  • Hi, amazing people, just a quick guide on how to care for one of my favourite mosses, the Fissiden moss. These mosses are very easy to grow and great for most fish and shrimp. Hope you enjoy!
Also, if you are in Sydney, Australia, come check out Hurstville Aquariums, as i would love to meet/help you out.

I'm trying out Fissidens Fontanus and Fissidens Nobilis in my shrimp tanks ... and the shrimp seem to love it as much as java moss and hornwort. Fissidens looks stunning once it overtakes rocks or hardscape in a mound and I hope I can achieve that result eventually. Thanks for the video instruction on how to propagate and the tip of letting the moss outcompete algae for nutrients by increasing light.

Hope your moss grows well, yea I saw some amazing fissiden mounds in some peoples tank on facebook. One was like 30cm diameter and looked so good, wish I had one that big haha.

I always have problems with the long green hair like algae that forms only from fissiden and ends up over taking the top of it if not removed. It also has a very distinct smell to it when taken out of the take compared to any type of moss.

I've never heard of that before. I don't know the names of very many aquarium plants though.

There are many species/ varieties of mosses and plants . In fissiden alone (one in video) you will eg get fissiden fontanus, fissiden nobilis, fissiden fox, sydney mini fissiden, vietnam mini fissiden, eg

I have this moss on driftwood growing for about 3 months now and finding lots of long green strands of hair (algae?) coming off it. I have to pull out as much as possible after every weekly water change otherwise it will get out of control. Are you or anyone else out there with this moss finding the same issue? It’s a beautiful looking moss when it’s thick and full but some part of me regrets getting it now because of this issue.

What kind of nutrient dies a moss need

Same as plants but they don't require a lot in my opinion and no supplementary fertilisers are needed
