  • I compared my son's Rtic 45 cooler to my recently purchased Coleman Marine Coastal Xtreme 40 qt. cooler. I loaded both coolers with one 2 liter bottle, 12 water bottles, and 20 lbs of ice. Then I checked them every 24 hours for the next four days.

HELPFUL TIP: If you want your cooler to last DAYS don't leave empty space, that's the worst thing you can do. Edit, don't drain your water either, unless you're putting more ice in.

Exactly, if you compare 2 coolers both of them should be filled up to ice fully rather than the same ammount of ice, because the air in one will give it a huge disadvantage.

I have a orca 20. Yeti 35. An rtic 65.. and a Colman Xtream it's 25 quart or so.. for the money difference the Xtream holds its own.

Coleman been stepping up the game that's why I'm going to go get one today I already got me a rtic 45, w lifetime 55. I would use those coolers to camp but here in South Texas I can go get me a 120 quart Coleman cooler for $40 and I can use that cooler to camp for 7 days

UPDATE: I filled two one-gallon bottles with 15 cups of water and froze them overnight. The next day, Friday, I put them into the pre-cooled cooler with four cold cans of Coke and put it in my vehicle to go camping. A couple of hours later I added a 10 lb. bag of ice, a cold small milk, and a cold pack of sausage dogs.
I opened the cooler a few times Friday evening and Saturday. Sunday afternoon I took the cooler out of my vehicle, brought it inside, and removed the remaining Cokes and dogs. On Monday, mid-day, I took the (at least still half full) ice bag out.
Today, Tuesday, I poured off the (still pretty cold) water from each bottle. One had 13 and 1/2 cups; the other had 12 cups. So, four days after putting them in the cooler, there was still one and 1/2 cups of ice in one bottle, and two cups of ice in the other.

Enjoyed the review. However, to make your ice last longer you should not drain the water out unless adding more ice to the existing ice. I do agree that for the price, you can't beat the coleman. I did get a thirst for a cold drink while watching your video. Keep up the great work.

good test. Thanks for taking the time.
I got a 28qt coleman marine and I was wondering why it wouldn't hold ice for even a day. rated for 3 days.
Guess I'm doing something wrong :/

Thank you so much for this. They are comparable, in my opinion. You saved me from dumping $250 on an Rtic to replace my Coleman coastal Extreme. The ice ratio is clearly the key.

Who uses a cooler when it is raining in the mid-50s? In weather like that, you should be testing propane heaters.

old Row is an online page for greek life especially. His point is that the Rtic and Yeti coolers are very trendy in design even though they may not always be practical buys to the competition.

Wish I had seen this review sooner. I bought my Coleman back in 2015, don’t have anything bad to say about it but I have been wanting to upgrade it to an Rtic or Yeti. Ordered one (Rtic45) last weekend and should be arriving this Friday. If you kept monitoring the ice, do you think the Rtic would have lasted another day with whatever ice was left in there?

When you ask if "the Rtic would have lasted another day" what exactly do you mean?

    • @pNoid2k1
      @pNoid2k1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Randy Jeffery Well, it seems like the ice melt comparison between the two coolers has ended on day 4. @09:20 the RTIC still had some ice in it. Do you think it was enough to keep the beverages cold for another 24hours?

Cool perhaps, but I don't think cold. At the end of the 4th day there was only 1" of ice, maybe inside the Rtic. I think the ice would be pretty much gone by the 5th day.
Now, I didn't have one of those fancy laser temperature gauges to check the temp of the bottles, or the inside of the cooler. All I could do was compare the water runoff and the relative level of the ice.
And, I didn't pre-cool the coolers or the drinks either. If the Rtic is better insulated, then in theory, if you got the interior cold to start with, it should maintain that temperature longer, right?
I hope your Rtic is good for you (unless the seller has a generous return policy). I think the Coleman will work well for my intended use (vehicle camping for 3-4 days in the fall or winter mostly, and ice replacement available if needed).
