Noo never took him to a trainer and I believe with an Akita it is better to do the training yourself. It just took a lot of time and dedication with him and continues to be a lot of work keeping him well socialized.

@shadownivorytheakitas thank you for saying that. Akitas listen to their owners and their owners only, once you take them to a trainer they might come back trained, but they won't listen to you since you're not the one they look up to and the one who taught them.
akitas are great dogs, I have a large American akita male, very well behaved, plays in back yard, walks every day, and in house, companion, alot of people assume if they see a akita that they are mean, so wrong
You are exactly right. It’s the other dogs who don’t know how to show proper respect and try to alpha up and doing that to an Akita is the wrong move… we all know this. You just have to keep your dog out of those situations before they happen!
I’ve had many dogs (Beagle, Husky, a shelter Pitbull/Great Dane mix)…..and just love how beautiful Akitas are!!! I have friends with Akitas and they tell me that an Akita is definitely not for me! Why? All of my dogs have been very social with humans and dogs alike (I didn’t have to do much). I understand that…..and I’m willing to put in the extra effort. But from my Akita friends and breeders…..they all say no matter how hard I try to socialize an Akita….it’s a coin flip at best…..and most likely an Akita will be very aggressive to other dogs, especially other male dogs. Human aggression can be tempered to a certain extent. This breaks my heart as I’m in love with how beautiful the Akita is (it reminds me of my father’s dog when he was growing in occupied South Korea before the Korean War). Is there any hope for a sociable, friendly Akita? If not, it’s such a shame!
Actually if you socialize them, show them love and kindness,, hug them and, if it's a male, neuter them, they should be fine with other dogs. Also make sure to establish dominance over them to show that your are the boss. They are not for everyone and extremely independent which can be frustrating until you accept them for what they are. Beyond that they are the most magnificent dogs in the world.
My akita is always happy to see other dogs sometimes he even wind because he wants to play with them however I don't allow it because although he's happy and wants to play the moment the other dog shows any signs of aggression or does something he doesn't like such as sniffing his but he will flip out and he has actually been socialized since he was 6 weeks he is now 3
Yes mine too ! I have socialized mine I have done everything I know to do for him and he only likes two people. He will tolerate A female but a male dog it's a no-go.😢
Can anyone tell me is this Akita just ridiculously tall? Because I’ve got a female obviously going to be shorter but she is nowhere near Great Dane height

akitas need to be socialized from day one. they learn better if you the owner trains them. THEY ARE NOT A DOG FOR BEGINNERS. they take a lot of time to get them to be good as tbis one. However learn the little things that will set your akita off. tou may trust your akita but never trust another dog until they have shown what they will do. Remember if your Akita goes into defense or attack mode they do not have an off button.

Wow. That’s impressive. Bc honestly if I saw an Akita at the dog park I would turn back around and head home…but surprisingly yours was nice. 😂

I’ve raised Akita’s for 30 years I’ve had 13 of them two males over 140 pounds and I’m telling you it’s a bad idea to bring them to the dog park.
