    It would be more interesting if we could see where the arrows are going and how they flew, I would like to know how many yards they went

    The sound of that release...l.intense!!!!!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 I maybe an odd ball; but, the louder, the crisper the sound of a release, the nicer. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

      Just have it strung in the morning and just pull it throughout the day then unstring it at night. That's what I do to exercise with my 70 pound while I wait for my 55 pound that's coming in the mail.

    Cool video Joseph, it also shows the style to pull a heavy bow and a good release

    This was 150lbs distance shooting ..... so what was the distance? I have read that the archers on board The Mary Rose could hit a beer butt at 200 yards.

    Apologies if this question has been asked already. What is the purpose of "dipping" down prior to loosing your arrow?

    • @nitroglitch45

      Maybe Joe is used to firing forward, so he does that to maintain the form from his muscle memory?

    Hi Joe, any chance showing us that 100lb plum bow you got? I can't find any good heavyweight plum selfbow around and wondering how it performs as well as how good it looks!

    Who collects your arrows? :-) I too love distance shooting with my heavy bow ( which ofcourse at 80 lbs draw weight, is not a heavy war bow like yours) but fetching the arrows back again really pisses me off! Can you make a video on distance shooting on a target...would like to see the groupings! Also is there any mention of thumbs rings used for shooting English long bows?

    Nice field. Seriously lacking decent space around my area in Darlington. Everything is crop and private land. What range you getting out of those? I know I clocked almost 900ft out of my 75lber. Well, google maps said 872ft. A bit over 2 footbal fields.

      @londiniumarmoury7037 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@evilduckoncrack Pulling the string back isnt the same as comfortably taking aim and shooting properly. If you can only pull it back 4 times before you max out, then that bow is too heavy for you. Its like a swordsman who can wield a 14 kilo sword in battle as his job, Vs somebody who can lift the sword up and make 3 cuts with it before he is knackered. Being able to pull the bow doesnt mean you are ready to be considered an archer who can use it every day for his regular duty.
      I only use a 40 lb bow, i can pull back bows over 100 but i dont shoot them regular or own any yet myself. I can shoot my 40 lb bow 500 times in a row though and still have energy to use my sword after.

    • @evilduckoncrack
      @evilduckoncrack 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@londiniumarmoury7037 Yeah I know, but my point is that surely to break a record for example, you would only need to get the string back and loose the arrow. If he can draw it once then I dont see why he couldn't shoot it once, inaccurate or not.

    • @Evan-rj9xy
      @Evan-rj9xy ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a couple years late to the party, but you kinda need to lean forward when drawing these heavy bows and it's how the manuscripts depict archers from the time. It's the best way I know of to properly recruit your back muscles, and the forward posture helps keep your leading arm aligned with your torso, giving you more stability while resisting the incredible compressive forces. If you try to stay upright kinda like a modern Olympic archer, your rear shoulder muscles may try to take over and they physically cannot handle these high draw weights on their own.
      If done correctly leaning forward with proper 'medieval' posture is not only comfortable, it helps avoid injury.
