Exactly. It’s the same in some fb groups. If they get a whiff that you’re a reseller, you’re out. Resellers are the ones that know how to get your stuff into the hands of someone who wants it, and will frequently (not always) give you a fair price or pay your asking price if it makes sense.
I have heard this so many times myself. I dislike resellers? I wanna yell, hmmm do you want to sell stuff fast or do you want to all the work involved to list on Ebay.
Coordinated our annual neighborhood garage sale this past Saturday. I am a reseller and I use this to get rid of stale inventory and to encourage community. Our sale started at 7:30. We had the aggressive buyers waiting at 6am. They ducked under our caution tape, blocked the road picked stuff out of other peoples piles and all kinds of crappy behaviour. But, I sold them a lot of stuff at a bargain price and then we could relax and enjoy the rest of the sale. In the end, we hauled a truck load of unsold treasures to the closest thrift store and my eBay shed feels so much better. I felt a bit ambushed by their behavior but I got rid of stuff.
Years ago, I had some folks pull up to my yard sale. Mind you, I *was* trying to get rid of things, but I also told them, 'C'mon, I'm also trying to make a *little* bit of money as well and not to be ripped off because I understood the value of things we had." They offered a set price, we agreed. Basically, they ripped us off, however, not completely. I told them the set price which we all agreed on. But, they wanted to pay $100 then and then the rest when they could. I gave them a set deadline. And so much per week to pay or I'll get rid of the stuff myself. They paid $100 for the stuff they got that day. Never called me back. I didn't mind because they didn't get everything they wanted. Years later, we ran into one of them at the store and they apologized for not coming and getting the rest of the stuff.
In the late 80’s my friend and I bought furniture and housing decor to furnish our first homes. We went to a wealthy area of Orange County where the residents were continually renovating and or redesigning their homes. The incredible deals we got! Of course, that was before the internet and reselling online. It was amazing how these wealthy people were so willing to get rid of items that were still selling for hundreds in the retail stores. Those were the days.

I am proud to be an invader. I take equipment (loupe, cellphone, and IKEA bag). I do not take books. That would be ridiculous! I do not arrive more than 5-10 minutes early and I ask if it is o.k. to come in early if they look ready for business. I do not pace. I do not jump gates (I could not do this if I tried!). I agree with everything you said. If the seller and buyer are happy with a price, there is nothing bad about the deal. They could always look up the going rates for things before their sales if they want, just like we do.

People like this have no class or morals and dont care.
I am now a reseller amateur level with this n that in around my home. In the past I have hoped my yard sale event would bring resellers absolutely because if I can sell out to an individual and be relieved of all the work. Yes please hope for a reseller to attend. I've been called by people inquiring and sold to them day before the yard sale. One thing I know is an honest reseller will make it worth my time. As a reseller I will exercise my own personal experience taught to me by an honest reseller. Keep us informed Kevin. Appreciate you and the time and work you bring. ❤
On the other hand… to the writer of the “vulture” article… ask him what he would suggest resellers do to suffice his conflict with resellers??? What would make him happy? What? Does he want us to go to the sale and see a good deal and try to pay more for it so we make less? It’s a competition, just like everything else in the world! I mean his complete grievances are on how he despises “ garage sale vultures”… easy fix…DON’T GO! Either he got burned by selling things way too cheap at his own garage sale, and then saw the amazing prices some things are worth on a later show ( he could have looked the items up himself, as we all do….or he is just a very unhappy person! Thanks for sharing story Kevin!

