The Vikings shouldn't have that tough of a time lighting up the Lions defense after watching Darnold put up career high passing yards against us and our vaunted defense.
Vikes O falls asleep when they get a lead. Lions could play a rope-a-dope on the vikes and beat them late. Hope vikes stay focused and gets thier ball control game rolling.
Sam being more acclimated with the offense this time will be huge. The last game the Vikings make that 3rd and 4 we win. Sam threw his worst pass . A laser over Jefferson head.
It’s a blast. We need to remember if we come up short, which statistically speaking is likely, the fun is in the journey. No matter what this has been a good year.
Actually, the Vikings doing long drives to score could be advantageous. Draining the clock, shortening the game eliminates touches for the Lions offense, reducing their ability to put up a bazillion points. The best way to limit a great offense is to not give them the ball as much.
Purdy and Dotson put up 400 yds , often to wide open receivers with yards of gap More passing than they have recently and thats with 2 picks(1bad throw nowhere near 49er receiver) Big upgrade to Vikings offense this week......they are so thin in the secondary
This game is 1st of many to come between Detroit, and Minnesota, and even Green Bay! The next 4 or 5 seasons will see Detroit, Green Bay, and Minnesota, going nose to nose to nose, in many games like this! NFC North will rule the NFC, in next 4 seasons!
Meh, Vikings were 15-1 in 1998. Had Home field advantage and then blew it to the Falcons in the Championship game. If Adrian Peterson doesn't fumble 6 times, Vikings probably win in 09.
You can’t play Detroit like you play other teams. The way they play offense is freakish and it works for them. We need to keep their offense off the field. Be patient with the run, before unleashing the explosive plays. Mix it up, and be creative; just keep Darnold on the field as long as possible. Time of possession is going to be critical. Not sure we want an all out shootout.
KOC is playing chess and a bit more savvy than people think. I think the Nailor targets last week were to force the Lions this week to cover him. That opens wide gaps in Detroits defense too allow many man to man looks on offense.
Another nervous item-our punter . If we need to punt, Wright needs to flip field and when expected, pin them inside 10. Too many punts give opponent field position and rarely this year has he pinned someone deep
Every rare once in awhile when I'm playing golf I get in the zone. The way Sam is throwing the ball with precision and confidence is like he's in that same zone every week.
The only way the Vikes can win is to go in a shootout and open the playbook and take advantage of the talents of their offensive weapons on a Lions defense hit by injuries. No way the Vikes defense will stop the Lions offense, but it is possible the defense can slow them down and maybe get a couple stops or turnovers. Should be fun to watch this marquee match-up. Cheers!
Vikings win and it will be entertaining as heck! I am really looking forward to this game, though it will not start before 2am local time here in Austria. SKOL!
Vikings offense will need to score 38 to 42 points to win this game. Lions are a historically good offense and can score on anyone in the NFL. Darnold will need to pull off the game of his life. Let's hope the lights aren't too bright.
I don't know if I agree. The Lions have been putting up points on beat up defense in Bills and niners. We should be able to hold them in the low 30s again. However if not watching the niners game there D is so bad I think Darnold can put up 42. The Falcons defense was better when the Vikings played them then Lions defense now.
3rd and long, Flo needs to move up intermediate zone to not give up too many yards. If coverage is soft and Lions get under 4 yards to go, they aren’t punting.
To all of the Vikings fans out there who believe that this is our year...Let me tell you a story....I'm a loooong suffering Vikings fan from Miami FL..and back in the day when Sam Darnold came out of the draft I was talking to a co worker of mine at the time who just happened to be a Jets fan and he asked me what I thought of the pick and I told him that I thought they had lucked out when they were able to get him.....sometime later I don't exactly remember when i was talking to another co worker about the state of the Dolphins defense and I remember saying that I thought Andrew van Ginkel was a helluva player and when the whole Brian Flores deal was going on I remember commenting that I thought they were losing a helluva of a coach. The stars have aligned...WE WILL BE SUPER BOWL CHAMPS THIS YEAR. It's in the bag 😮 ohh and did I forget to mention the Florida Panthers won the Stanley Cup Finals last year year?.....
I'm not getting your logic. I am a really long suffering fan from the 70's, and have seen failure after failure. KOC and KAM are building something special here, though I think it has little to do with Miami, those players, or Flores. I will be pleasantly surprised if it does.
