Fred Astaire called this the greatest dance sequence ever filmed.

Cab Calloway's most famous song is Minnie the Moocher. If you've seen the movie The Blues Brothers then you've seen him perform it. The Nicholas Brothers were one of the most famous tap dancers of the era. Really cool video. Love when the younger generations get exposed to the classics.

First record to sell over 1 million copies. Try to get the full uncensored version from the ‘30s not the sanitized one from a ‘50s TV show. Cab was one of the most popular performers of his time and has a bunch of great songs.

From the 1943 movie Stormy Weather , with Lena Horne and Dizzy Gillespie . Excellent choice ladies , and one that Kathy needs to see .

I have seen this a few times & it always amazes me. These brothers were extremely talented. It always gets me when they do the split jumps. You would think they would hurt themselves. Glad this film clip has been preserved for the younger generation to see.

The best dance sequence ever! And they aren’t even out of breath!

Legend has it that this was filmed in one take with no rehearsal.

It may well have been done in one take, but there's no way they could do that complex a routine with no rehearsal.

@@almostfmplus it was filmed on 35mm film, which is and was very expensive. There’s no way they didn’t rehearse this, if only for the sake of the camera crew.

The Nocholas Brothers were two very talented dancers in phenomenal condition. I wonder if anyone has attempted to top that. Good luck. Thank you ladies.

Absolutely astonished that a young lady like Lulu did such a good job of narrating what she saw and the dancing from a clip that is over 80 years old. Quite entertaining, and the band and horns were great.

Have you ever heard of the Cotton Club in Harlem, NYC? Cab Calloway was a regular there. He was the Band Leader. This was part of a movie.

Hi ladies, Aww Man! No Kathy this time. Well, like you said she had to work. You gotta make that cash. lol I just wanted to say that I remember when my mom had told me that she got to see the Nicholas Brothers live in person as a kid. My grandfather (her dad) too her to see them at the Apollo Theater when she was just a kid. She said that they were unbelievable to see live. Also, both Cab Calloway and the Nicholas Brothers were in one of Janet Jacksons (Michael Jackson's sister) videos in the 80's. That was crazy to see. Great job Lulu and Donna. You both looked like you were having a good time watching this video.

It’s a well-known showbiz fact that the Nicholas brothers were only 1/3 human 1/3 Gumby and 1/3 bionic men
In the great Cab Calloway, so much fun, just a great scatter, famous for Minnie the moocher just love the big band era

I recognize bits of this from cartoons as a kid.

"Jumpin' Jive", introduced in 1939, also performed in a movie as seen here with the Nicholas Brothers in 1939, a dancing duo who also had very good voices as some of their movies can attest too.

Who was the first person to do the moonwalk dance move? Hint, it wasn't Michael Jackson. Cab Calloway was one of the first to do this, but back in the 1930's it was called "The Buzz".

I've never seen such pure Joy on the face of Beautiful souls, much less in the lovely eyes and gorgeous smiles of Pretty Girls! Pretty Girl+her Pretty Grandchild, no less! I'm sure none of Your subscribers would object if You Kids did an additional video showing this to Your missing third Generation; if she gets time off from her galivantin'😊❤

The Nicholas Brothers had a lot of dance sequence film credits in Hollywood during the 40's & 50's but were edited out in Southern State theater's to comply with Jim Crow laws.

Women tend to not react much when the brothers drop into a split, while men always have looks of horror on their faces and often groan in sympathy.

Too bad your version cut off. This song led to the closing and credits for the movie. What would have been interesting was how the audience got up and danced, the kind of social activities one did during the swing era. The guys are in their uniforms, and the gals in stylish evening dresses. The credits show the names of the bandleader and dancers under still shots. A history lesson is the appearance of an announcement to buy your war bonds out in the lobby. People were doing without. Food and fuel were rationed. You couldn't buy nylon stockings, etc. Still, people dug deeper into their resources to support the war efforts by buying bonds.
