Castelchiaro - Leuchtenburg Castle

On a hill high above Lake Caldaro, the ruin of the legendary Castelchiaro fortress, or Leuchtenburg, rises to the sky.
The exact construction date of Castelchiaro has not yet been determined. The building period is often mentioned between 1200 and 1250. Around 1250, the Lords of Rottenburg, probably also the builders, lived in the castle. At that time, Castelchiaro was a fortress built in a strategic position. The castle consists of a nearly circular high mantle (shield wall) and several residential buildings in the interior, which have only partially been preserved. After 1610, the fortress was left to decay and was consolidated only in the 20th century.
