Hmm, I used an adze like that not to long ago, belonged to my older brother who carves, I think he said Loren White made them or Steve Brown.Cool to see him using one too. Awesome work, Thanks for posting and sharing.
It was nice to hear of his positive experience with boarding schools. Sadly we only hear how indigenous kids were "stolen" from their families and cultures.
of course there were positive experiences but that doesn’t negate the fact that these children were indeed forced to go to these schools, and in a sense yes, they were stolen from their land and culture. joe david was one of the lucky few who was able to piece his culture back together and use the knowledge he learned in residential school to fuel his artistic expression. he was lucky he didn’t end up dead or harshly abused like some of my Nisga’a relatives.
So many more were damaged by the residential schools. The South African apartheid system was based on the Canadian reserve and pass system - much to Canada’s shame.
@@cringetingles I don't deny facts it is you that is doing that. Some found residential schools to be a positive experience. I have a friend who joined the army and he found a home there. I would have hated it. I had a loving family and he came from a poor overcrowded family that dealt with regular violence. People and situations are different. A wise person doesn't paint with one brush.
I don’t have the words to convey how much I appreciate Joe David’s skill and artistry.
Beautiful and amazing culture and carvings. Life's of the past carved and sculpted in wood. What wonderful stories they tell.
This speaks to my heart, thank you so much for sharing.

Just back here in May of 2021 to make sure your comment is aging like milk in the hot sun, Bill. Don’t deny the facts.
