    I absolutely love this channel! I am a novice bowler that has been stuck in the low 100's range with house balls. I bought my very first personal ball yesterday (drilled fingertip) and although it was SUPER uncomfortable at first, after a few games I threw my highest score of 166! I am super excited to get some more practice and see higher scores! These videos have definitely been a huge help

    from an old guy....30-mumble years ago one thing i used to encounter in my shop with players who wanted to get more on the ball... aka increased revs...most were not properly fit. Often so badly it forced all manner of unconscious changes in hand position just to get out of the ball, thus killing and chance of doing much rev wise. Moving them to a position in the ball via proper fit for them led to a cleaner, and, at first, a very weird feeling.
    Proper fit is so key. Not only to give a player the freedom to change or improve but also to help them have fun and have a longer "career".
    Every time i see a player tearing up their thumb it like a neon sign they need to be re-fit.
    I think we lost a lot of frustrated players to this part of the game.
    If you covered this in an earlier video... oops! I haven't been apart of things for a couple decades but have friends who are actually excited to bowl every week. What a great thing to see.
    Love your videos here and watching you young'uns play these new conditions with real understanding... but its still stand left throw right cash check...gotta love it but my new hip not so much, had to be my slide leg too. d'oh!
    Keep teaching and showing how much live you have for the sport!

    THIS is the motion i have been looking for! ive been practicing this yoyo release but ive been doing it by hitting up on the ball instead of uncoiling at the bottom of the swing, like this video shoes. i have been swinging my arm like a pendulum this whole time and i see now that you actually have to have a little cup in your elbow and wrist (not just wrist) to deliver the ball down, into the lane. this makes so much more sense! please do more on this if you can! that side view of the release was perfect! thank you thank you thank you

    Awesome follow up video that you did a few months ago. I think the distinction between using only the wrist and incorporating the elbow is so important for getting underneath the ball. Your elbow uses your tricep/bicep to bend, and those muscles are MUCH stronger than only your wrist. Great job guys!

    Appreciate the crystal clear instruction. It is frustrating as a beginning bowler to throw a ball that is good in heavy oil (Magic Gem)and have it show the same response as a light oil ball (Motiv Blue Coral). Seeing the “snap” gives me a clear picture of exactly what to work on.

    I haven’t watched instructional bowling videos before so I was just trying to emulate what I thought I was seeing, and without slow motion and an explanation, I was getting it wrong. In my 30’s, I managed to get my average up to about 180, but I had to stop bowling for over 30 years, due to a car accident, which required two back surgeries and confined me to a wheelchair for a short period of time. Now, at the age of 67, I decided to start bowling again, because I needed to increase my exercise. I’m enjoying it so much, I joined 3 leagues and bowl Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights, but might need to quit the Friday night team, so I don’t wear myself out. I can’t wait to get to the bowling alley to practice the release tips from this video.

    Great explanation of the cupped wrist and elbow! I can personally say just the cupped wrist makes you injury prone...
    Two years ago I ended up getting tendonitis in my wrist because of cupping only my wrist and it was RIGHT in the middle of the high school bowling season and I was out for three months. Had to use a wrist brace for a while after that, but now I’m back to normal and am cupping the wrist again, but with a little more elbow bend. I’m still working on bending that elbow a tiny bit more, but I’ve certainly improved since two years ago!

    Seems like I naturally do that covering many spares without the uncoil effect to cover more pins. I Will have to try it more often on 1st shots as many times I need more revs even on house patterns. For many years I rolled with what some call chicken winging it without the uncoiling and yes that definitely causes pain. Will try this new way for sure. Thanks.

    This is amazing information I never realized this (granted this is my first year bowling more competitively) and the fact that I was doing the opposite of the yo-yo the whole time. As a two finger bowler though, any tips besides keeping the wrist cupped? I naturally have to cup a bit more since I don't have the support of my thumb, but was wondering if there was anything else I should try to increase rev rate.
    Thanks for all the great content guys can't wait to see more videos with your respective new teams as well!

