I keep hoping to find a field blewitt .in 35 years of foraging i have only found them once. There were 100s. This was in Somerset. I live in nw spain now and wood blewitts are very common. I live in hope of a field blewitt. Fingers crossed -if it ever stops raining!

Thanks for the great video. I have been watching most of those you made :) As you mentioned, I also read that many people in UK eat the Clouded agaric but we don't anymore in Italy. There was a recent discovery (few years ago) which I read on some Italian websites for mushrooms that these mushrooms contain three types of toxins. Two of them can be eliminated by boiling them first and throwing away the water but the other one accumulates in the body and for some people that have eaten these mushroom for years it got to the point where it was fatal. I just wanted to add this comment so that people that read it hopefully will stop eating it.

Thanks a lot for this video ! 😊 I started foraging for mushrooms and eating some clouded agaric a few weeks ago and I have been fine too. They are very abundant where I live so I am glad they agree with my digestive system. I do clean them well and cook them well. 😊 I got some today and shall prepare them later, with some butter caps. 😊

I found a lonely Wood Blewit, a few days ago, which was weird..But the Field Blewit looks a bit more certain for consumption. I have been eating Scarlet Elf Cups though, such a delicate thing though..

Marlow, thanks so much! I am a keen amaetur fungi forager and would absolutely love to join a foraging course where a group go out and forage with an experienced forager and then as you discussed in this utube forcast, have a discussion to educate and safely inform. I hope one day you offer one near me. I am in Reading, Berkshire. Do let me know. Meanwhile, I will follow you and the rest of the crew at wild food UK. I found some field blewitts under a tree beside a meadow path and agree the distinctive lilac stem is a great assurance making the field blewitt a safe delicious bet.

Blewits have a lot of water in them. Try dry sautéing first, till they’re brown. It will boil off the excess water and make the texture firm and meaty. Then add butter, salt, herbs, shallots (et al) and cream. Delicious!

Nice video, thanks! I found some white mushrooms in my local woods last year and left them alone because I wasn't sure what they were... now I think they may have been clouded agarics so I'll go back this year and check! I usually have a pretty strong stomach so I'm hoping I'll be OK! I found my first field blewits last week - only a couple but they have such pretty stems and are really yummy! :-) By the way you guys should invest in a microphone gadget to eliminate the noise of the wind!! :-)
