【Ichihara City】Geomagnetic Reversal Formation Chibanian

The name Chibanian or Ionian was considered by the International Committee on Stratigraphy of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS-ICS), and in January 2020, it was decided to be Chibanian.
The boundary between Calabrian and Chibanian is the time of the Matsuyama-Brune reversal, the last geomagnetic reversal in Earth's history. The following three strata were listed as candidates for the International Standard Model stratigraphic cross-section and site to show this.
Japan, "Chiba Section" along the Yoro River in Tabuchi, Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture
"Montalbano Ionico Section" in the province of Matera, Basilicata, Italy
"Valle di Manche section" of San Mauro Marchesato, province of Crotone, Calabria, Italy
Although the papers used in the proposal application submitted to the International Commission on Stratigraphy have raised doubts about the deletion (falsification) of paleogeomagnetic data, Ibaraki University and the National Institute of Polar Research, which received the accusations, have decided not to conduct the investigation, saying that the paper has already been published in a peer-reviewed academic journal and does not affect the conclusion, so it is not research fraud.
In response to Chibanian's decision, the company plans to spend a total project cost of about 1.5 billion yen from FY2021 to FY2026 to develop local guidance facilities, etc., and in August 2022, Kengo Kuma Architects & Urban Design Office was entrusted with the design.