    Hey guys! Love the video and congrats on making I to the Playoffs! Anyways as of late I’ve been having some trouble clearing my thumb from the ball which causes unnecessary loft. I’d say pretty comparable to Mika. Some of it comes from me being tall (I’m about 6’3 lol) and a lack of proper knee bend. Also from video I notice my thumb doesn’t clear until it’s past my foot. I still get a lot on the ball somehow (I may be 475-500) but I know I’d be a lot more accurate if I could clear my thumb correctly. If you have any tips I’d really appreciate it!

    For me if you watch my bowling videos on my channel I do the yoyo and have a bent elbow and i whipe around the ball and I have been doing it for years since 2017 and this season I had to go to the sarge Easter grip because it hurt . And I combine the yoyo and what Darren's brother said with the wrist like a spring that is compressed then when releasing the ball it is like you let go of the spring and it pops up fast . But this does help me and it works for me.

    I've been practicing the Yo-Yo release. I have no problem cupping my wrist, or elbow, but for some reason when I go to release, this is where I get confused. I am from the school of thought where you have to lift with your fingers to get anything on the ball... Any help on this?
    Do I just flick my wrist down and not lift at all or turn my hand, but just stay behind the ball the entire time and let it come off my fingers with no lift? Please help as no one I know seems to use this technique, but all do it old school by lifting with their fingers.
    I am trying to learn about launch angels, break point, and of course Yo-Yo release. Thanks guys for your training videos. I love them, just not quite grasping this particular thing...

  • @frankskyle1
    @frankskyle1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Very well explained, guys. Thanks. A couple of things: I'm working on increasing my rev rate, but it has already improved by getting more stability at the foul line. It may not be obvious to everyone that you can lose revs because of what your feet are doing.
    Also, I would save the yo-yo release until after you are consistently keeping your wrist cupped, or at least firm, consistently. It is so difficult to change everything at once.
    Lastly, more of a question. I seem to have better results when I accelerate a split second before the release, still in the "flat spot", but I am still figuring out how much to make happen, how much to let happen, etc. (I'd love to hear from crankers out there exactly what they are feeling, thinking, etc. to get the timing right.

      @DownforceInc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Re: getting the time right - if your shoes have interchangeable soles, try the stickiest options you've got. Sliding less helped me get more stability and later timing, and my revs went up as a result (though I'm not a cranker by any means).

    Do you guys have any info on older bowlers on the tour and how they stay in shape? Im in my mid-thirties (not massively old I know) and getting back into bowling, only to notice I have developed knee pain as Im older and in worse shape.
    Knee pain is surely a common thing for older bowlers, so do you know any exercises that can be done to combat this? Or are there any PBA bowlers who I could ask on social media about this? Thanks

    Would the blue hammer vibe be too strong for a slow, low rev bowler?

    so I'm going from putting my hand on top to having it on bottom, and from what I'm getting here is starting 2 handed may give me the muscle memory (I usually bowl with a straight arm so it'll get me used to bending my elbow) to do it 1 handed after a game of 2 handed, is this true or am I thinking of this wrong

    What do you think of the helicopter roll....A teammate had half of his games using it with 300 (10) score results in one summer league. The ball wont shoot the the back, but the ball hangs in the pin area spinning arounf and knocks dow a lot of pins.

    Im just getting back into bowling and am havning great difficulty gaining revs. the "YoYo effect" you talk about is intersting, but even watching your side images I don't see it. Maybe my YoYo days were differnt, but that would seem to drop the bowl opposed to keeping under it. What about a super slow mo side video, frame by frame, that shows it more clearly?

    Question, when practicing should you use a lighter ball and heavier ball to try and increase revs? This approach works for golf swing speed. Thanks

      Yes Jim I would practice with a lighter ball to get the technique down that's a good questionyes gym I would practice with a lighter ball to get the technique down that's a good question and then move up to a heavy your ball as you strength in your wrist
