You have missed a trick with hat and goggles. Keep them in your hand as you pull that second sleeve off. Let go as you get near the wrist. Now they are safely stored in the sleeve of your wetsuit, so don't get lost and you have saved a second or two.
I have a blue seventy and they encourage cutting the cuffs for fit. In my case I am a small tall, and the legs are still a little short, so I had no need too.
Note to self, make sure the timing chip is underneath the wetsuit. One time at an aquathlon a few years ago I had the timing chip around the wetsuit on the outside... And didn't realize it when I'm in transition trying to get the wetsuit off. So here I am like a fool, shaking my leg as if I had a snake biting me. Luckily nobody was recording this 🙂. Oh and I was so annoyed at myself for doing that (not my first Rodeo by any means), that first mile of the run I must have ran under 6 minutes.
There is no way the timing chip fits underneath my wetsuit. I just take it off and then back on. Same for the watch. I loose precious seconds but I can't avoid it.
Great tips! Just be careful with baby oil. Most brands are derivatives of crude oil (as is vaseline), which is just fine for a baby’s ass but can damage neoprene. I wear compression bands on my calves (no longer fashionable, I know), they’re just slippery enough to make getting the wetsuit through my calves a cakewalk. Also, I would make a point of taking the upper part off while still running. Not obvious to beginners, and you kind of don’t have to hurry if you’re using the run to T1 to release your arms (therefore no reason to lube your forearms, unless they’re very hairy or something).
Sorry I thought I made that clear about running whilst taking the top half off, but that was what I meant. Yeah, to be honest, petroleum jelly and oil has always been warned to degrade wetsuits. I have always used it, as do most athletes. I’ve never seen a wetsuit degrade as a result. But do feel free to use something different
The wetsuit is there for warmth mostly. Quite often in the UK we’re swimming in water below 14 degrees celcius. They’re also compulsory for that reason under a certain temperature in races. They also add buoyancy, which can help to make you swim faster. Then we have proper Tri/Swimming wetsuits, as we’re wearing, that are optimised for flexibility around the shoulders

I wear sleeveless, that helps me a lot with having a plate on my clavicle.

I can count the number of times in my life I’ve gotten a cramp. And they all are during the wetsuit removal portion of a race! 🤣

I've done the same thing in a triathlon and its so fustrating. From now on I always safety pin the strap closed rather than relying only on the Velcro
