If Eminem dies, the hip-hop community will be devastated because a legend like him will never be born again. So appreciate him while he's still here. I know he gets the most, but he deserves so much more.

first listened to this at age 12, when he says the line " for these kids that don't have a thing", at the time I was the oldest brother of 4 with a crack head step father who beat my mom and I had no power to stop it, the line meant so much to me at the time that it was my only escape. that someone else knew what it was like to live in a reality that you felt like you couldn't escape from. and to wonder what you had done to deserve this type of life; it makes me break down in tears to this day because he was writing for people like m, people with all that rage built up inside but no way to let it out... thank God for slim

In eons gone by, the greatest poets and writers made books, wrote on scrolls, preached their wisdom to small groups of people...
Eminem evolved this into a modern development. He's probably thé most well-spoken artist out there, chose a pretty difficult music genre and is ácing it!
Another Eon from now, children might not only be studying the works of Shakespeare, Sartre etc, but also of Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem.
The imaging he projects with these teksts, is just of another world.
In terms of pure brilliance, i think you can name Eminem in 1 breath with the greatest writers and poets in history. He's one of them.
The fact that he made it SO big in the music industry, is a cherry on the cake.

The first verse sent chills down my spine. I hope someone listens to this and it helps them. He said “his step father hit him and he socked him back, and broke his nose”
I used to be hit by my step dad when I was a child. Every day while my mom worked. The day I finally hit him back and made him leak, he NEVER laid a finger on me again. I used to be thrown into my closet door, I got pulled out of a tree and almost broke my collar bone. I could go on and on. This was all while my dad was in the army overseas serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.
If I could take out one line in this song and try to recommend to a child growing in a similar situation, it would be that. Fight back. Don’t let your abuser feel the satisfaction of making you feel weak. Make them leak. Let the bitch taste his own blood

At 38, I understand that a 12-13 year old shouldnt have to fight a grown man. But what i still dont understand is why momma went and bailed him out. I got the best of him...finally. Then I got cold steel pressed against my forehead. I begged him... not for mercy, but to end my misery. Luckily my brother hid during the commotion and called 911. They came through the door just in time....i guess. They hauled him off, 24 hours later he back on the couch. He wasnt around much longer, but at least he got to see the scared little boy become strong and fearless.

@@maelperron_guerra4946 I think it means that at the time this song came out, rap and hip hop appeal was changing and evolving and also becoming part of the mainstream media( entertainment). Versus originally when it was more of a counter culture to the mainstream and the old school groups from the 80s and 90s were more about the streets than eminems era. In that sense, it is changing. Now within this era you have a lot of dangerous individuals( killers) who are now part of the mainstream media through the popularity of the music. Being around these types of people, eminem realizes that he is a sinner and makes mistakes but he doesn't kill and committ violent acts to gain respect, popularity, money etc. In this sense, his mind is a sanctum through which he is able to express his creativity and talent in music.

Dear Eminem(If you possibly read this),
I have been a fan of yours since your first song. It's been a long time that I have been waiting for your live concert. I am from a part of China, namely the city of Hong Kong. As a child I have listened to you for ages. Every time I feel sad I listen to your songs. They are so heart-warming. Thank you for these years, and thanks everyone who made this video possible.
I sincerely hope you could make a concert here in Hong Kong.
    Yours sincerely,
    Julius Ho

Hearing Eminem's internal conflict between being mad at people for wanting to censor him and at the same time, feeling frustrated about possibly having a bad influence on kids listening to him, is so interesting. It's like he argues both sides.

This song is a masterpiece lyrically. For millenials especially, those growing up and entering their teens in the end of the 90s and the early 00's, this music captured the cultural changes of that moment. The music that is the best right now comes from artists who wish to provide this current moment in time with music that impacts as hard as a song like this did in its own moment.

I remember hearing em when I was 6-8 years old and he dropped "Hi My Name Is", but I couldn't listen to it much at that time, and my grandparents who raised me didn't know who he was... Well, for Christmas in 5th grade, my Grandmother bough Curtain Call from this guy named Eminem for me. He couldn't be so bad, his name is Eminem like the candy... Lol. Anyway, I fell in love with his music on the way from East TN to Myrtle Beach SC to this song. This was the first song I sat and wrote the lyrics to and tried to understand, and I am so glad I did. His music helped me overcome a horrible drug addiction, breakup, etc... It's crazy to think that one little CD my grandmother bought me in 5th grade set the stage for my favorite artist of all time!

    • @Ochausis

He really did touch so many people in so many stages of life that he should always be regarded as one of the most influencial artists that ever lived.
I was never in a horrible spot like you were, but Eminem was the tune of my teens and early 20's. His actuality and honest approach to contemporary issues is ever present in his lyrics and none can spit them like him.
I bought The Eminem Show on a holiday in Czech Republic in 2002 when I was 15 and it was on constant repeat for at least a year before being well mixed with Linkin Park's Metheora album and System of a Down's Toxicity album!
I hope life is brighter for you today than back then!