What is your weekly t-shirt budget. As a 80's/90's kid I think you have the greatest collection I've ever seen. I'm sorry if I'm a broken record about it.
What a great thumbnail would be for a Trash to Cash Podcast with all 3 of you with vulture faces! XD On a more serious note, the irony is in that the person who wrote that article is practicing vulture journalism.
I don't believe in garage sale vultures. Everyone is responsible for doing their own due diligence in regards to value/cost of items being bought or sold.
😆 ok, I'm not great at yard sales, and honestly, I have a hard time finding them unless I happen to drive by a sign... but if they priced it and I paid it out, they accepted the offer... what's the problem?
Basic question…how do you ship those game, lego products? Do you usually cut down bigger boxes? I started reselling last year because my mom moved into memory care and she had been a huge thrifter with lots of things so I thought I would sell some of her stuff. I found out that I LOVE reselling and have started sourcing all over the place. I have some odd shaped and bigger items now and sometimes struggle with how to pack and ship them in the most economical way possible. Thanks for all of your great info Kevin. I started watching you last year and have learned so much!
Hey Kevin, so the millions and millions of people out there that buy something at a clearance sale at a very discounted sale at Walmart target or somewhere like that they are all vultures too because we are not paying a higher price for something. getting a very good deal on something.
You might be a vulture if....you're me, according to the article writer.(LOL) I tend to get there early; as a jewelry "girl" if you don't get there early you get nothing. (If there's anything to get, which these days there usually isn't.) I'll make a bulk buy if there's one to be had..good luck these days although it's happened. There's a loupe in my purse, but I usually just pull my glasses down and read marks. Most regulars here are collectors or resellers, and we buy a LOT. Do we want gold for costume prices..doesn't everybody if they're honest about it? If you don't want to sell gold as costume, check things first! The regulars ask politely and do NOT bang on doors or enter unbidden; there's a limit. On the other hand: There's a lady (or female) here whose real name I don't know and honestly am just as glad. She's perpetually rude to anyone she thinks is a competitor, which is everyone, and rude to the sellers too. She's always looking for valuables, and chews people down from prices that were already cheap. Not happy when she can't. She's only happy if she thinks she's getting one up on YOU and I've yet to meet another regular in this area who has a kind word to say about her or the guy she lives with. Zero. Me either, and that takes real work. There are others out there looking for a good deal, but there's a limit. She goes over the local one with great regularity. I like turkey vultures; they clean up things we don't want to touch. Her? Vultures don't want to be associated with her.
I was in my favorite local charity thrift shop and I overheard one of the workers refer to resellers as vultures. I thought, once I’ve paid for it and it’s mine it shouldn’t matter to anyone what I do with it.
I went to a sale, got there early, waited in my car till almost the time it started. Made a line when someone else got there, the lady said I could come in early, but when I got in there, most everything I had saw in the pictures that I wanted was gone. She said she sold it the day before. If I had known that, I would not have wasted my time on this sale. THAT is rude and wrong. The lady should have stuck to the time, day she said.
There are good and bad apples everywhere. Some garage sellers string their web, hoping to catch and rip buyers off. They know their designer handbags, video games, and jewelry are fake, or an item shown on the box is not the same item inside the box, or something has been broken but repaired and won't disclose this information.
Omg I had time for 2 cups of coffee before the article was finished some people have A-LOT of TIME on their hands to wag their tongue so long 😛🤪😜😛😋😍 I’m glad Kevin doesn’t pay any attention to these rants he’s a good person trying to raise a family pay his bills and have fun 🙏🙏🙏
In reality most unsold items end up in the landfill. Garage sale sellers are trying to make a few bucks n clear out some space. I think they are happy to sell to anyone that has cash in hand . They set the price and they decide if a discount is given etc. I dont see where the problem is.
I think when we are knowledgable about any topic, we can often lose sight of what the layman knows about it. You're tending here to think that everyone is thinking as a reseller would (i.e. from a position of knowledge that the items are worth a lot more, but it's more convenient to sell at a garage sale OR that they simply don't care how much they're worth and just want rid). That isn't the case, and I think where people do end up feeling uncomfortable is when it is clear that someone, through no fault of their own (perhaps an elderly person who has no internet access) doesn't know what their items are worth, and wouldn't sell them so cheaply if they did know the value. That, to me, is where things start getting uncomfortable. I can see in those cases why people feel resellers 'take advantage' of people.
I don't agree with the article. Reselling is your profession. Of course you want to find items you can make a profit from. People are having yard sales to get rid of stuff they no longer want. The person having the yard sale can always just say no.
As someone who has had many garage sales, and will be having another in the spring… PLEASE come and rip me off. Buy every last item so I don’t have to post a curb alert or haul the leftovers to goodwill. I hope you resell it all and make a million bucks.
To the person that called you a vulture.I have one thing to say to them ~Jealous much??? Get up off your lazy butt and see how much work reselling really is !!
I have 300+ items listed that sell maybe once or twice a week (comics). I use the 250 free listings almost instantly and I pay the .35 insertion fees via my cashback and Survey Junkie rewards. Should I just open up a store or pay the insertion fees (which I think would cost less monthly)?
When you sell expired ink cartridges, because you can't test them, do you ever have buyers open them and then say they are dried up? What do you do if this has happened? I have had numerous opportunities to pick up ink cartridges and have not bought them because of that scenario. Even if they return them, there is no way to test them to be sure it wasn't just buyer's remorse.
Yeah, Ive had people try to pick through my wagon, when Im stopped at a table at the Flea. Also some try to cut a deal with me, even before i BOUGHT the piece. It can be ridiculous.

