  • In a crowded market segment, the Citroen C5 Aircross carves out its niche by prioritising comfort. While this refreshed SUV gains a sharper image than its predecessor, it remains pleasingly soft in all the right places.

    Great review, thanks. The Citroën C5 hybrid is a ridiculously comfortable car. I drove a loan car today while my C3 Aircross was in for a service. Beautiful car and great to drive. The EAT8 automatic transmission is quite a level up on the EAT6 that my C3 has. I'd buy the C5 hybrid if I could afford one.

    What I loved most about my current C5 spacetourer is the gear at the neck of the steering. I love it that I never have to look down to change gear - the gear is up there with the steering. I just love that feature.

    Had the previous model now for 2 years and 24000 miles. It’s been excellent with no problems. Very comfortable and pulls very well even though it’s the 1.2 mode with auto box. Average fuel of 45 mpg. Thought about changing at my local dealership for the hybrid but about £8000 more than the 1.2 engine then to fit an electric point to house makes no sense economically. Have decided my car can stay with us for another year.
    Good review and informative.

      24k miles is nothing for a car!! I drive close to that in a yr

    Great review! I like that you mention how comfortable the car is, because to me personally, comfortable suspension, seats and low noise levels inside the cabin are by far more important than anything else in a car.
    Having said that, would you say the C5X and the Aircross are equivalent in terms of suspension comfort, or is one better than the other? I believe the hybrid X has an improved suspension setup, but I am planning on purchasing either a diesel or a petrol, so that wouldn't affect my choices.

    • @michaelpullen8527
      @michaelpullen8527 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The suspension is beefed up but only because it is carrying more weight due to having the battery. My dealer says if you travel less than 13 k miles per year the Hybrid makes no sense. Hope this helps. A lovely quiet car and the 1.2 auto is a lovely place to be on journeys.

      The plug-in hybrid is the only version of the C5 X that gets the more advanced adaptive dampers whereas the two purely petrol models get a passive suspension setup. The adaptive system helps to offset the additional weight of the hybrid powertrain and the result is an exceptionally comfortable ride. It isn't only about dealing with the extra weight, however, as it's a more sophisticated suspension system.
      The C5 X is perhaps a little more comfortable than the C5 Aircross in general, but there isn't much in it. ^ Shane

    In Ukraine we still have those with reliable 2.0HDI 180hp, with retail price from 31-34k$ for re-styled version... Best value for money.

    It looks like C-Series Edition, Shine looks a bit different in front layout and exterior.
    I own Shine edition, love it, I find it to be a very comfortable car, quiet and nice to drive. Surprised by telling that people who buy Plug-in hybrid don't plug it, because it's like the reason I went into it: save some coin on these short trips. If you drive on a motorway, it may be useful to turn on eSave feature, which allows you to preserve some of the battery level for city/town mode, sacrificing petrol, but it's up to the driver to decide. I personally found that if you have battery full charged, petrol consumption on motorway can easily go over 100 mpg, which is mindblowing. So hope people can charge their vehicles more often with cheap energy (e.g. night EV tariff) to save.
    However, I think it lags a bit on acceleration, sometimes not acting as fast as you want to, but it's something you can get used to. Forced recuperative breaking mode is very interesting (and useful to prolong battery-only trip distance), as it allows you to tap break pedal less often.

    Thank you for the video. I have not yet dealt intensively with hybrids. But according to current knowledge, you do need a way to charge near the vehicle. But that's difficult if, like me, you live in a multi-family rental house and the parking space for the car is at the side of the house where there is no power outlet. So I have no chance of charging it at home. For that reason alone, such a plug-in hybrid is unlikely to make sense for me. Or am I thinking wrong?

    • @CompletecarIe
      @CompletecarIe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Roi. Unfortunately, you are correct - plug-in hybrids are only efficient if you plug them in to charge up the battery as often as possible and that's difficult to do if you don't have a home charger.

    would you say that the Citroën C5 hybrid is quieter than e.g the average hybride suv?

    • @CompletecarIe

      It's quiet, but it's the comfort that sets it apart.

    • @pereparabol

      Really depends on your style and your ability to charge your vehicle. With full battery charged it can blow over 100 mpg, unless you're making really long trips.
