    so many times companies use borderline acceptable components to save a penny and hence they fail prematurely. Great repair.

      Thanks Mike. If you still have problems give me a shout as I've repaired 2 of these with similar faults but different causes. Check my other video just in case it's the other fault.

    Hi Mick. Do you think it is possible the manufacturers intentionally drive things on the limit because they know they will fail, as they do with LEDs to get maximum brightness to enhance sales

    • @BuyitFixit
      @BuyitFixit  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm not sure mate, I'd suspect sometimes they do, like in LEDs as you rightly said.

    What is your opinion of "power screw drivers?" I find mine to save a bunch of time and they (i have 2) do not over torque the screws either.

    • @BuyitFixit
      @BuyitFixit  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never been a fan of them, I always like to feel how much pressure are on the screws. Perhaps I'm just old and stuck in my ways 😂😂😂😂

    Awesome video yet again.. so if you had just changed the zennor diode would that have fixed it ?
    have you repaired one yet which doesnt work on battery but does on 240 ?

    • @BuyitFixit
      @BuyitFixit  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks 👍If I remember right it was the volume control IC got fried by the faulty zener (hopefully this is the right video as I've fixed two of these) The other one was a faulty transistor for the 240v switch over which seems to be the opposite of the fault you describe although it may be useful still as I'm sure I work out where different voltages go.

    • @robinafandale
      @robinafandale 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      cheers. I'm looking to buy a radio and I've seen 3 for sale now work on 240 but not on 18v.. keep up the good work 😊

    Really interesting video - and you got to the solution eventually.
    However, you could have saved yourself some time by noticing in the datasheet for the SC7314 that the absolute maximum supply voltage is 10.5V, so clearly there was an issue with the supply that blew up the chip and also overheated the supply series resistor. Tracing this back to the short circuit zener in the regulator circuit would have saved you from suspecting the replacement SC7314 ICs from China. I think these were actually ok - if you had checked the datasheet for the SC7314 you would have seen that a resistance of 450 ohms between pins 1 and 2 was expected - the operating supply voltage is nominally 9V and supply current 20mA. 9 / 20mA = 450 ohms. Then you would not have had to substitute the SC7314 with a different device.
    Anyway, well done for solving it - reverse engineering is tricky!

    • @BuyitFixit
      @BuyitFixit  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Steve 👍yes I honestly thought the 450 ohm wasn't correct. Thanks for the explanation. I've had fake chips or faulty chips from Aliexpress before which is why I thought it wasn't correct. The other device is exactly the same pinout and similar spec if I remember correctly. Yes reverse engineering is tricky. Not sure if you saw the FLIR thermal camera I repaired? I've also done it with software on here a few times. Check out the medical ultrasound scanner, or the solar inverter video called no password no problem. You might find those interesting 👍

      @@BuyitFixit Hi again - thanks for your reply! Much appreciated. I should have added extra thanks to you as your video serves as an excellent intro to repairing this particular model as I look to be working on one soon - invaluable help for me. I do absolutely understand your suspicion about possibly fake chips from AliExpress - always in my mind when I have to revert to that as an option. Thanks for the suggested videos - I will definitely check them out. I am an electronics technician and really appreciate the different approaches others have to their repairs - broadens my way of thinking. Thanks again, and all the best!

    Hi. I have the same radio JSR dab+ never used outside only in the house and not moved.
    All of a sudden the dab signal keeps dropping out making it not possible to listen to.
    Many thanks for your interesting videos.

    • @BuyitFixit
      @BuyitFixit  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks 👍I'm not sure what could be causing the signal problem. Are any other DAB radios having the problem? Could it be interference from an external source?

      Unfortunately not, the speakers would only be rated to take a certain amount of power. You would need to fit a larger (or external amplifier) with some larger or external speakers connected to it.

      If you have a link to the parts you bought it would be really helpful?

    • @BuyitFixit

      The part that I used to fix this radio is this one here:
      www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293243389191
      It's a PT2314 which is the same as the original SC7314 just by a different manufacturer as the SC7314 I received seemed to be fake.
      But before ordering parts I'd check what power is going to that chip. Is the 22ohm resistor burnt?
      I fixed another radio with a SIMILAR issue, but it was actually a different problem.
      The problem on the other radio was a relay not clicking in due to a blown transistor on the power supply. Do you hear a "click" from a relay when you turn the radio on when plugged into the mains and you turn the power switch on the front on? If so then that transistor would appear to be working ok.
      Hope that helps!
