When Rhaenys bursts out of the ground on her dragon, I thought of that line: “there’s a beast beneath the boards”.

@@thenaberius6081 Both of your interpretation can be true...That prophecy can be interpreted in many ways and all of them categorically true...I believe mine to be truer....I think the "beast beneath the boards" are all the Greens because all of them are hiding their beastly intent and once the King is dead they all come out of their boards and do the "beasting"...You can see that Helaena look disgusted at Alicent while she was telling it....She even slap Alicent hands cause she want no part of it.....

This is clearly what the line was in reference to. They had her repeat the line again this episode just to underline it. It doesn’t make sense narratively from a storytelling perspective to have that “prophecy” extend past this episode. They can now move on to the next one, whatever they decide that will be
I think Rhaenys showed a mother's mercy purely for the sake of Alicent. But damn, what a missed opportunity, if I were Rhaenyra I'd be so pissed off. The entire war could've been avoided in one move, and Rhaenys will regret that.

I think the showrunners wanted protrait a strong female, but by lack of examples, they made a dumb one.

Last week in the meeting with Veamond when they were discussing the succession of driftmark, there were no marbles on the table. It's more of a physical indicator to us, the audience as to which of the dealings are above board, and which are more back room dealings.

But I also think Otto doesn't believe alicent claim but loves that she is ready to play ball even though she immediately shows Otto that she still thinks she can play this game without getting her hands dirty! You have to be all in or not at all! I think him telling her she looks like her mother was shade to say she is a simple minded woman that doesn't have what it takes! Or maybe thinking it will through her off mentally by getting emotional
Rhaenys really won me over with the mocking bow from dragonback, paraphrasing so much of her earlier conversation with the Queen in a single gesture. Also, it was deeply gratifying to witness such a spectacular jack-in-the- box reveal, after all that low-key winding up about being separated from her dragon.
She’s my favorite character so far. Keeps her cards close, and only reveals her badass side when it’s called for. Plus, she’s likely the only non psychopath left alive at this point of the story!
I personally think that King Viserys said what he said assuming it was Princess Rhaenyra at his side since he was referring to the Prophecy of Aegon the Conqueror which he only told Princess Rhaenyra.

Absolutely loved the opening scene with the quiet castle. I'm a baker, always up before the dawn and felt like this is where I'd have been. This show and it's details are just magnificent.
During Rhaenys' conversation with Alicent while kept prisoner, Alicent explicitly stated that she wanted no harm to come to Rhaenyra or a her children. In this context, Rhaenys believed her and stopped once Alicent stepped in front of Aegon. It is clear to see that Rhaenys understood that Alicent meant her no ill will; hence her being spared when face to face with a dragon.
8:22 the same motif is utilized during this episode, primarily at the beginning. As the camera pans through the quiet castle, we are treated to a doorway shot, framing two windows within it, divided by a piller, a delightful visual cue to the divide within one house, the blacks and the greens. We also see the same cue again when Alicent is trading words with her father, demanding that Rhaenyra be called in and not harmed and further asserting her authority over matters on Aegon's rule on the throne, with either standing on opposite sides of the window (16:30), showing a divide between her and Otto's grip on power.
Westerling ,and cole have a long simmering beef with one another. I'm hoping they cross swords in the future would be an epic scene.
Westerling should be dead . And Cole dies near the end . So I assume he kills Westerling

It's ironic with Rhaenis sparring greens but totally crushing the common folk with no care. As in she, as an upper, royal class doesn't view these beneath heras living humans, but more as a casualty 🤔
That’s an interesting thing about the series so far, small folk or really anybody that isn’t in the top circles of the elites, are completely incidental to any of the characters. They literally walk all over them.

Rhaenys just wanted to gave the greens a warning and a declaration of war: they dare to treat The Queen that should be like a prisioner and this are the consecuences.
Her entrance reminds me of a similar scene from Attack on Titan Season 4 ("Declaration of war"); since it didnt happened in the books, may be the showrunners took inspiration from it
Now we have to believe dragons are also wrecking balls that can just hulk smash a stone cavern? How was daenerys able to keep her's chained up?

