Kids growing up now think Katy Perry, Beyoncé or Lady Gaga are big, but they have no idea. Michael Jackson was on a whole different level and he literally wrote nearly all his music (and ACTUALLY wrote it, he wasn't gifted writing credits by the record company like they do, to make artists seem more authentic and talented), invented and did most of his choreography etc. He created the choreography element to pop music, especially to that level, that's why all 90's pop had synchronised choreography. He also crossed generations which never normally happens with pop music, my parents loved his music.
My parents and grandparents loved Michael Jackson, and they are all gone now! my Italian grandma wanted me to marry him, LOL! Never got close, but she loved his heart, and she said she loved him as much as she loved Elvis. (and that was a LOT!) My mom named my brother Ben because it was on the radio when she was in the Hospital (and she LOVED that song!) as it was popular then. My parents even let me stay up to watch Michael sing Ben at the Academy Awards, and it was a big deal, because I was like 8 or so.
Well technically he did have help. He could not actually read or write sheet music. He would just hum the tune to his musicians and they would help him transcribe it.

MJ holds a special place in my heart because I’m named after him in tribute to my oldest sister who died 3 months before I was born

I remember i used to play the Michael Jackson video game in the 7/11 store (back when they had arcade games) based off this video. One the best games I've ever played at the time. The choreography was probably a bit better than the song. Crazy, to say, i know.
I was born in 1970 so I got to experience Michael Jackson in his prime and let me tell you everytime a MJ video came on people stopped what they were doing to watch it no one will ever be as big as Michael Jackson was
