You guys need to take into consideration that in some old and new fifa's they over inflated the ratings. So dont compare a 98 ronaldo nazario with 94 messi like its a 4 rating difference just diffrent game mechanics and rating system.
Fifa 11 had the lowest ratings and i like it ,gave more space for improvement in special cards and more variety of different players stats

The overall rating is based off an algorithm of stats for each position. For KDB he has great passing stats, shooting & dribbling (god knows how it should be in the low 70s). KDB luckily excels in kicking power and other valuable stats for a CAM in fifa. You shouldnt base your opinion of a player based of a fifa rating lool
The rating itself is not set by EA, just by the collection of stats. Its not amazing in the slightest lol. If the rating wasnt just an algoritm and was hand picked theres no way anybody would put his rating that high. Especially after his disastrous 18/19 season where he somehow stayed 91 in fifa 20. Most overrated player of alltime personally, but you can have your opinion

Ultimate team was only invented in FIFA 09, so obviously the base rating system had to be nerfed to accommodate special cards I.e, in forms, TOTS, TOTY etc. Not to mention the game mechanics in general are completely different

fifa 2002, weird looking now, probably won't even run on win 10, but definitely looked way better than 98 or 2001. That time my pc was only able to run than on 64 mb video card :D I was playing so much, I could do the scorpion kick and all the tricks, beating world class a lot. Ronaldinho was the best player, since height and kg mattered a lot, 178 and 72 was best for quickness on the dribble and just generally in attack, bought a few nonames based on this and they all worked well. Also stats were 1 to 7 only, 7 shot was too strong, hitting crossbar from the circle in the middle if you got the gauge to the perfect level. 6/7 shot was just enough weak to go under the bar, it was a cheat to score long shots. So much so, if you sold players (fixed value) and got 6 shot players on 3-4 speed, it was a way to save money for the rest of the team :) no need to run when you just put him in midfield and shot.
2003 and 2004 was graphically better but gameplay was bad. 2005 was really fun FIFA, 2008 too. After that Pro evo Soccer was usually better in my opinion. Fifa 2010 pissed me off with bugs even after 3rd patch. Really enjoyed PES 11 and 12 too. Generally more control over the tricks and the crossing had more options too.
Fifa 2002 world cup was a weird one, physics were like on Mars, you could pass to yourself by pressing high pass, was a weird gauge sending the ball bouncing really close, then you could just bounce it all the way to the other side of the field. Star players had automatic curve on their shots, but actually you could replicate it with pressing C or Z (default keys) to put a spin on it, but there were handball scores most games. Totally unrealistic but kind of fun.
Nesta hit the top a few times too. Lot of the top players played in AC milan at some point, so sad now they don't even buy them at old age :(

It can. It depends on whether EA are willing or not. They take special cards into consideration which doesn't exist in the old days hence why you don't see 95-99 base rating these days. Or 10+ players having 91+ ratings

There's actually secret rating that many people don't know about. This is not conspiracy btw. I don't know what it's called, but I got to knew about this when I created my player card with exactly the same stats of CR7, but my player's ratings were lower. When I researched and found a reddit post, it said they add like 2 or more overall rating to some cards. Maybe for selling the game in the name of most popular player of the year, even if the statistical rating didn't made the player to top the cards? whatever...
Messi and Ronaldo always got at least 3 OVR added to their cards. Maybe in some cards were we see some stats obviously making up better overall than other cards with higher overall, it can be because of this stuff.
