Ichigo is truly a unique character. He got old man Zangetsu aka quincy powers from his mom side and as mother cares for his son, and so did old man Zangetsu cares for him and wanted him to be safe that's why restricting his powers, but helped him when needed. And on the other hand, every father teaches his son to not run from his problems and fights them face on, which is what Hollow Ichigo aka the real Zangetsu was teaching him. To fight, not to be weak or fall into despair.
There was some kind of motherly love from Zangetsu as he got his quincy powers from his mom. That's why old man Zangetsu cared so much for him and he hated it whenever Ichigo was in despair and it was raining in his world

Old man knew that if he didn't stop Ichigo m, he wilk be ultimately fighting him in the future and is going to get killed by his hands which he didn't wanted too. He really cared for Ichigo, like how a mother care for his son. And since he got his powers from his mom, that's why old man Zangetsu cared so much