I mostly buy from thrift stores, church stores and buy at the price they set. All of their profits come from donated items FREE. Are they also vultures? Looks like that writer needs to do a bit of introspection. Perhaps they were wronged at a yard sale and felt compelled to write that little “hit” piece. A little southern saying…”bless your heart”.😂😂
I rarely stop at garage sales, but this last summer I stopped at a unbelievable antique garage sale, now I know I’ll be at least trying to make a effort to try to stop at more, I stopped going to garage sales after I had a guy take my pile I was buying.
I just had a yard sale today because I needed to clear out a bunch of stuff. Do you know who gave me the most business? Resellers. None of my neighbors came by and none of the “casual” buyers give me any “good vibes”.
Good heavens. They make it sound like the freaking mafia invaded little house on the prairie’s yard sale. These are probably the same click bait sites telling you your Princess beanie babies will pay for your retirement. Don’t get me started on the rest 😅
FB market place can be a big pain. Tried to give away a big box of free groceries. Clearly stated it had to be picked up, Had so many people that wasted my time interested back and for messages then they would ask if I could deliver. Found a lady who would deliver for a small cost. Everyone of the wanters said that was to much money for almost $200 worth of groceries. So asked the lady who was willing to deliver for just about her cost if she could use it. Her's now to do with what she wants. Also many buyer think your time isn't important.
The amount of stuff that goes dumpster /landfill from private parties, businesses, and even thrift stores is mind boggling...any troll who thinks you are ripping people off is sadly mistaken
It gets tiring people always complaining about resellers. I worked at a grocery store during thanksgiving and we ran out of mince meat pies. My boss gave me money and had me ho to walmart and buy 30 mince meat pies for resell. My hubby is retired but works at a grocery store now. Some lady comes in and buys ALL of the shrimp when its on sale. For resell. Whats the difference? Theres all kinds of reselling going on. We arent vultures. 😂
Vultures "ripping off sellers": any item is only 'worth' what can be achieved in the circumstances. If a seller wants to get eBay prices they are free to go ahead and list it there. Since listing is now free (for private sales in the UK) the barriers are low to entry. If sellers want the convenience (and lack of fees) of a garage sale (or car boot sale here) then they have to either accept a lower price or still be sitting on their goods at the end of the day. Resellers address a national or international audience, pay platform fees, accept the risks and costs of shipping and take responsibility for any errors or flaws. We trade on reputation; however flawed the eBay feedback system, it still gives some reassurance to buyers. By contrast, how many yard sale venders are going to refund that VCR 30 days later that "was working when last used" when it actually does nothing other than chew tapes?
These types of writers will find anything that they can twist around to try and get readers. Garage sales are to make some cash while getting rid of stuff. If people come and want it cheaper, the seller can just negotiate the price or just say no to the buyer. Who cares who comes to buy your stuff, you got rid of it and made some money in the process. Say no to buyers, and you can take it right back into your house or send it to GW and GW will just ask for high prices. This writer is Ridiculous and all the things that they are saying about selling things is a positive and they make it a negative.
Its the gloating, constantly whipping out phones to google image stuff and try to lowball and ask for lower pricing on already low prices (KNOWING WHAT YOU WILL GET OVERALL). Im a reseller myself and i see it all the time when i go to garage sales (i live in the same area as you). Overall most people are easy going but social media has killed trust because (no offense to youtubers) a lot of yall use your platforms as a means to feel entitled to stuff because you have a camera. On the flip side, reselling is a lot of work and if you are hosting a yard sale you need to expect people to flip your items. If you are worried someone will make more than you, you are already setting yourself up for failure.
People have to be bored or super jealous to pick on folks making some money. Both parties are making money. I’ve said it before, if a seller under sells an item it is on the seller not the buyer with a good eye.
i wont post a link but if you search "Heckin Steve Cindys house " or "Heckin steve worst garage sale" that video shows some real garage sale vultures. Video title is "Horde of Resellers VS Cindy's Garage Sale LOL"
