I am a monarchist for the only reason that it distinguishes us from the United States. I the love the idea of having a Head of State that is not a politician.
You can hardly imagine the optimism in Canada at that time. It may have been single greatest accomplishment of those years, leaving us with rich sense of possibility that, despite our best efforts, we still haven’t quite exhausted. May it return again.
I am from Quebec and I was even a separatist in my youth. but I have always respected and admired the monarchy and England because England never abandoned its children to a foreign power like France did in 1763 by abandoning "its few acres of snow" and 70,000 French Canadians in exchange from the island of Guadeloupe. Dieu sauve notre reine !
@@carlosmpsenyorcapitacollon6977 because I believe that 2 referendums are enough. This greatly divides families and society. and anyway I think it's too late. There are many emigrants in Quebec and to win a referendum it would be necessary for at least 75% of Quebecers of French origin to vote for separation. It's way too much.

From the States (I grew up in Rochester, NY and have relatives in Ontario)...maybe you know of this: There was once a version of "O Canada" used at sign off, sung with a BILLINGUAL children's chorus. The British do not "make" Commonwealth realms. Each member of the Commonwealth is an independent nation and most were, at one time, British colonies. Upon achieving independence they can choose to retain the British monarch as their head of state or become a republic with a president at the head. The monarch of the UK is also the monarch of 15 Commonwealth countries by their choice and their title is Queen or King of Canada. Australia, New Zealand etc. They can change this status at any time just as Barbados has recently done.. Loida, try not to comment on things that you do not understand.
do this and you will feel in your skin what it is like to be forgotten and stolen by the government, Brazil wants to abolish the republic and return to the monarchy because the people are already tired of being extorted and forgotten by the Presidents, they only show up in electoral years and make promises and never keep any more than stealing money for parties, BELOW THE BRAZILIAN REPUBLIC!

It will never return if the west remains liberal and rejects conservatism and traditionalism
Because? :D

These films were used by CBC British Columbia during sign-on and sign-off back in 1979!
They were used coast to coast, not just B.C.

What a snappy arrangement.

It's good, but it's no Maple Leaf Forever
Maple Leaf Forever is wonderful. I'm still on the lookout to find a traditional rendition of this set to video...if one exists.
After this you have to get up to avoid that humming noise....
