RATE US ON LETTERBOXD: letterboxd.com/film/malevolent-2024/ "First of all, I would like to express my immense gratitude for having such an incredible team for Malevolent. Although the movie is far from perfect, largely due to directing and editing mistakes I made-which I take full responsibility for-my team worked incredibly hard and did a fantastic job. I am very excited to work with them on our future projects. This movie really began back in July 2022 when I had the initial idea to create a short film like Malevolent, but at the time, I didn't have a team to make it happen. When I moved to college the following month, I found a small group of friends who were willing to invest their time and energy into the project. As a first-time director handling an independent team, I eagerly anticipated the transition from pre-production to production. Our crew gradually expanded from 2 to 5, then to 10, and eventually to 30 people. However, one thing led to another, and our entire team fell apart by February 2023. Malevolent was stuck in production hell, and my co-director and I couldn't find a way to make the movie a reality. But we didn't wanted to give up. We worked on revamping the script to accommodate a smaller crew for our second attempt. Fortunately, by September 2023, we found our new lead actress and other crew members. We then waited for our schedules and location to be finalized before filming. On February 3rd, 2024, about a year after the first Malevolent team's collapse, we finally started rolling the camera with our second team. The purpose of sharing this story isn't to show anyone from the first Malevolent crew in a bad light, but to inspire amateur and student filmmakers not to give up hope on their projects. An important lesson I learned throughout this process is that what truly matters in the end is the final product and the relationships you build with your team. As mentioned before, I'm not entirely proud of my directing or editing, but Malevolent served its primary purpose-it gave us a team we can trust no matter what. Thank you for reading my long message! Please take a moment to share your thoughts on what you liked and didn't like about our movie through comments, IMDb, and Letterboxd." - Sid Bhaskaran