It is not the job of the person shopping a garage sale to educate that person on what they have. You want to maximize profit as a garage sale host then do the leg work, sell it online to millions of potential customers.
If I wanted to pay full or near value price I could sit at home and purchase it online. I wouldn’t be spending tons of time or using all the gas driving around to find things.
Billionaires don't go to garage sales. The author of the article is ignorant. "Vulture" is offensive. Resellers are just trying to pay their rent and buy groceries.
Good morning how is it going Pond Scum just thought I’d leave a comment you Leach LMAO just messing with you buddy. WOW. the comments R starting out harsh today. I’m just messing with you. You know we love you, buddy. Have a good day and keep those good tips coming and by the way, put on your boxing gloves today seems like you’re gonna need them. LOL
Hi Kevin. Love your videos but... I define a garage sale vulture as anyone who offers a seller 10 percent or less of the expected resale price. I sometimes see you doing that. Rather than giving to Charity, it might be better to just give more to the seller. Why rob Peter to pay Paul?
Is this where we pretend sellers at garage and estate sales are sad victims because they don't own smart phones and can't sell online themselves? They aren't. They don't want to do that. They just want to offload, make a little cash and not fill another landfill. Those sellers don't need armchair social media heroes screwing up their quick money gig. And, don't get me started on the huge revenue thrifts make on resellers who, in turn, provide a service by selling people the unique and/or less expensive items they're looking for online. There's no crying in business, so quit your whining.
That author has a false romanticized notion of garage sales. Maybe that's the way they perceived them when they were younger and that's how the sales hardened in their memory, but sales have never been some wholesome nearby neighbor thing. I started garage saling with my mom in the 80's. We got out the classified section of the paper and a map and we laid out a path throughout the whole county. We were buying as collectors and as people looking to save big money on needed things.
That Article is very one sided. How about the yard sale sellers that dont price items, and read you and up prices because you look interested. Us resellers need to have good poker faces to not get taken advantage also. So yard sale sellers also can take advantage us pickers!
Question. I have a multiple quantities of a relatively rare item. I have been listing 1 at a time. How many days should I wait between posting the next one after a sale? Or it really doesn't matter.
What a ridiculous argument, if they set the price and you pay that price it's 100& fair even if you barter and they agree on a lower price it's still fair. They are talking like resellers back up their cars load it up and take off without paying lol. Also resellers do a ton of research to know the profits margins which is public knowledge that anyone can learn, if they're too lazy to research their products then that's on them. Nobody told they have to sell at garage sales either, if they want full price for items then sell online like resellers and wait for the item to sell, but the whole point of a garage sale is to move everything in one day which is only happening if prices are super low... I bet the only people whining are people who had garage sales then saw someone local selling the same item on market place for twice as much lol but most garage sale sellers just want their stuff gone and could care less.
What a joke, the price you pay is 100% fair, not even close, he haggles on something they are asking $5.00 when he k ows he can resell for $100, very fair huh
lol get your buddy's to set up a road block at the end of the street so nobody else can get to the garage sale. Before the internet people used to rip down the garage sale signs so nobody else would know about them Muahaha
Sold 392 units vs 387 from last year so flat in comparison of this years growth for my store. But my ASP is much higher this year. $17653 vs $15677 last year. Continuing to buy a ton of inventory to help offset my tax liability.
Whoever wrote this message, you should be ashamed of yourself. You have no idea what you’re talking about and your stereotyping a whole group of people on one experience you may have had or may have just seen on TH-cam. I can’t tell you how many families have thanked me for the amount of money I spent at their garage sale because they needed it for costs related to a family member that passed away and the money was crucial for that family and that’s just one example but this is why election went the way it did is this type of thinking?

