I've found at all of the James gigs I've been to and will for as long as I can you are on point with that. Their songs and music brings out feelings within you that not many bands can. They have a cult like following and a broad range of appeal at the same time. The music evokes memories good ,and bad. And that's the sign of a band that will go down in history. One of the best Manchester bands.
“I believe this wave will bear my weight so let it flow”. I put this line on the first page of my calendar book every year. Just to remind myself everything’s going to be fine.
My grandad always asked me to play this song when I was doing pub gigs. Without fail, he’d always ask for it. We lost him 5 years ago and played this version at his funeral. This is the first time I’ve listened to it in 5 years, and it’s as beautiful as ever. Thank you James.
Beautiful version- I am 45 now and this song has seen me through. Danced to it at a gig in the 90s, at my wedding in the 00s and when I was going through treatment for cancer 2 years ago. It’s just perfect.
I’m in a really similar boat. 44 and this song has seen me through so much. Just discovered this orchestral version and wow. It’s going on my playlist for when I start my next round of infusions. But I’ll probably listen to it a dozen times before then. I hope you got to ring that bell and are all clear now!
Have told my kids I want this song whatever version played at my funeral As a teenager of late 80' and a young man in the 90's I don't think we realised what a classic this would become! Im a terrible singer and have never done Karaoke until recently. My son said when I sung this I got everyone up singing and a standing ovation at the pub, was about 3/4 pished at that point 😂 Son said that was awesome Da, I replied Wasnt me son , was just a great song with great lyrics and a true classic! Don't you just love Dutch courage 😉
I hated this when it came out in the 90s, i just heard it everywhere and didn't listen beyond the chorus... But i realised later, its so incredibly beautiful. Just astounding. Im very late to the party, but better late than never... 🙂
Not only the best version of this EPIC song !!!I really think James is probably the most underrated English band in the last 50 years....This mans ability to speak the gospel here is amazing!!!I say if you don't get this song the emotion, the love and what this MASTERPIECE is about,IGNORANCE IS BLISS!!!
This just sent my daughter off to sleep. Like a lovely lullaby. Shes currently suffering from covid-19 (shes okay by the way). Just allowed to drift off after a day feeling a bit rubbish. Snoring loudly now.
This is my very ,very favourite song. The words are inspirational, the music is beautiful, and as for the singing…… it goes without saying he is the greatest. Thank you, sir , for giving me and the rest of the world such beauty, you will be always honoured for this. As one who believes “God exists”, may yours bless you. XXXX
Your walking the earth, you won the lottery, enjoy our brief time here and have no regrets or worries, for we all go back to dust. dont cry for regret ever.
I have alot of versions of this song...i think this is by far the best version of it,I love what he did with it the tempo, the passion put forth here just EPIC!!!
I work in the healthcare field. I LOVE my career! To aid amazing people in their dark times, in sad times, in confusing times is my life. Thank you for your understanding and kindness💗No matter our way..... artistically or in the field... I believe we can make a difference👍 This song, these words
I sing myself to sleep A song from the darkest hour Secrets I can't keep In sight of the day Swing from high to deep Extremes of sweet and sour Hope that God exists I hope, I pray Drawn by the undertow My life is out of control I believe this wave will bear my weight So let it flow Oh sit down (sit down) Oh sit down (sit down, sit down) Oh sit down (sit down) Sit down next to me Sit down, down (sit down, sit down) Down, down, down (sit down, sit down) In sympathy Now I'm relieved to hear That you've been to some far out places It's hard to carry on When you feel all alone Now I've swung back down again And it's worse than it was before If I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor Oh sit down (sit down) Oh sit down (sit down, sit down) Oh sit down (sit down) Sit down next to me Sit down, down (sit down, sit down) Down, down, down (sit down, sit down) In sympathy Those who feel the breath of sadness Sit down next to me Those who find they're touched by madness Sit down next to me Those who find themselves ridiculous Sit down next to me In love, in fear, in hate, in tears In love, in fear, in hate, in tears In love, in fear, in hate, in tears In love, in fear, in hate Down Down Oh sit down (sit down) Oh sit down (sit down, sit down) Oh sit down (sit down) Sit down next to me Sit down, down (sit down, sit down) Down, down, down (sit down, sit down) In sympathy Oh sit down (sit down) Oh sit down (sit down, sit down) Oh sit down (sit down) Sit down next to me Sit down, down (sit down, sit down) Down, down, down (sit down, sit down) In sympathy Down
What I absolutely love about music videos on TH-cam is that every day you come across gems like this !! Thankyou Tim Booth and James for giving us this beautiful song, and a stunning performance here, an all time classic that will remain forever. It's my karaoke song !! :-)
Love this song, got me through the last year and half, the thought of singing this surrounded by by fellow st Helens rugby fans as we did before the world went to 💩 kept me going. Finally got my little dream ti come last week, and boy what a moment it was.
Tim your voice is as beautiful as ever and one of the best in the music business up there with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin and Sam Cooke. You guys have produced such wonderful music which I discovered in my late 20s during my PhD in Developmental Biology. Your music has stood the test of time and always will. Peace and love from Bradford. What a great version of Sit Down with the strings section!!!
Absolute heart song since I was 19. I love and feel this version deeply, even at 51. My life is out of control and in my mind I sit down next to you. I'm never alone. Thanks for this extraordinary feeling❤ Blessings from Germany

