wish the movie would have delved into how Jamey Collins (played by Bradley Whitford) just happened to be the one to decide to look in central files and be the one to find it. maybe that would have helped prove even more how Andy was sabotaged, but maybe that would have distracted too much from the discrimination theme.
I don't think the movie viewer needed any scene to explain why Jamey Collins went to look in central files. We all knew at this point that it was a set up, and whether Jamey only claimed he found it in central files, or that someone put it there and told Jamey to look for it there, is not important anymore.
@@xsu-is7vq Jamey was a Grade A Liar, he may have been Gay but was too ashamed to admit it. Also he may have been blackmailed to make Andrew look bad. Also I bet Andrew covered his backside when he may have made past mistakes.

In Pennsylvania courts (and many courts), attorneys are not allowed in the well (the area between the jury, the bench and the attorney's tables) without permission, and in this trial to be on the record one needs to ask questions from their own table. This was very subtle, in that the other attorney asks it as a question rather than as an objection to gently move Denzel's character back home where he isn't gaining points from the jury by aligning himself with the witness.
Counsel tables are the two tables seen in the courtroom. Typically, counsel is expected to cross-examine from the podium or, if permitted, from the well of the courtroom. Typically, counsel does not approach the witness unless permitted by the court. For counsel to remain there and propound questions is not typical. Defense counsel's subtle objection and the judge's subtle directive were proper and polite.

Attorneys enter the well between their counsel table and the judge’s bench and approach the jury all the time in movies and TV shows because it looks dramatic and allows for more dynamic cinematography, but it reality, express permission by the judge has to be given in order to enter the well. While rules of court vary over different jurisdictions, in general, an attorney entering the well without authorization would be immediately escorted out by the bailiff if not physically tackled, so entering the well is less common than depicted on screen.
fox2mike28 thanks! I was a defence attorney in Australia for years and we had to stand to examine a witness or address the court, but you could never leave the bar table to even retrieve a document from your bag without the judge’s permission. Trust me when I say that witnesses in court can get really upset and emotional about seemingly mundane subjects. There is a lot of pressure on you when you are speaking in front of loads of people and strangers
