    The land mine issue is blown out of proportions. It's been cleared for the past 30 years and while there are dangerous areas, they are nowhere near populated places, they're mostly in remote hills or side roads that are closed off for public. Other than that, I'm really glad you guys had fun there, I'm Bosnian who lives in the US at the moment and I always like when people from other countries visit my homeland and share their experiences. I hope the rest of your trip went well too! Cheers

      That's what a few people in the comments have said! Glad to hear that it's an exceedingly rare issue. When we visited parts of Croatia it still seemed like it was very much a problem, so when we saw the warnings we were wary.

    What a beautiful city. It’s always heavy seeing bullet holes and such still remaining in certain places like that. We saw that in Poland and it’s really sobering. “Shagged” coffee? Is that the vinegar thing? Hmm, weird. But I’d try it! Love the editing, the quick cuts of a bunch of different scenes in between, really cool. Looks really pretty here, we’d love to visit!

    • @IfWeGoTo

      We never figured it out. 😂 But uh… not my style of coffee personally.
      And thank you guys so much!! We weren’t planning on making this video until recent events changes our plans and reduced our content potential! Lol. So despite the many audio issues and weird jumping around, I’m glad you guys enjoyed it!

    @kenok1225 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I know exactly which video you mean when you say the person had a hard time with sim cards and credit cards. I was really surprised and sad to hear him say that. It's true that Bosnia is behind the West in tech and all that, but in Sarajevo at least I can pay almost everywhere with the card. I am so glad that you had a different experience.

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It made us sad too... to see their video title and then such a negative initial outlook on the city, especially with how large they are & the influence they have on their viewers. We're pretty experienced travelers ourselves and they even had us worried!! I don't want to shame them because I know someone can have a hard or bad time in even the easiest of locations. While I support honesty in travel videos, you have to be mindful of how you may be representing a place.. just wish they did that a little better!
      We really didn't feel like Sarajevo or Bosnia was difficult at all! We had a harder time with our credit cards in the Netherlands! lol. Don't worry, anyone complaining about that there nowadays simply wasn't prepared or willing to look around a bit. :)
      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! It means a lot that you stopped by!

      @@IfWeGoTo You know, I also appreciated their (and your) depiction in terms of showing how chaotic and bizzare Bosnia can be at times, because that's true too. And I don't worry how it might impact people. It's literally on the bottom of Bosnia's list of problems.

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh I meant impact tourism!! One post can make a huge difference and can really influence how people view it! Not that you guys want to be overrun with tourists, but tourism can be healthy for a place too!! hahaha.
      And yes, but a little chaos can make it more of an experience! Either way, we loved it there! Hoping to return one day and visit some of the smaller cities too!

      @@kenok1225 Oh ok!! hahah. Hmm, I dont think they would change someones plans if they'd already made them or they had done significant research, but when I was planning Sarajevo, the first thing I saw when starting research was "dont go!"... and with so many options out there someone may see that and say.. "well if they had a hard time, why not go somewhere easier?" if you know what I mean?
      Still not trying to shame that person for their experience, but telling people not to go rather than, "go, experience it yourself, but this may be hard for you because" is a pretty extreme take on a place imo!

    Thank you for the objective experience in a vlog. If you are still in Sarajevo, try to travel a bit outside of it, there are great spots in the mountains where you really can enjoy the nature. On the other hand, there is a great train ride 7am every morning from Sarajevo to Mostar and 5pm back to Sarajevo, the vista you will experience is breathtaking.
    Pro tip: Take a first class ticket if you decide to take the train, its under 3 USD upgrade cost, but you will have more space and comfort, and get early to the train station. During the summer there are around 300 passengers every morning, and you need to pickup the ticket at the teller, even if you buy it online.

      I also wish we knew about the upgrade!! 2nd class was still great, but it would have been cool to see the upgraded version too!! And we had no idea that you would need to see the teller regardless if you purchased online. I'm sure someone will see your tips here and use them!! Maybe I can add them in text when we edit the video! :) Thank you so much!!

Then I'll fly to Romania where I will start my visits to these Balkan Countries. I'll have almost 70-UN countries once I am done. I'm Bosnian but I don't like bosnian coffee, espresso all the way ☕
    Also the unexploded mines are not as big of an issue as it was like 15-20 years ago. Minefields that are still left are usually located in remote mountainous terrain not near the hiking trails and they're very well marked.

It seemed like there were a lot of fantastic trails in the mountains. Would love to come back one day and do them knowing this!!