The only song I've ever found comfort in. The lyrics are incredibly apt & tie in perfectly with the feelings I've collected from the more challenging chapters of my life. The song feels like my song - it perfectly personifies everything I've endured & enjoyed throughout my life & yes, a tear rolls down my cheek everytime I listen.
I found this song via Coldplay and I am so grateful for it. "If I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor" Thanks for this song. Coldplays sample of it has gotten me through some hard times but this song is a beacon of light
Ive listened to this masterpiece every week since I first heard it in 1991. I was in my car when it came on, went into my record shop and there was the cd single which I still have. Proudly own every album and almost every single. Living in Adelaide it took until 2018 to finally see them live. It was surreal. Cant wait fo the new album 4th June 2021.
Rediscovering this song in the last couple of days. This version is awesome. Happy to see that the text code for donations is still operational. Well worth a few quid just for this beautiful performance
Wow, shocked I did not come across this before. One of my favorite groups growing up. Such a deep and reflective song. Love it. Joe is a national treasure
I love how different this is from the Be Opened By The Wonderful version. I like that one better (I love the cello) but I’m glad I got to hear this, and I’ll come back to it.
Pure class. Music that means something, music that reaches into your soul and grabs it, lyrics that tug at your heartstrings stretching them to breaking point, that stir memories you want to remember but also forget.. not just commercial bullshit that all sounds the same as if you've heard it a million times after listening to it once - and then forgetting it right after.
Really pleased to support this charity, thanks to Tim for asking me to get involved. Storm Emma makes the text donate seem even more relevant TEXT MAH 70004 TO GIVE £3 TO CRISIS
Reading all your comments I'm pretty sure about one thing...only good and decent people love James. Period
This.
Probably the best lyrics I've ever heard in a song, "if I hadn't seen such riches I could live with being poor" is incredibly deep.
That's a great line we all can relate
You are right. M.
We do a music club and this week's theme is lyrics so here I am, especially sharing this version.
I use it in everyday life!
“I believe this wave will bear my weight so let it flow”. I put this line on the first page of my calendar book every year. Just to remind myself everything’s going to be fine.
This song reminds me that I’m not alone 🙏🏻
My grandad always asked me to play this song when I was doing pub gigs. Without fail, he’d always ask for it.
We lost him 5 years ago and played this version at his funeral. This is the first time I’ve listened to it in 5 years, and it’s as beautiful as ever.
Thank you James.

