  • On the way to Cape Town, we did a 3 day stop in Kenya, and visited the Masai Mara Natural Park.
Wonderfully organised by Wildbeests Safaris, our guide Dennis managed to show us all the BIG 5.
Check out some of the footage done using DJI Mavic Pro and iPhone 6

    Great video!
You do realize there are several minutes of black screen at the end.

Very nice video. Some shots appeared a bit soft in focus. Did you tap to focus on before taking the footage?

It was my first experience with the drone.. and what i realised is that in some situations you're so freaked out, that you forget to tap to focus!
I already have on the customizable button! cheers

Hi, how were you able to get permission to fly a drone in Kenya? I recently bought a Mavic too, for an upcoming trip to Kenya but was devastated to learn that drones aren't allowed there.

Yeahhh!! Well.. it's really difficult! I guess u need to have someone on the inside (goverment)..
Maybe when no one is watching? :)
Just make sure you don't fly to close to the animals..
I heard that last week in Lake Nakuro 2 guys were arrested! They eventually let them out..but confiscated the micro-usb.

Hey there! I live in Tanzania and have a Mavic Pro (finally!) coming in a few weeks, hopefully lol. Anyways how was the reception out there? Obviously not too bad! My biggest concern other than just being a noobie to drone flying is the actual satellite reception. I'm afraid I'll lose connection and crash :/ What was your experience like with that? Thanks!

      Hey Mark..
      Congrats on your new Mavic!
Just remember.. it's not allowed to fly in Masai Mara. So, if you do so.. make sure you're alone, and make sure you don't disturb the animals.
As per satellite reception, it was always connected to 14/16 Sats! No problem there..

Thanks for the super quick reply!! I definitely don't want to mess around with getting arrested or anything so I'll avoid national parks altogether, as awesome as that would be. Hopefully we'll just get some footage of where we live (Moshi, at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro) and share it with our subscribers & families :) Since I live here I'm hoping to find some spots to launch from that won't get us caught just in case lol! Super glad to hear about the solid connection too! I saw someone flying a Phantom 3 the other day which gave me hope... now hoping for the best, assuming DJI actually delivers that thing haha! Take care and thanks again!

Good news - my Mavic arrived in America! My mother in law is bringing it when she comes but she's nervous that it's going to get taken away in the airport. What was your experience? And did you bring everything with you on the plane? Did anyone give you a hard time?

      Hey Mark..
Better to bring it with you on the plain. Battery and everything..
Just like you'd do with your laptop! Cheers

      iPhone 6
Sometimes i putted the camera behind a binocular, to get a better zoom.

Great video! I was wondering If it was Ok to take your drone into Kenya without approval? I can't find a policy about drone regulation :(

Hey Lucy! Sorry for late reply..
It's not ok unfortunately.. in some cases you can even go to prison.
Right now you need a license from the President..

Joli mais ... drône strictement interdit au Kenya (qui plus est dans les parcs nationaux) sous peine d'arrestation et forte amende, en plus de la confiscation du drone .Votre guide aurait du vous le dire... Vous avez eu beaucoup de chance.
