It was Alydar who got me into horse racing in '78. I rooted for him thoughout the TC. I've never seen the whole race. It's nice to see Alydar in complete dominance. Thank you for sharing.
I just returned from the Travers at Saratoga. I decided to watch some classic races. Alydar really was the reason I fell in love with the game. Watching him handle the field in The Whitney...well, it was his moment in the sun. I guess to me he represents the grace of coming in second while knowing you have what it takes to be first. I hated to see his life end the way it did. I don't go to many races without thinking of Alydar. I have a soft spot for Seattle Slew too. Both great

RIP John Veitch, trainer of Alydar

I've been looking for a replay of this race for a long time. Thanks
What acceleration around the turn and down the stretch! Much the best here.
He ran by 'em like they were tied to a post.
Impressive!
I love Alydar =)
My all time favorite horse. What races those would have been with Slew, Bid and Afffirmed such a shame he got injured
If I am not mistaken, this race was still a G2 back in 1978. Does anyone know when it became a G1?