@dw2367 What I meant is like what are the chances of all three of them coming to the Vikings at the same time. All of them could have signed elsewhere but yet they signed with us and all three have been MAJOR CONTRIBUTORS to the success of the team this year. It's like fate intervened and said: here I'm going to put these guys in your future to help you win a Super Bowl cause God knows you've suffered enough as fans and you deserve to know how it feels to finally win one....just sayin...'
In typical media fashion, they obsess about Minnesota’s one score games, likening it to 2022 though completely different, but don’t even mention it for other teams. Detroit has 7 one-score games this season, including against Ari, Chi, Hou and SF (while they were bad). The Eagles also have 7 one-score wins this year. Including the Saints away, and Browns, Jags and Panthers at home. This isn’t some sort of an anomaly.
Historically when media jumps on the Vikings they crash and burn , but I'm so confident they will get home field through out the playoffs by beating the Detroit Lions Sunday Night !!!!!
The Det secondary injury impact has hit hard,, you have seen their yds given up vs pass jump dramatically last 3 gms, esp after their best CB Carlton left with a broken jaw before halftime in Buf game Det has shown resilience next man this really decimated their secondary People (rightfully-they have just gone on winning) over estimating the lions defense rt now still have good players BUT you play smart on offense you can dice them up really bad With repsect to a very good defense still, but except the key guys hurt has finally hit the tipping pt( esp Carlton) Against a deep offensive team ,dont be surprised if Vikings blow past Lions
I would argue you don’t want to have 3 play scoring drives as the Vikings. I know you’ll take points however you can get them, but I think they should play the keep away game. If they keep the ball from the Lions offense that’s how they win this game. Skol!
There whole D line, most of their LB and at least 1 of their CB. They have like 15 guys on IR or something stupid like that. They may have Anzalone (LB)back though. So yea it's bad....
I just don’t see us having 12 play drives against this d lol plus you know KOC is gonna hunt down field and we gonna have a ton of big plays, it’s just what he does
I want Detroit to put three guys on Jets, and then Darnold throws TD's to Hock, Adds, Speedy, Sherfield, Powell, and Oliver. And one running TD for Jones. That should do it... 😛 PS: Yo Sports Dad - It's easy to be all-in when you've played the whole season on house money. 2024 was supposed to be the 'Don't worry, be happy' season where Sam Darnold would provide fireworks for both sides to enjoy, like an even more reckless version of Nick Mullens. Now the question will be, can Darnold do better than Nick Mullens did against the Lions? Pretty easy bet.
The fact the game is already historic bc it’s the first time two 14-win teams playing each other, along with everything else makes it biggest regular season Vikings game ever.
Limit mistakes. No offensive turnovers, few penalties (and none in critical situations). Defense must be disciplined. Detroit loves it’s gadget plays and Gibbs makes you pay if you over pursue or don’t maintain your lanes. Special teams can’t make any mistakes or flat out bad plays on returns. They have the makeup to win in Detroit, and frankly, in the playoffs. This is a well balanced team with few glaring weaknesses.
I have a pre-game hot take: Tonight has the feel like the Thanksgiving game in 98’. This game has the that kind of stage and that kind of swell. My hot take is The Vikings will win so decisively like in 98’ the football world will wake up and take notice and respect (finally) THE Vikings of Minnesota!!!!! SKOL
Young shouldn’t be included on that list, or at least have an asterisk. He was a top pick in the Supplemental Draft, not the regular draft. While that draft was loaded because of the USFL players that were available, it still wasn’t the regular draft in terms of prestige.
Jones is already banged up, if he goes down in this game that is gonna be very bad for the Vikes. I like their chances against any team A LOT less in the post season against any team they play
@@Andrew-gy4vx You gotta at least try to establish the running game to open up the passing game, especially since they’ll be expecting the pass. Also Jones is a great pass catching RB. That’s what I’m sayin. I was more nervous for the Packers game. Vikes D just need a few stops and it’s a wrap imo
I’d agree. And I trust the Vikings’ defense to do more than the Lions’. Ipso facto, Vikings should win

Win or lose guys they are going to the playoffs. Great season either way.
Vikings have had plenty of great seasons throughout their history. Fans are tired of the choking.
Hopefully the crowd noise doesn't have much effect. They'll be nuts. Minnesota vs Buffalo Super Bowl baby!

More like Custers last stand. Darnold isn't a general.
