    I grew up fishing the Gulf of Mexico. Family had a small cabin on St. George Island before it even had a bridge. It was always fun to invite friends and family. It was always the same... non-stop action and people that slept like BABIES at night after a day of exhaustion in the sun.

    What an episode! I am glad you are taking advantage of this stretch of calm seas.I have caught maybe a half dozen of those Atlantic Bonito in my life {almost 73]. It just goes to show how important it is to bleed those fish out. None of the ones I caught had fillets even close to yours. Back then I didn't bleed them out just throw them in the fish box. The fillets were a light pink color. I got a kick out of you saying you caught that last AJ on "a dead piece of squid".

    • @CaptCollier
      @CaptCollier  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yessir hard to not run out far when it’s pretty. And That’s crazy, Ive just recently started braining and bleeding the fish I plan to eat and obviously from what you e said it makes a world of a difference.

      Grew up fishing the Gulf of Mexico in Texas, mostly Port Aransas but once out of Venice, LA. Never heard of an Atlantic Bonita caught in the Western Gulf. I have caught skipjack tuna at the floaters while deep jigging down 200+ ft in 3000 ft of water. Even saw a big broadbill on top one night.

    Great video as always.👍🏻
    Have you had any difficulty catching decent snapper in less than 150’ of water this year?
    It seems like our best snapper trips this season are happening in 200’ of water (or even deeper.)

    • @CaptCollier
      @CaptCollier  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks buddy, and honestly i haven't really tried other than the first weekend of snapper season. When i was helping run charters with Gettightoffshore we were limiting out on big ones every trip in the 200' depth. Didnt stop and try anything shallower often. From what ive heard its been tough though.

      @@CaptCollier Thanks for the response, Capt.👍🏻
      We also had good luck in the 90’-140’ depths the 1st few weeks, but seemingly, around the time of the ADSFR, it’s like the larger snaps moved a little farther offshore to deeper depths.🤷🏼‍♂️
      Again, thank you for posting all the great videos! See you out there soon.

    Awesome video what size hook do you use to catch trigger fish?

    • @CaptCollier
      @CaptCollier  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d say anywhere between a 3/0 to a 5/0. It varies with different hook brands so hard to say but you definitely want a stout one or they will bend it

    I’ve caught an Atlantic bonito up in jersey off a jetty and the meat didn’t look anything like the videos I’ve seen it this one, it was much greyer and wasn’t as good tasting as I’ve heard. It was also very small like 10 inches so maybe size has something to do with it.

    • @CaptCollier
      @CaptCollier  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe because it wasn't bled properly, that's makes all the difference

    If you forage for food there are no limits and there are no rules, when you purchase a license you are now in business your in business with the government or whoever gives you the license, there is no license required to forage for food, it's the same thing with a hunting license or even a drivers license, all licenses are to do business,if you are not selling quarry you're not in business and no license is required.

    No idea if it will keep the knats at bay.
