- Eclipse mania is sweeping the country. On April 8, millions will be gazing up to catch a glimpse of the once-in-a-lifetime event. Manufacturer Mark Margolis says there has been a flood of counterfeit solar eclipse glasses that have hit the market. Inside Edition found an ad on Craigslist offering 500 pairs of glasses for just $100. An Inside Edition producer went undercover to meet up with the man selling all those glasses. Inside Edition’s Les Trent has more.
That guy needs to be fired and banned from Craigslist!!
Looks more like Craigslist.
They literally FN say Craig's list
Who uses Craigslist these days anyways
@@ZERONEINNOVATIONSA lot of people still use Craigslist
People need common sense
So this dude is risking everyones literal eyesight and is walking free while making a buck? Crazy world
I’ve stared at the sun before. Why would it hurt me this time
@@MichaelMichaelMichael.Apparently it fried your brain too. Dumb question

Imagine knocking people off for one of the rarest events to see
honestly
It's a rare opportunity.
@@ManChan-w5pit's not rare because we just had it 5 years ago
And probably causing them to go blind too😭
Not just that. making people blind to not ever witnessing anything ever again.
So this whole story was almost pointless, they didn’t find any unsafe glasses, the one they bought on Craigslist and examined by the ‘expert’ was not deemed unsafe, the expert said he doesn’t know.
Exactly 😂😂 this news show is always a joke.
Yeah, what sort of "expert" would give such a vague answer?
In 2017 there were counterfeit ones and people did suffer eye damage from it
@@inflation1139idk if I’d call inside edition news lol…. More just gossip entertainment…. Buuuut they could’ve actually told ppl how to find safe glasses. Easy to find out online. Gotta trace them back to nasa approved manufacturers not sellers or brands
I’m glad im not the only one.
I like how the news be outting people 😂 on camera 🤳 😂😂😂
Any easy way to figure out if the glasses were fake is to see if you wake up blind the day after the eclipse
Thank you 🙏 so much
@user-wz6gd1qv4ilooking at the sun doesn't make you go blind. That's an old wives tale. I've looked directly at the sun many times since I was a little kid, even through binoculars and telescopes. I'm now 60 years old and my eyesight is fine. I don't even wear glasses.
I expected an explanation on how to test them.
Get a vary hot and bright flash light and shin into your eyes it won't cause any lasting damage but will burn that's how I tested mine
put them on and stare at the sun for half hour. thats the NASA test
People would have believed it more if it said - Approved by the Sun .. Instead of Nasa😅
⚠️if ur worried ur glasses may be fake then I would recommend putting them on and looking at the sun before the eclipse, if the sun is a orange color then ur good.👍
BAHAHAHA 🤣🤣🤣 I thought everyone knew by now
@@A_warrior_in_the_making clearly some don’t lol
People will scam anyone for anything.
Imagine going to the hospital just because you bought some glasses that had the words "NASA approved."
"tested by certifications in China" ok so they don't work at all then, got it. 😂😂😂
Dr. Ralph in Toronto was a great help. He looked at the cardboard.
The city I live in is gonna be PACKED with people 😭
Rainbow Symphony is where I got mine from. Glad to see them speak up on safety.
He should get arrested selling fake Solar Eclipse glasses, Doesn't even think twice for anyone who will loose there eyesight in the future.
I saw the eclipse in Montreal with ISO glasses, and it was absolutely amazing I'm not surprised some people cried. That was one life time experience
Guy probably frantically looking for who he sold the glasses to now.
I just use a bucket of water
I'd rather use an ND filter on a digtal camera and look at it through the digital screen. Not worth the risk to eyesight to look at it directly.
Looking back at this, you guys could’ve stopped him from walking away
People will do anything to make a quick buck. Sad. What has happened to our society?
And only getting worse
the next one will be in US in august of 2044
Across the East coast only

if you watch the livestream, you protect both your eyes and your wallet!
but i want to see it in real life so it feels real
@@STARIZZY458 close one of ur eyes, put an orange parallel to a light bulb and to ur other eye that is open. Boom, artificial solar eclipse. You'll even get some weird black spots once you're done looking at it!
No criminal charges for blinding people.
Nah I trust my happy meal
You can safely view the eclipse on many live streaming sources.
Although you can view the eclipses on live streaming videos, you're still not gonna witness the beauty of it, not even pictures.
But they have iso on them?
Wish I thought of this
Inside edition could not afford a light emitter with a set frequency to find out if the glasses were effective?
“Here comes the sun.” I can’t wait for the memes that will occur if someone goes blind 💀💀
Bought those same phony eclipse glasses 2 hours before the event, luckily saw this video and didn’t use them. There was a line of 100 people in the park buying them just an hour before the event, I prayed for every eyeball. Luckily my coworker had a good pair and I was able to view the eclipse.
Oww no please don't look at the sun period please
too good to be true...
A knockoff on the streets of Manhattan?
We’ve had red moons, blue moons “Once in a blue moon”, but still everyone would rather watch the basic toilet hole moon 😂
I haven't found one that it's made in China.
ALL the ones I've found say they're made in China.
I already bought mine.
