Spring Wheat Breeding and Foundation Seed in Yuma Arizona with Dr Jason Cook

Montana State University’s (MSU) wheat breeding programs remain hard at work throughout the winter months. The Montana Wheat and Barley Committee was able to join Dr. Jason Cook in Yuma Arizona to see the importance of double cropping in plant breeding and foundation seed. Nestled in the Yuma Valley a few miles from the U.S.-Mexico border is a town claimed as the “Sunniest City on Earth”. Vegetables, herbs, citrus, spicy food, and you guessed it, wheat, and barley PLANT BREEDING. Fed by the Colorado River this valley is most widely known for its identity-preserved desert durum.