I believe Rheanys didn’t kill the Hightowers, rather showed them a warning glance what they are going to face: united dragon fire of Valeryons and Targaryens.
It’s just dumb and out of character. The greens have dragons too. Why wait and give the greens a chance to do any more damage and kill any more lords who dont bend the knee? The writers made her go full retard in this scene. A better scene would have been that the greens escape though some secret door and get to a safe place. What does Rhaenys think the consequences of letting the greens live? They have the entire kings army and the knee bent of the noble lords. She even saw the noble lords who did not bend the knee hanging from the rafters for Gods sake. That scene is just stupid. No intelligent, wise and experienced dragon lord
Like Rhaenys would ever let greens live in this situation. It’s out of character and nonsense. It reminds me of when the joker or a villain has Batman and Robin and has to tell them how he is going kill them, and walks away so Batman can get free and escape...every time.
This writing harkens back to GOT season 8 where intelligent wise characters do stupid things that make no sense.

Rhaenys could have ended the war before it even began right there. One dracarys ,and meleys would have laid fire upon them mercy....it was mercy that saved allicent and aegon it will be mercy too that will be the downfall of rhaeny, and meyleys.

I think Rhaenys spared them because she wanted to give them a final warning. They are family after all and killing them all would have been a too drastic jump from how things were just a while ago.

Agreed people are really hating on the scene just cause she didn’t wipe em out. Personally I thought she would, this being GoT, but was hoping she didn’t because like you said it would have been way too drastic. I think for non book readers (like myself) the scene is great and necessary. Kinda like a “This means war” moment and it really makes the whole ending a lot more powerful. Simply flying away on her dragon peacefully to warn Rhaenyra doesn’t create the hype or emotion that’s needed to explain just how big of a No No this whole thing was. Just my thought though
I agree with the idea that this was a power move, showing that she was a force to be reckoned with - and that true power does not come from a name or a title. Besides, she's not in love with Rhaenyra/Damon either, given what she believes they did. Why should she do things to benefit them? Rhaenys' house is strongest standing on its own, rather than being solely on Team Hightower or Team Targaryen.
Heleana is the queen of spoilers! Love what they have done with her character.

Agreed but them denying him love, affection, attention, respect, affirmation is probably what made him so depraved! Although it could have been the pressure of Otto and his mom wanting the crown for him and him understanding early on that heavy is the head that wears the crown.... Anyway, it's evident once he received that praise and respect from his subjects that being starved from it has created in him a lust and greed for it! They will not be able to control his reign! He will be what he has always been, just on steroids, O.D level! He will over do and in revenge like fashion his use of power in demanding to be worshiped, obeyed and to openly be as depraved as he wants to be! They will end up having to dethrone him rather quickly I think! He didn't make for a good king when he didn't want it and will make for an even worse king now that he does want it!

Aemond is sharp, smart, great warrior, true King material.

All that underhanded plotting, sneaking, and murder to put Aegon on the throne, ordering Rheanyra and her family’s death, locking up Rheanys, forcing the Lords to comply or else, and it fails to dawn on Alicent she is in the wrong. You don’t have to do that shady shit when you are doing the right thing. If Rhaenyra were a tyrant, maybe, but she was the rightful heir and didn’t nothing to wrong the realm. Alicent was just pissed Rhaenyra got some good D, and so did Laenor.
Not to mention Otto is doing the very thing Alicent was convinced Rhaenyra was going to do, slaughter the other side to shore up their claim. To say I hate the hypocritical Greens and Hightowers, is an understatement. Rhaenys should have been Queen, and none of this frickery would have happened

Hello…I wanted to share with you and others the purpose of the Glass Ball & Holder! There is supposed to be a Holder for the Glass Ball in front of each individual, if not then a Holder that can move person to person! When a person has the Glass Ball it means it’s they’re time to speak and NO OTHER is permitted to speak/interrupt/nothing!!!!
When they’re done they give the Glass Ball to another when they put the Glass Ball In the Holder it means they are speaking and NoBody can interrupt!!! Works really well so there’s no cross talking!! Guess they were pretty smart even back then in Westeros!! Lol lol

Personally, I also see Rhaenys not instantly vaporizing the greens being related to hoping for a peaceful resolution*- something that would be complicated by just killing them all, which the realm in general would take offense to. (I also doubt that Rhaenys would want to become a kinslayer if she thought it may not be necessary)
*(since initially, the Dance was more about getting enough support for the other side to back down- which was changed by events we'll be seeing next week)