Great... I think I'll avoid looking at the sun at all instead
Bought two at Kroger , these were so bad You couldn’t see through them , so I guess they protected your eyes with no view
This is a lil late but make sure to check for “iso approved” on your glasses
I thought the Solar Eclipse wouldn't get that popular so I didn't watch it. You know what? I will watch the next one on 2026.
Where can you buy them?
Wait..They’re all burning blind?
Great so they were selling these at canadian tire
. We wore them ..
I always go for *suluxs* , their quality is great. and for authenticators to not be able to detect it as a fake
2:45 Why even have that guy on? He didn't say they weren't say, he didn't say they were safe... I distrust media so much, I bet he said they were safe, but that doesn't make good news.
This that wife that puts 10 towels and a blankets and wanders why the washer craps out less than a year later😅.
I live in California so I didn't get to see it😂
Same
I’m using a welding helmet
still got mine from 2017 when it came through here. Too bad I'm just outside of totality this time
Why is it that all the good stuff ALWAYS happens in America
Its the center of the world 😂
USA! USA! USA!
Looking at the sun doesn't make you go blind. That's an old wives tale. I've looked directly at the sun many times since I was a little kid, even through binoculars and telescopes. I'm now 60 years old and my eyesight is fine. I don't even wear glasses.
The one day this happens. The clouds came an hour before, it happened. And within an hour of the end of the eclipse, the clouds went away
"once in a life time" - this has happend over 30 times in my life time
Just watch the livestream of the solar eclipse on your smartphone lol
Back when i was a little kid we smocked pieces of glass with a candle, and look through them at the eclipse. They work.
Will my glasses from 2017 still work 💀
one manufacturer of solar eclipse glass product i saw on amazon tell their customers to throw the product after 1 year, so i would not risk it.
Glasses don't expire 💀
@@mapl3mage of course they would tell you to throw it away, so you can buy more. I have used mine for years and years and still its the same.
@@CrazyAsian1 on the other hand, they don't want to get sued in the unlikely case that something goes wrong with the glass (e.g. a very tiny crack in the glass that is hard to see, but enough to let in a dangerous amount of light). you could be right and the eclipse glass is still perfectly safe to use. i would do the light bulb test before using just to be safe.
Why would anyone even buy these??? I've seen ads for free glasses everywhere
i approve those cheek injections
Ayn Rands writing in action
You'll burn your eyes out!
Think I've still got a few pairs from watching 3D movies at the movie theatres
😂 oh ya forgot they had these for as long as humanity has existed sheeple 😂
Been looking at eclipses without glasses everytime 😂😂 my eyesight still good
I bought one from Walmart hopefully it’s good.
I bought these NASA approved solar glasses at Canadian Tire without noticing your video. I waste money for a pair.
Smark man he if you have doubt don't use it
better to be blinded by one's stupidity than the eclipse
Not worth the risk to look. Even with the glasses.🤷
Hector Salamanca?
You can do the shoe box project
Me: ☹️
i didnt know they could be knockoff like that, i just use a welding mask as solar eclipse glasses
We got ours from Amazon and they had all of the right logos and warnings and everything. Even the ISO logo. We just got an email that they were fake. I’m not trusting anything now
A simple silver mylar potato chip bag can be used safely. If it appears too bright, use two layers. Any of the silver packaging used for things like chips, toaster pop tarts, etc can be used. A welding lens, number 10 or higher is also safe.
Even with glasses, dont actually look at it directly
whats the reason tho
Idk
The expert is "not sure" 🙄
Why’s he not been charged at all
I live where it is
How can eclipse glasses be COUNTERFEIT??? They could be INADEQUATE, but not COUNTERFEIT!!
I’m super paranoid about buying them off Amazon. And i looked on a legit site and it was like 48 dollars shipping
Better use a welding helmet (if you have one) if your gonna view the sun
Slow news day?
got mine 2day
😂
Well I'm having my mom get some solar eclipse glasses at our local Speedway, I guess I better check to see if they're counterfeit or not before Monday. 🙁🕵🏼♀️🕶️
I have the T-Mobile ones and the approved ones lol
Love how most in the comments just accept the narrative, without realizing that the glasses were never shown to be unsafe or ineffective, and the 'expert' cited said he just didn't know.
When it comes to safety I would never ever depend on anything made in China you would be risking your vision😮
Got to look out fore those scam artists.
Will the eclipse be visible from Georgia?
in Georgia you should have a Partial Solar Eclipse where you can see it but it wont be fully covered
Thank you! Do you happen to know what time it will take place and for how long it might last?
@@michellecox1742 i have no clue, sorry
you should also tell people how to tell if theyre fake, like by using your phones flashlight. if you put the glasses over the flashlight while its on, you should see little to no light
watch someone get 3d movie glasses, and it makes it even worse.
Approved? Approved by whom?
They need ISO approve, not NASA
@@demondog804 i wouldn't trust ISO marking in the glass too much, since the maker can always lie.
@@mapl3mageYou wouldn't trust the ISO, a GOVERNMENT agency......Yet you'll trust NASA, a different GOVERNMENT agency???? WTF????
Lol Hell Naww
The library is giving them out for free...
