This happens to me all the time whenever I'm in Japan. Even in some small city up in Hokkaido! They have to do this for school I noticed (that's why they go where many foreign tourists are). Also they just like to practise some English. I never know if I should answer back in English or Japanese, just to see their reaction haha
Kind of late, I understand, but I've actually been practicing Japanese with my brother spent a lot of time in Japan. He told me that there are a lot of japanese citizens (including adults and children) that like to practice their Japanese or ask questions (to practice or just wondering about the world). They seem to really like tourists and think that English is a cool language to learn, similar to how we are interested in Japan and the language there. And hopefully, he will take me to see Japan since he promised me I would. Even People in Japan love it when you speak their language.
This might be a school trip for the kids, and in that case they are usually told to speak to someone in English. So they have just completed their assignment! Also, they look like Elementary school 6th graders. Edit: just checked how old the video is. These kids must be in High School now!
ppl being like: "they learn english free" So do I, my native language is not english. Almost in every country you learn english. So what is so surprising here?
I love the support y'all give Japanese kids. However, not all of them are polite and respectful as these. I worked in tutoring class, and some of them were quite wild, saying crude jokes and stuff in Japanese.
Impressionante o modo no qual os japoneses são disciplinados. eles são mt bem educados! existe uma diferença grotesca em relação a disciplina no Br. de fato é um choque cultural, asemelhar essas diferenças.
The same happened to me at Fushimi-inari shrine, group of 5 japanese kids came to me (they were even younger then the kids in your video) together with a teacher to ask me questions in english, it was a school trip/project for them, it was so adorable.
was in japan in april, we went the same way and were asked simple questions by schoolkids and if they could take a picture with us. it was all a school homework.
Brazil and Peru has alot of Japanese people there, i have family there who wre farmers. My grand parents ended up in the plantation of Hawaii. Aloha from westside Oahu Hawaii !
This is very common in Japan I see. Many people see a foreigner and try to speak them in english ...even if you're not english speaker (my case) But is more for the lenguaje and second because they're interested in you and your culture how it used to be in other countries I'm not saying its bad. Its just curious like they're real interested in just practice
I've heard a lot of people in Japan are interested in other cultures, including America, and think some of it is cool. Similar how Americans see Japanese Kanji, they think English is a cool language.
The young people in Japan try to respectfully interact with you and identify with you as an exotic "person", instead of the people in China who see you as a strange "thing" to be used for their amusement. Another big difference in cultural values between the peoples of Japan vs. China.
Some foreign tourists are very cautious when someone approach(es), thinking what their intentions are, selling something trying to steal something etc. It rarely happens in Japan. It may take a while till you get used to it. Most Japanese kids are also very shy approaching non-Japanese speaking person.
This is what Japanese need, more opportunities to speak English, to communicate non-Japanese speaking people. Learning a new language is like training for flying, hours matter.
It's a class assignment. A group of kids will ask a foreign person a few questions and offer them a small hand made trinket for their time. It promotes interaction with people and practice a little English and learn about other cultures. Foreigners who stop seem to enjoy their interaction with these young people.
Are you speaking Filipino or Tagalog man at 0:18 and even I cannot read the description, not English?? When hearing it, again it sounded a bit like merci at the start, but I do not speak french at all.
What? I use to have a lady talking about a tiny bit of Portugal and I remembered that Portuguese just reminded me of Chinese the way they overlap with the ese and I can't understand what you wrote what he said, why don't you type it in English, there's no need to write me in portuguese, since I only speak Polish, Japanese and English fluently and almost nearly fluent, but very tiny bits of french, spanish and italian so is chinese?
That would absolutely never ever never happen in America. ..I'm soo ashamed..I would love for that to happen to me! I would've kept those kids there for an hour lol
I hate children... But these kids making it hard for me to hate, ugh... Must... Resist... Good kids... Children love me, I treat them as grown ups but FFS leave me alone! Don't make me beat you at YU GI OH!
Japanese children are so polite and quite cultivate even in young age....I have deep respect for Japanese people...What a culture..
weaboo.
They were taught that way xD
I see how Japanese kids can be more kind than kids where I'm from (The UK). Most kids here are complete twats

Their eagerness to engage with someone in a foreign language is so nice to see. Knowing more languages is always beneficial.
Those kids were so adorable!
Misses Witch society has gone downhill. I think that a lot of people today don't value respect and manners.
ppl being like: "they learn english free" So do I, my native language is not english. Almost in every country you learn english. So what is so surprising here?

Respect your elders and everyone is where children’s are taught in most Asian countries.

Hope Japan stays immigrant free. This is pretty much the only country with a culture of their own.
That still does not mean they have to dilute their culture.

last september i saw a group of kids in Ginkakuji temple interviewing a blonde. Maybe it is a school activity of some sort?
probably just curiosity, and a chance to practice their english with someone who is fluent in english .
It's a class assignment. A group of kids will ask a foreign person a few questions and offer them a small hand made trinket for their time. Kawayoporu it's Brazilian Portuguese
He said: "meio sinistro a quantidade de pessoas que estavam na nossa frente né?"
