- This is the all-new Tesla Roadster. The car was unveiled at a special event at Tesla’s headquarter in california which felt more like an Apple iPhone reveal than a new car unveil. It
is powered by three electric motors - one driving the front wheels and two driving the back - giving an incredible 10,000nm of wheel torque
Apparently the new Tesla Roadster can get from 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds and 0-100 in just 4.2 seconds while top speed is over 250mph.

Zahari Stoyanov 10kNm extremely good, taking into account it is a single gear car. That means you can have good start and high top speed at the same time. A typical sports car doing 500Nm engine torque can achieve a 5kNm ( this for a 500mm wheel diameter is actually 2000kg-force which is a convenient unit for measuring forces) wheel torque in the first gear and this goes down to like 1.3 kNm in the fifth gear. Plus the torque curve doesn't start from 0 rpm as in tesla but from like 1500rpm.
But it's not like the higher spec models will have more power, right? Won't that make it slower?

Yes Tesla does have 10 000 Nm of torque but on the wheels. The motor torque has been multiplied by the gear ratio to get the wheel torque. So for an example if the Roadster gets the same gear ratio as Model S 9,73:1 the Roadster's would have 10 000Nm/9,73 = 1027 Nm of torque (757 lbft). I assume thought that the final ratio could be bit higher(less torq) to achieve the much higher top speed.
You cant compere this car to a Bugatti Chiron or any million+ dollar hyper car , 0-60 in 1.9 seconds 100 in 4.2 1/4 mile in 8.9 top speed 250mph for 200k!! If the claims are true it belongs in a category of its own ,a marvel of engineering .But what makes this car really a cut above any 8 second car ever built is the range ,620miles per charge !! If the claims are true this will be the best performance production vehicle ever built dollar per dollar.

I’m a little hesitant to call it a hypercar though because usually hypercars are limited edition and bespoke and high priced and appreciating assets, but this has hypercar specs so I’ll call this one borderline
I am a car lover and I love all cars including Koenigseggs and stuff... But Tesla here killed them. 200k and you get a car with hypercar performance. Runs fast, has a brutal acceleration and it's slick

I love the combustion engine but I love cars more. If you like the sound of cars rather than speed and acceleration you should be driving tractors. The new tesla roadster is an automotive feat and it's the biggest step in the right direction we have gotten to in a while, only something to celebrate

i couldn't give two shits about the sound. i want economy and performance. gas is insanely expensive in brazil and i would trade my car for an EV in a heartbeat if i could.
electricity is also very expensive here but i think it would still give me 5 times as much range per dollar in city drive as i get now.
(currently paying U$ 1,10 per liter of gas, and my car does about 7 km/l on average with mostly city driving)

Fyi, Tesla and also spacex had trouble getting people to join them in the beginning, even good suppliers for Tesla was hard to find in the early days, now that they have proven them self, good talent are joining them and suppliers are more willing to follow their demands, its not easy going from one side to the other, and without Elon, I dont think it would have been possible. At this point anyone could run Tesla and be successful, but few could get it to what it is.
This is why a lot of their wacky ideas gets to much attention, because the have proven them self, and why people who dont know the history dont get it.

I totally understand the allure of a roaring v8 (or v12, such as in the Aston Martins). I feel it myself.
But Teslas are the allure of the future. They might not be loud, but you get a palpable sense of excitement from everyone who drives the Model S or Model 3 for the first time. Also acceleration unlike any ICE car and options (over the air updates, vastly reduced maintenance costs, cutting edge technology) unheard of up to this point in automotive history.
So the answer is yes, we are car guys. Maybe just attributing different importance as to noise & all the gunky crap that comes off the back end of cars today!

Everyone is so pessimistic about the future. Cant you see what this will do for the future of the sportscar segment?! Everyone acts like the IC engine is death and not developing further. Wrong, most decent sportscars will have an Hybrid powertrain in the next few decades, that way we can keep the sound and bump up the performance, this is just as big as turbocharging was when it became common in the 90's, no one will care about emissions because most daily commuters will be all electric. This way, we can keep having those loud cars with unmatched performance, and who knows, maybe this means we even see some more NA sounding ICEs. Even if they ban emissions in the City, turn on the full EV mode and be done with it, however the ICE and electric motors working together will be epic, 918 style. Now we need for the small capacity engines to be even more tunned for performante and sound and the electric motors and batterys to be made lighter.

Release date is 2020, It's specs for release makes it the fastest for this current generation of cars. Unlikely that will continue to the case on the actual release date in 2020.

"Fastest production car " this statement is soo vague. Agera rs is the fastest of them all. But even 0-60 is called fastest. Imo it should be called "quickest".
Another point is that the car has yet to officially make any proof for the facts and it will come in 2020. So that would be future quickest production car. Not to mention hannessey F5 which might create new records till 2020.
My point is that we should talk about proven facts and what the car is achievable of doing today.

That Bugatti Chiron that hit 300mph? That car used to have a LIMITED top speed of 261mph, and after testing a modified version, they’re limiting it to 275mph for safety reasons.

what tyres will it use to put that 10k nm torque in the ground, what kind of chassis, brakes and suspension setup will it use to cope with 250mph and how heavy will it be with a 200 kw battery pack, i can see it doing the 0-60mph claim but i am skeptical about this car and the rest of its claim until it hits production
the new roadster may not need better tyres as the immense weight of the battery pack could press down enough to give it the grip it needs xD

Objectively, the electric car is better. 0-60 in 1.9s and 0-100 in 4.2s are insane numbers. But subjectively, the V10 noise from an Audi R8 will always sound better than a silent electric supercar. Elon Musk and his company is amazing but I know which one I'd prefer.

