The interviewer asked whether this would have any lasting effect, or could change anything, and all I can say is that I am probably someone who is guilty of being caught up in the pursuit of career any my own goals, i'd say I have neglected my neighbour/family at times and not always made myself free to others, and to be honest this past (mental) year I have found myself being more sceptical in my thoughts regarding what the needs of others really were and whether they deserved what they got. But after watching this film the other night, it really started to make me think about the way things are in this society that we live in, some of the consequences of our capitalist goals, and while I confess it hasn't turned me into mother Teresa, in the few nights since i've watched the film, I've walked through Dublin town on my way home, and each time I walked past a homeless person on my way, where I would normally keep going or give some excuse when asked for some change, I stopped and turned back to give them the bit that I did have in my pocket. I looked across the street last night and watched the guards move a chap away from the spot where he was begging near a bank ATM, and I just thought isn't it hilarious that the police hassle a chap who has nothing, while paying no attention to the people on the other side of the ATM wall, the unscrupulous executives and shareholders who benefit off this unfair economic system that we live in. So i just bought him a coffee, he refused politely anyway, but what else could I do.

This film isn't a work of fiction. It is a work of truth. The truth of what is really happening to the most vulnerable in society and it needs to be understood that ordinary people who do nothing to put a stop to it are as much to blame as the corrupt politicians, industrialists and fat cat bankers. Just think that the set of circumstances in Daniel's life (and subsequent death) can happen to any normal citizen at any time. The whole point of the benefits system is to put a safety net in place to prevent this kind of thing happening and this film clearly demonstrates that very system is failing because it is "target" driven and not "people" driven. We all have a duty to one another as human beings to do what we can to help those in times of need. The most poignant aspect of this film was the fact that the character of Daniel (whilst fighting his own battle with the system) still had enough humanity within him to help others. I wonder how many "normal" people would be prepared to do the same.
