere some times the weight distrubtion and sway controller fight against each other trying to combat sway. After turning mine off the trailer hauls so much better.
cool hitch i wonder if its as good as the weigh safe though?
I’ll have to spend time with it to see.
@@WanderingWeekends dont really see how it can do sway control as there is no friction points except for the ball?
That looks like a easy install,is the ball already tilted for you& is it easy to unhitch when you get to your campsite or home parking area
I've been eyeing that hitch for a while, I'd like to know if you can still open the tailgate ?
Unfortunately, no 😐

So is it just a weight distribution or is it an anti sway as well ? I need to get a hitch asap and was leaning more towards the weigh safe due to your reviews. I have a 30' toy hauler with a 4 seat RZR and when tractors pass me up it sways bad even at 65mph I already tried distributing weight as much as possible but not much success. Help is appreciated Thank you.
It claims anti-sway and I have to believe it performs based on that first tow. I'll have to spend more time with it to be sure. So far so good.
@@WanderingWeekends thank you appreciate your quick response I think since I need it now I'll jump to the weigh safe.
Seen all 10, now!
Appreciate you!
Hows the ground clearance going to be on a standard 1/2 ton.?
Looking forward to you full review.
My initial thoughts are that while the hydraulic WD control is pretty cool. It’s great at fine tuning your WD setup and nice that you can do the full setup from one side of the hitch easily.
However the hydraulics are also a failure point that more conventional hitches don’t have. And you know it’s going to fail at the worst possible moment.
Also it will be Interesting to see what hook up and disconnection is like. As it is the system looks like it might be a bit of a pain point.
Question wouldn’t this be the same as having airbags on your truck to level the truck and trailer.
Any limitations backing up?
No
Would that pin and clip work on the Weigh-safe middleweight head unit?
If I’m guessing mid-June 😐
Weigh Safe is a good bet if you can’t wait.
How often do they recommend going back and retork the bolts
I haven’t noticed that recommendation but I’d assume 100 miles or so.
Sway is good to go?
Pretty darn good!
I want to win one of these and compare it to my WeighSafe True Tow!
How does it work with the auto levelling on your truck?
I don’t have auto leveling…
can the PLOW part of the hitch be turned up and still work ? .....we don't need to plant corn with it
Auto planter is a option for 2024.
On a serious note, I get the concern but it’s never been an issue for us.
@@WanderingWeekends Thanks Cory
You mention a lot that the ProPride is good but not 2-3 times the price good. Suggestion if you're interested, when you do your ranking of the 10 hitches, maybe do an outright ranking as well as a performance per dollar ranking. I watch a lot of tech channels and that is a (admittedly very subjective) way to try and normalize for price.
We will absolutely do that video!
Worth the extra cost over the Andersen?
If your trailer is over 30ft OAL yes. Absolutely
@@WanderingWeekends mines not, but I would like a little more weight up front. The Andersen is a little lacking in how much distribution you can actually get.
Boy, it had better be a BIG DIFFERENCE in towing for all the works!
And the cost $1300.
all what work? This hitch is probably one of the easiest WD hitch's to install, and hitch up time it is probably also in the same category as about the easiest to hook up. I am stuck between going with this one or the weight safe tru-tow
@@pvp64 any of the 10k hitches are all around the 1k price tag for a quality hitch.
Have you tested the Hensley hitch it is remarkable.
@@WanderingWeekends Impressive, so far. 🤞
Would you prefer the B&W Continuum or the Weigh Safe?
I have to get some significant miles on the Continuum before answering that question. 😐
I’m curious what the measurement is from the top of the hitch (the part the ball mounts to, not the top of the ball) to the lowest point. That will give me an idea of ground clearance with my cargo trailer. Are you part of the HTSAYTC group that KYD created?
I’ll have to cover ground clearance in the review.
@@WanderingWeekends Sounds good, thanks! I will stay tuned for your review. I'm shopping for a new cargo trailer and want to get something that doesn't have "drop spring axles" like my current trailer, because I want more clearance. That will help my situation some.
Does B&W offer a Professional Install?
Reach out to them and see. Its a pretty simple DIY though.
It sits low, any problems dragging it up and down driveways.
Not at all. We will see if it becomes an issue.
Using a locking hitch pin for theft but the ball is just 2 quick pins 😂😂
your going to plant some corn with that thing eventually...
I keep seeing clearance comments… it has more clearance than most of the drop shanks I’ve used included this one. 🤷🏻♂️
@@WanderingWeekends I have seen one in person and talked the to the owner. He said its the biggest drawback of this set up. speed bumps, inclines/declines (boondocking)
I did'nt see a lock on the pump handle some people and kid's might want to mess with it
How much extra weight does all of this hitch setup add too hitch assembly?
Also you have to fix your audio
Commercials are very loud because your audio is too low
I think I will pass not because its a poor product but because of the KISS method. A hydraulic line blowout at speed could be devastating