Played at my mother's funeral in my head
My father passed away on November 15th, he was a beautiful man as is this a beautiful song. My grief is overwhelming but I find comfort in this song.
I hated this when it came out in the 90s, i just heard it everywhere and didn't listen beyond the chorus... But i realised later, its so incredibly beautiful. Just astounding. Im very late to the party, but better late than never... 🙂
Been singing myself for nearly 30 years now, my life has been well out of control since we lost you Kie, love you eternally, xxxxx
I'm still sitting down next to you all. Love

i think i first heard this song when i was 12? 36 years old now and this song still gives me comfort ❤️
This just sent my daughter off to sleep. Like a lovely lullaby. Shes currently suffering from covid-19 (shes okay by the way). Just allowed to drift off after a day feeling a bit rubbish. Snoring loudly now.

This song will always have a special place in my heart. I cry for my lost youth.
So sorry to hear about your lost youth. You must be a lovely person if you love this song. Stay strong. M.
Don't do that. Wear it with pride.
Your walking the earth, you won the lottery, enjoy our brief time here and have no regrets or worries, for we all go back to dust. dont cry for regret ever.
Is and always will be an anthem from and for the heart. You either get it or just dance to it.
I get it I felt like this was wrote for me. From my nan.
It was the 80s. I was watching MTV and seen sit down live… The next day I bought the LP Gold Mother… The rest is history…
One of my favourite songs. And this version is stunning. Thank you.
I have alot of versions of this song...i think this is by far the best version of it,I love what he did with it the tempo, the passion put forth here just EPIC!!!

Beautifull
I love this version so much… I flew to England for the Orchestral tour- I knew I COULD NOT MISS!
I did too, from Seattle, on short notice. The most expensive concert I’ve ever been to, and worth every penny and more.
Tim, this is beautiful. I have always have been a massive fan of James. Your music is phenomenal and I wish your and your group all the best.
This song stirs the deepest of emotions in me and will forever make me think of those who need somebody.
First heard this as a kid and now at 42 I can honestly say that it has shaped how I am and how I treat others.
I sing myself to sleep
A song from the darkest hour
Secrets I can't keep
In sight of the day
Swing from high to deep
Extremes of sweet and sour
Hope that God exists
I hope, I pray
Drawn by the undertow
My life is out of control
I believe this wave will bear my weight
So let it flow
Oh sit down (sit down)
Oh sit down (sit down, sit down)
Oh sit down (sit down)
Sit down next to me
Sit down, down (sit down, sit down)
Down, down, down (sit down, sit down)
In sympathy
Now I'm relieved to hear
That you've been to some far out places
It's hard to carry on
When you feel all alone
Now I've swung back down again
And it's worse than it was before
If I hadn't seen such riches
I could live with being poor
Oh sit down (sit down)
Oh sit down (sit down, sit down)
Oh sit down (sit down)
Sit down next to me
Sit down, down (sit down, sit down)
Down, down, down (sit down, sit down)
In sympathy
Those who feel the breath of sadness
Sit down next to me
Those who find they're touched by madness
Sit down next to me
Those who find themselves ridiculous
Sit down next to me
In love, in fear, in hate, in tears
In love, in fear, in hate, in tears
In love, in fear, in hate, in tears
In love, in fear, in hate
Down
Down
Oh sit down (sit down)
Oh sit down (sit down, sit down)
Oh sit down (sit down)
Sit down next to me
Sit down, down (sit down, sit down)
Down, down, down (sit down, sit down)
In sympathy
Oh sit down (sit down)
Oh sit down (sit down, sit down)
Oh sit down (sit down)
Sit down next to me
Sit down, down (sit down, sit down)
Down, down, down (sit down, sit down)
In sympathy
Down
Can someone explain how anyone can downvote a song as beautiful as this...
No , sorry I can't. Because I don't understand how a brain like that works. And to be perfectly honest, I don't want to.
