Smart thinking! Don't get greedy, and I think $30 is just fine for a yard, 6 mins, if you have another right down the road.

Last season, my minimum starting rate was $40. As the season picked up and I added more customers, I started to change that starting rate to $45 for new customers. Towards the end of the season, I raised my minimum rate of up to $50. I was maxed out being solo and was actually turning work away once I hit 60 weekly customers. This 2023 season, I plan to start my minimum rate at $50 for 0-10,000 sq ft property. Have a great 2023 season!

@Ken Beary I don't do any advertising it's all word of mouth or from Google and Social Media pages. Being a solo guy, I try and stay between 50-60 customers a week. Once I'm in that range, then I'm booked for the season and have to put potential customers on a waiting list. These past 2 seasons, I've had to say no to potential customers because my route was already filled before the season even started.

My minimum is $50 just to drop the gate. My smallest property is around 3,000 square feet of grass and takes me 10-15 minutes to mow. Lawn mowing is a luxury service and if customers want service they need to pay my price. I used to budge and work with customers but that'll fall back on you. Good luck and have a great season!

Same thing. New minimum is $55 but I’m the same way except I’ll drop to $40-45 for something in my route that takes under 10 minutes. Over a month that’s about 240 an hour to mow something like that. I’m solo and just aim for 85 an hour for mowing, 125 an hour for cleanups. 150 a yard for mulch.

Great content guys. I started in October of 2022 in Michigan and got a small taste of self employment doing spring cleanups. Currently charging 250 minimum for solo mulch jobs that take around an hour. Currently I’m snow blowing driveways for 65. Minimum and canvassing neighborhoods to doorhanger in February. I was going to have a 40 minimum, then decided on 50. That’s my absolute minimum for houses in my area though I plan on driving 10 minutes south to the other city where the houses are 400-750k on average. I think my minimum for those will be 60-65. I also want to focus on premium lawns with irrigation. I plan on focusing on lawn striping to really impress people when I park my trailer out front.

I'm an owner/operator without employees and the only overhead I have is insurance, fuel and maintenance. I'm in my fifth season of mowing, trimming & blowing. I started with a $40 minimum and am now transitioning to $50/hr on most of my jobs....$75/hr for spring/fall cleanups. Most of my jobs take around an hour, if it's a property with a lot of variables or a large property, then I charge $50/hr and time myself. I'm considering going totally over to timed pricing @ $50/hr and just time every lawn, then if you get stuck mowing overgrown lawns or do any additional work you're getting paid at that $50/hr rate. But like you I keep my mind open and make exceptions here & there for the small lawn next door for the elderly. I try to keep a volunteer mow going all the time for someone that needs it.

I have a $40 minimum and I advise potential customers up front if the property is very small that they can likely find cheaper. They normally appreciate that clarity and hire me regardless. Small properties, I have 5 that take me between 5 and 17 minutes all pay me the minimum because while the work itself may take very little, I personally try to account for drive time as well. There are neigbors of mine I cut at a lower rate than normal because I don't have to drive. But they still pay $45 and up, instead of the $55 or more id charge for there properties if they were elsewhere.

Central Ct our minimum for 1/4 acre lot is $60. We bag, trim, edge. In and out in 20 minutes with two man crew and typically do 2.5/3 lawns an hour. We shoot for $90 per man per hour but with maintenance it’s tough and usually hit $85 per man per hour.

My minimum last seas was $40. Really pushing for $45 this season. However, like you, I have a few small ones that I charge less on. For example, I have a small hotel lot that takes me 7 minutes by myself for $30. Also do my old house in 12 minutes for $25 (single mom lives there now). I think a minimum is definitely needed, but if you can pick up a $30 yard that in your route, then you might as well do it imo.

My cheapest lawn is $60 and takes 45 min.. However i have some lawns that are more but only takes 20 min.. There is a landscaper shortage here, so people are happy if you agree to do it and do a nice job. Dont undercut the competition. In the end it becomes a race to the bottom. If someone doesnt like your price, then recommend them to someone that you know is even more expensive. This holds up your local market. There is enough work to go around, but not at $25. Trust the process

We are out in Upstate NY. The way we charge is by man hour, sq footage does not do you justice if you have a long time customer. So for per man per hour our rate is $75. So if a house takes us minutes with two guys we like to charge $75.

dallas people are cheap i cant get many hits with my minimum at $45 on smaller yards. i did a pole and everyone is cutting the good neighborhoods that are about 6k sqft for $35 so i had to drop my minimum to grab those yards. Everyone was telling me the 35 dollar guys went up to 40 so hopefully i get more yards. I will then raise rates on future people. But $40 will be my lowest im sure.

How do you like that bagger system on the walker? Have you used others, if so, whats your opinion on them also?

    • @ziggybrothers
      @ziggybrothers  ปีที่แล้ว

We really love the bagging system on the walker. Especially for leaves and such it’s a great machine. We’ve tried the sideways catcher systems on the standard zero turns also and they work but seem to clog a lot more and not pick up as much debris. (Perfect for standard cutting tho). And we’ve also had the catcher system on our Multiforce which was ok. The concept of it worked but it sat sideways in a weird spot and dug up the ground when going over uneven surface. We also used the direct collect Z from toro. Which the bagger worked great and similar to the walker when the machine worked, but we were not fans of the machine overall.

    Bad move:
If it takes you 6 minutes for a property, your going to put yourself out of jobs. A home owner will think i can do this in 20 min, (3 times longer), and save the money. You'll start putting yourself outtah jobs real quick. Plus if the home owner is watching looks like you are rushing and don't care about detail. Your walking a fine line of loosing accounts. But of you wanna go that route go ahead.
I have 144 accounts in 1 community. I take my time and when done take less then a minute and stand there looking at the property giving the impression i care a lot. This is the difference of rushing jobs and saying ok done gimme my money lady or being more professional. My customers know me well and there's trust. i have the same customers forever.
If someone offers a cheaper rice by $5 your outtah of a job. If you don't care neither will the owner who hired you.