I think that Rhaenys's decision not to kill the Greens is interesting from two points. The first is it's literally her making a decision about whether or not to kill a king, and (I may be wrong on who said this) Shakespeare held "Tis no small thing, to kill a king". However, you know it will backfire because, as Ralph Walso Emerson says "When you strike at a king, you must kill him.".
I don't think it's anything to do with not killing another mother. How many of the people in the arena were mothers, or children. I think it's to do with succession, family, and power. Rhaenys is trying to avoid war and her conversation with Alicent suggests that there is a way to avoid war. She hopes that there will not be civil war. This is borne out by the fact that after she was denied the throne, she retired to Driftmark and did not go to war with Viserys. She is making the same decision. The throne isn't hers, and she won't kill people over it.
Thank you for your always fun reviews. Rhaenys boss entrance was so awesome. I thought that she’s trying to show them what they’re doing is wrong, a big lie and treason. She’s not having it and though she spared them she killed a pile of innocent people. Mixed feelings

I also think it’s weird - the Alicent Criston interaction BUT it makes sense she knows Criston feels something for her (as she’s been his savior and confident) and she’s using his devotion to her advantage - leading him on just as she does with Larys (letting him get off on her feet) so she can get what she needs. She’s clearly not above using men’s desires to get scraps of what she really needs within this terrible male dominated world

The actress who played younger Alicent stated a scene was cut where she confronts Rhanyra about seducing Criston since Rhanyra knew that Alicent had feelings for him. Which explains why she went total Green imo

Don't forget that Jaehaerys and Jaehaera have 6 fingers on their hands and 6 toes on the feet. That is why their sigils are hands with extra fingers.
Rheanys is free at last when she flew out of the dragon pit, while Alicent, the one who thought she could be free from man’s manipulations, still remained in the same cage. This episode showed so many metaphors of scenes that Alicent was still trapped in the prison out of her own wills. And personally, I think the way Otto told Alicent how much she was alike to her mother, is not a praise, but a sarcasm that no matter what she think she is doing, she is still one part of this unbroken wheel. (The one both Rhaenyra and Daenerys hope to break)

I think Rhaenys not killing the greens was 2 things, firstly it's not her fight .. It's Rhaenyra's , another one is her show of power.. In this singular moment she showed the greens.. That she had all the power to end them.. Something that will lead to much bigger consequences.. But oh well.. Good tv for us. 😂
I think you are right. It wasn't her fight. If Rhaenys had killed the greens it would not have been a justified act of war, it would have been straight up murder for which she would have to be held accountable. Even tho the act would have given Rhaenyra the throne, Rhaenyra would not be able to sheild Rhaenys from justice, lest Rhaenyra look culpable.
Probably a VERY bad sign when you decide to ursurp the throne and start killing people off
I thought it was amazing how this show in one episode had us virtually routing for kids fighting in a near catacomb, leading to Aemond's lost eye, and in a subsequent episode emploring us to be outraged at kids fighting in a pit. I felt I could pretend to act like these people betting on these kids fighting were less than me somehow, but I really was into the first fight without personal stakes to justify my enthusiam.
@Bla Bla You are so right. I shouldn't feel wrong about routing for Aemond to get his behind kicked by the other children. Yes he is just a kid, but he has a mother who loves him and cares for him. She can care for him well after gets assaulted and loses an eye. Those other children don't have anyone who truly cares for them after they get into a fight. I personally wish I could include embryos and fetuses in my gambling for which kids will win fights, because premature kids have proved to be particularly lethal to many folks, not just other children.

They wanted to give her a boss moment without ending the show. That's what happened. Because she killed a few dozen mothers when she broke through the floor. And she doesn't need to discuss what side to be on because if she'd said "dracarys" right then her granddaughter would be Queen. Now her granddaughter will be a soldier in a war. Anyone with an ounce of sense knows Rhaenys would have fried those fuckers and ended the Dance of Dragons then and there.
This is the second time one of their changes from the book has defied all logic. Like Criston still being alive after beating Joffrey to death rather than it being a possible accident at a tourney. You don't kill a dragon rider's love and then live in the same castle with him for ten years and not end up dragon poop. That just wouldn't happen.

I think the reason why Otto says to Alicent that she reminds him of her mother is so he can manipulate her. Their relationship has been strained since her passing and because his wife/Alicent's mother is the only thing that kept them close, he uses that to his advantage to have her trust him. Obviously Otto's plan doesn't work because the last time someone used the death of a mother on Alicent she was fooled and played by Rhaenyra.