Turns out some people showed at 6am which is rude in my opinion, and even worse he said couple people showed up friday knocking on his door asking if they can look and buy!

@@commonwealthflipper at any rate.. ‘She’… just needs to remove herself from such disparaging situations such as putting herself in the role of “ Community Garage Sale Nazi” ( I know I shouldn’t use that word… but I was playing off of the “Soup Nazi” on Seinfeld.. nothing political ) “ No soup for you!!” 😉
She definitely is taking her experiences to heart.. she has calculatedly thought out her observations and as far as I can tell, she’s the only one that is suffering from these, so called garage sale “vultures”! Seriously this woman needs another hobby!
They used to sell those "doctor bags" at the base exchange (the PX) on Army bases. A lot to trainees going though boot camp bought them.

@@carlagraca6022 so true
I don't believe in garage sale vultures. Everyone is responsible for doing their own due diligence in regards to value/cost of items being bought or sold.
😆 ok, I'm not great at yard sales, and honestly, I have a hard time finding them unless I happen to drive by a sign... but if they priced it and I paid it out, they accepted the offer... what's the problem?
I have never seen a gate jumper but I will have to say “We yardsalers are the most aggressive drivers in my area, even worse than teenagers”.
lol. Fair
As far as actual vultures, GameStop and gamexchange is far worse for pennies on the dollar.
Only for the hedgies.
@@Gorgo800XP "Hedgies"
I voltured a doctor bag like that from the 70s in pristine condition for 4 dollars and it sold within 4 weeks for 75 plus shipping.
It’s easy to spot them. Neck beard and go pro
Sorry I don't agree with you
Sounds like DAVE! 😮😮😮😊😂
I love how they cry about dealing with buyers for a single day. We do that every day.
Additional to my other comment... if I have a yard sale I just want it gone 😆
I don't agree with the article. Reselling is your profession. Of course you want to find items you can make a profit from. People are having yard sales to get rid of stuff they no longer want. The person having the yard sale can always just say no.
I have NEVERRRR experienced someone jumping a fence or pacing any yard sale 😂😂😂😂
As someone who has had many garage sales, and will be having another in the spring… PLEASE come and rip me off. Buy every last item so I don’t have to post a curb alert or haul the leftovers to goodwill.
I hope you resell it all and make a million bucks.
I think you should make a t-shirt with No 🚫 Vultures on it 😂😂😂.
Vultures perform an important and necessary role in the environment, like resellers...be a proud vulture 🦸♂️
To the person that called you a vulture.I have one thing to say to them ~Jealous much??? Get up off your lazy butt and see how much work reselling really is !!
I had issues where people advertise their garage sale. Then when I go to buy something they say it an estate sale, which they will charge tax.
@@danbeaulieu5567 what a jerk. I hate bully’s
A lot of people think I'm supposed to be a place to source from.
The only Vultures I've seen at garage sales have had is the people who 5 finger discount items.
Q4..filled with lowballers this year 😏
Im still waiting for my Q4 to start. Been DEAD for me on Ebay. Mercari has been doing Ok.
Say no to buyers, and you can take it right back into your house or send it to GW and GW will
just ask for high prices.
If you are worried someone will make more than you, you are already setting yourself up for failure.
sounds like a jealous person to me
Would Dave be considered a Vulture, or a Grizzly Bear? 😮😊

People have to be bored or super jealous to pick on folks making some money. Both parties are making money. I’ve said it before, if a seller under sells an item it is on the seller not the buyer with a good eye.
i dont care whos buying, if we are both happy with the price, who cares?

i wont post a link but if you search "Heckin Steve Cindys house " or "Heckin steve worst garage sale" that video shows some real garage sale vultures. Video title is "Horde of Resellers VS Cindy's Garage Sale LOL"
Its not the price of the product..its about what others are willing to pay
Great video in the last picker video you picked up a geek vape kit but it didn’t show what it sold for
Yeah. Never looked it up. Gave it to a friend.
Thanks
Also so many more of the yard sales are storage building buyer, pallet buy yard sales, and a lot less of the actual family yard sales. Just saying
Kevin, The resellers in PA act like that and the men are the worst. The men in PA will break a woman's arm to get what they want.
I must confess too, everyone! I think I'm a garage sale voucher! 😢😢
The writer of that article needs to look up the definition of “Fair Market Value”. Period.
Billionaires don't go to garage sales. The author of the article is ignorant. "Vulture" is offensive. Resellers are just trying to pay their rent and buy groceries.

Hi Kevin. Love your videos but... I define a garage sale vulture as anyone who offers a seller 10 percent or less of the expected resale price. I sometimes see you doing that. Rather than giving to Charity, it might be better to just give more to the seller. Why rob Peter to pay Paul?
Vultures 😂 ... who wrote that? A 3 year old 🤦🏼♀️
Is this where we pretend sellers at garage and estate sales are sad victims because they don't own smart phones and can't sell online themselves?
I'm A Vulnerable Vulture 😊
Just another angry person seeking more divisiveness.
That Article is very one sided. How about the yard sale sellers that dont price items, and read you and up prices because you look interested. Us resellers need to have good poker faces to not get taken advantage also. So yard sale sellers also can take advantage us pickers!
I'm all good with vibe, but the person used it far too much in the article. Sounds like someone my son's age trying to sound our age.

Yes
Why point out a vultures faults....a true vulture doesn't care