    1:20 he ripped you off, but you did a better job than most visitors who come across Sarajevo Taxi stand in front of the airport. The normal price from the airport to the location I see here on the video shouldn't be more than 10-11 Euros, maximum 13, but even that is way too much. As a Bosnian, I warmly suggest everyone to avoid Sarajevo Taxi stand at the airport. Please call Crveni taxi or any other local company (you can find numbers online) and wait in front of the airport entrance or taxi will pick you up at Kiss and fly stand in front of the terminal building.

    4:22 I'm pretty sure which vlogger you're both referring to. 😂 On a serious note, as someone who once lived and worked there, I've got to point out the fact that you've both got white privilege in BiH, hence the favourable experience compared to other vloggers.

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No hate on them, but they posted it briefly before my trip and it made me nervous to go!! I think a less rash headline would’ve been good.. I think it’s less the experience they had and more how they presented it!
      Totally understand that though and absolutely agree with you. I know some places in that region of the world can be extremely racist. Although when watching their video I don’t recall them mentioning it as an issue there, but it has been a while now.. maybe I skipped that part. If that caused them problems I can sympathize with their hesitation to be excited about it… but we’ve also unfortunately seen racism present in other countries that particular person has been to and praised. I guess it’s personal experience, but also hard to say that embodies an entire country… I’m sure they know that.

    • @the.nolander
      @the.nolander 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IfWeGoTo There was indeed a degree of exaggeration from that particular vlogger, especially about SIM cards and gypsies. But from personal experience I can confidently confirm that 'racism' is the key word here, which is not only faced by certain tourists/expats who visit the place but also between locals themselves. Bottom line: the amount of racism in that country that I faced while living there (especially at hospitals) outweighs all the racism I've faced in a lifetime.

    • @IfWeGoTo
      @IfWeGoTo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure. Not to discredit their experience, but I felt like if they’d just looked or researched… it wasn’t that hard. For us we had a wayyy easier time in Bosnia than say… Ukraine in that aspect.
      That is definitely heartbreaking to hear. I’m so sorry you experienced that. Unfortunately I can’t say I’m totally surprised about it though, we’ve been to a couple of places in the Balkans (though not BiH) that had straight up nazi symbolism in their business windows.. and in BiH heard a couple of locals openly express homophobia.
      That said, poor treatment due to racism, sexism, etc etc is certainly a valid reason not to promote somewhere… but, depending on the severity of their experience… maybe a properly presented vlog could be a good way to bring awareness to the issue/break down barriers/bring understanding. It depends ofc, but throwing a blanket “don’t go there!” could be inflammatory and unnecessary. I also don’t know what happened to that person though. I mean if I experienced a hate crime or felt endangered or something, I’d warn people and say not to go too. I just don’t recall that being brought up by them. Maybe I missed it.

    18 euros is not a fair taxi price. If he makes 10 trips per day, and he does, that's 180+ euros per day minus his expenses. His take home pay is then at least 90 euros per day. or 1800 euro per month. does that sound reasonable for a Bosnian with high school education or less? Fair price is half of that.

    • @IfWeGoTo

      @@IfWeGoTo Its not a terrible deal, but tourists should know that if they leave the airport grounds and find a taxi outside the airport area, it's under 20 marks to the old town. Taxis are the first experience a foreigner has with the country and they have to do better.

  • @DOTTORE_FOX
    @DOTTORE_FOX 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think the taxi driver charged you too much. Approximately one kilometer is like 1BAM so a distance like airport till city center should cost about 15BAM which is about 7.8 USD. Avoid grabbing the first taxi of course they will charge double or threefold the average price.. In worst case there is local taxi companies that will come infront of the airport (they won't enter through the barrier so you would wait next to the main street)
    CRVENI TAXI - 033 760 600
    SAMIR I EMIR - 033 15 16
    PAJA - 033 15 22
    KALE TAXI - 033 570 900
    HOLAND-COMPANY - 033 431 111
    SARAJEVO TAXI - 033 15 15
    TAXI 8 - 062 828 928
    If you are calling with a foreign sim card don't forget to put the bosnian dialing code 00387 instead of a zero at the beginning
    Also changing money is quite cheap at the shopping centers and always a legitimate place where you are not waiting for too long (banks are often crowded especially during the summer season)
    Putting into consideration that you entered the first taxi at the exit of the airport the price is still fair though! (The drivers usually pay like some fee in order to be able to enter the airport, so of course they have to charge a bit more than the average taxi driver)