Whatever one might say, they got the proportions right, really good stance and a design that seams like it can endure some time. If these 0-60 times holds water, well not much will be able to keep up at the traffic lights.

The regera however has a LIMITED top speed of over 255mph. If it says it’s LIMITED, it’s scary. You know you can unlock the true top speed of the Regera when you fly the car to Angelholm and ask Koenigsegg to do VERY STRINGENT checks
the car is great, no doubt but instead of making sports cars that no one will buy, I think he should focus on making a car that's around 15 grand so that more people will actually be able to afford one.

10kNm is extremy good especially taking into account it doesn't have a gearbox. A normal 500Nm engine torque cam do like 5kNm of wheel torque but only in the first gear.

This sounds to good to be true...idk I got the feeling Tesla should fully focus on the Model 3 since this is the car which will Teslas future, not some ludicrous McLaren HyperCar or some Truck which is probably gonna be to expensive for the highly competitive Logistics Market.

Tesla is doing really bad financially and can only get out of it's problems if they can make model 3 as quickly as posible. It's something like trust -> more money (from preorders + stocks) -> fast enough production -> money to make something diffrent

Correction, old roadster was not built by lotus. Tesla just bought prebuilt chassis as back then they did not have any manufacturing facilities, and basically bolted it together in their garage.

I think their advancement and work on the battery side and electric motor have been nothing short of brilliant, but I can't help but be a bit disappointed with the aesthetics, especially when I see a model s from the rear, as I don't see it looking much different from a Jaguar xf or even dare I say a modeo vignale.

I think this is more like Tesla's shot at making something great and revolutionary like the Mclaren F1, which will live on for generations and redefine hypercars of its era...by this what i mean is that after 30 years when we'll have electric hypercars doing prolly 0-60 under 1 second, this tesla roadster will be remembered and worshipped just like today's the Mclaren F1 which holds a special place in every car guy's heart, we'll miss the sound though
It wont only just be worshipped. It will also be driven...That's the difference. Tesla don't make cars just for redefining the car industry. They make them to be driven, or be automatically driven.

i suppose one thing that people forget is that it will be a long time before batteries will have a recharge rate similar to refilling a fuel tank, e.g. think about how long it takes just to charge your phone.

I don't think one should speak about cars performance until an actual release of the official car. Often there are concept cars that promise completely different numbers than the released vehicle.

Mate, this car is going to be released in 2020, Petrol cars will also have improved by then, and crucially, they haven't officially released an actual top speed, meaning it can't or they're trying to make it go faster the the Koenigseg agera rs. Also, I'm sorry but Telsa fanboys are the WORST type of car guy, go listen to the release video for this listen to the cult like screams from the crowd. And I know Tesla hasn't really done concept cars yet, but its not the first time they fail on a promise, that said, they've never been far off, if it can become the worlds fastest production car, then credit where credits due, but i guess we'll find out in a year or two

As for the electric vs gasoline debate,as for now,the gasoline seems the right choice(ofc ,depending on your preferances as well),but in 15-20 years ,the electric cars will be 100% the best choice,giving that the litre of gasoline will cost 10 - 20 times or even more than the prices now.
Gasoline is going to be half the price in 10 years for lack of demand, but batteries will be half the price, too.

It's faster then the Chiron only because the combo goes around 10000 Nm of torque. In that part, not surprises. It's quick 1.9 seconds. Then you say "it's fast" when the Chiron hasn't be tested in he's real form because the Chiron goes 260 MPH limited. Then who knows when the chiron goes for a new record. Obviously though, has strong and overpowered rivals to beat and those are RWD but for the AWD platform, Bugatti is still fastest in my opinion. No matter the weight if the Chiron is very heavy. Also you don't tell any info about weight. Probably for the body is lighter but has 3 electric motors. That tell a diferent story because the P100D is the quickest 4 door saloon to 0 to 60 but the car is heavy obviously. About 4960lbs stock. Diferent will be if this car can goes 270 or 280 MPH. Or perhaps will be the first road going car can go to a 300 MPH bench mark. That is my guess in a no longer future and it will be awesome to see that

Nice car but why is hydrogen technology not being developed just as electric is? we could keep the combustion engine going. I imagine a future where you take your old gasser and get it converted into a hydrogen engine without having to buy an electric car.

These figures and stats won't impress me until the electric cars incorporate the sound of V8 or V12 engines that its rivals produce! To put it in context, count the number of youtube videos where the anchor had said just starting the engine (c63 amg) put a huge smile on their face that's worth every penny.

to be honest you don't need super crazy fast to have fun as a car guy in my point of view its about fun in terms of build and drive so getting that car is like throwing the build just drive for me well i don't know if I'm going to have full satisfaction but I'm sure its fun car to drive

what I'm talking about is gasoline car is fun cause you have struggle with them i mean you remove the piston and assembly it back and everything so it's fun for me like electric car all you do with the car engine is remove the motor cover and brush the motor because of carbon so basically there is not much struggle on building the electric car than build gasoline car (I'm a fun of car build)
I really admire their work and the numbers they achive, the same goes for others like Rimac (patriotism rules hahaha) but there is no common sense in saying that tesla is a better car than porsche or ferrari and if someone needs to explain to you why then i don’t know why are we having this conversation
