- Ustad Rashid Khan requires no introduction in the field of contemporary Hindustani Classical Music scene. Ustad Rashid Khan is considered as one of the legendary new age Hindustani Classical Vocalists who has spread the Indian Classical Music wave all over the world. The legendary Hindustani Classical Music Maestro Pt. Bhimsen Joshi once pointed out that with Contemporary singers like Rashid Khan the future of Hindustani Classical music is quite secure.
Ustad Rashid Khan hails from a legendary Indian Classical Music family. He hails from the famous Rampur Sahaswan Khayal Gharana. Rashid khan is the grandson of legendary Ustad Inayat Hussain Khan sahib who happened to be the founder of the Rampur Sahaswan Khayal Gharana. The Rampur-Sahaswan gayaki (style of singing) is closely related to the Gwalior gharana, which features medium-slow tempos, a full-throated voice and intricate rhythmic play. Ustad Rashid Khan includes the slow elaboration in his vilambit khayals in the manner of his maternal grand-uncle and also developed exceptional expertise in the use of sargams and sargam taankari (play on the scale). He is influenced with the style of Ustad Amir Khan and Pt. Bhimsen Joshi.
This particular album LIVE AT SUNNY TOWERS - VOL-3 is a very rare album that is part of a series of recordings done by Ustad Rashid Khan Live. In this album Khan Sahib has delivered a detailed khayal on Raag Behag. Ustad Rashid khan is quite uniquely famous for his Kheyals in Vilambit. Behag is a night time Raag that is usually sung in the second quarter of the night. Raag Behag belongs to the Bilaval Thaat. This is a very popular Raag used especially for marriages. Ustaad Rashid Khan shows his mastery over time signatures and melody through this Raag. This Private concert of Ustadji is a rare collection that is precious than many jewels for a connoisseur of Hindustani Classical Music.

Beautiful rendition of this traditional and popular raag by Ustadji. Undoubtedly he is one of the best vocalist produced by Sangeet Research Academy (SRA) of Kolkatta. He has sung this Bihag khyal bandish in very very slow (vilambit) ektal of 12 beats. His command on the raag is phenominal which makes him the great vocalist of today. God bless him.

Very few comments to legend's performances....this shows Nowadays people dont have patience to listen it and feel it understand it ....Now they listens rap which does not have any swaras in it🙂🙂

I am a classical tabla player and I am not very old I admire classical music , I studied about it from a small age . But what's really bad in raps we shou respect it and it's a myth that new generation dosent admire classical music.
In my opinion, we must not degrade other generes just to show superiority of Indian classical. I love Indian classical but love every genre, because every genre has its own beauty

Agreed fully. The way new masters are mixing water in milk, it seems after some time dhrupad and khayal will merge with semiclassical and called neo-classical.
