Versus originally when it was more of a counter culture to the mainstream and the old school groups from the 80s and 90s were more about the streets than eminems era. In that sense, it is changing. Now within this era you have a lot of dangerous individuals( killers) who are now part of the mainstream media through the popularity of the music. Being around these types of people, eminem realizes that he is a sinner and makes mistakes but he doesn't kill and committ violent acts to gain respect, popularity, money etc. In this sense, his mind is a sanctum through which he is able to express his creativity and talent in music.

For millenials especially, those growing up and entering their teens in the end of the 90s and the early 00's, this music captured the cultural changes of that moment. I remember hearing em when I was 6-8 years old and he dropped "Hi My Name Is", but I couldn't listen to it much at that time, and my grandparents who raised me didn't know who he was... Well, for Christmas in 5th grade, my Grandmother bough Curtain Call from this guy named Eminem for me. He couldn't be so bad, his name is Eminem like the candy... Lol. Anyway, I fell in love with his music on the way from East TN to Myrtle Beach SC to this song. This was the first song I sat and wrote the lyrics to and tried to understand, and I am so glad I did. His music helped me overcome a horrible drug addiction, breakup, etc... It's crazy to think that one little CD my grandmother bought me in 5th grade set the stage for my favorite artist of all time!
He really did touch so many people in so many stages of life that he should always be regarded as one of the most influencial artists that ever lived. I was never in a horrible spot like you were, but Eminem was the tune of my teens and early 20's. His actuality and honest approach to contemporary issues is ever present in his lyrics and none can spit them like him. I bought The Eminem Show on a holiday in Czech Republic in 2002 when I was 15 and it was on constant repeat for at least a year before being well mixed with Linkin Park's Metheora album and System of a Down's Toxicity album! Versus originally when it was more of a counter culture to the mainstream and the old school groups from the 80s and 90s were more about the streets than eminems era. In that sense, it is changing. Now within this era you have a lot of dangerous individuals( killers) who are now part of the mainstream media through the popularity of the music. Being around these types of people, eminem realizes that he is a sinner and makes mistakes but he doesn't kill and committ violent acts to gain respect, popularity, money etc. In this sense, his mind is a sanctum through which he is able to express his creativity and talent in music.

All I knew was that Eminem made these songs, and his songs made me sad, happy and gave me emotions. I didn’t understand why he wrote these, but 5 years later, I understood the lyrics. I never knew his lyrics had such deep meanings. Maybe that’s why kids don’t like these songs anymore and stick to listening to new mumble rappers.

Arguably the greatest song by Eminem in my opinion. Real and raw on a level never heard before -- AND...my most favourite song by him on a personal level.
This song is a masterpiece lyrically. For millenials especially, those growing up and entering their teens in the end of the 90s and the early 00's, this music captured the cultural changes of that moment. The music that is the best right now comes from artists who wish to provide this current moment in time with music that impacts as hard as a song like this did in its own moment.

My childhood is full of Eminem saving me from shit I didn't know how to cope with.
I remember hearing em when I was 6-8 years old and he dropped "Hi My Name Is", but I couldn't listen to it much at that time, and my grandparents who raised me didn't know who he was... Well, for Christmas in 5th grade, my Grandmother bough Curtain Call from this guy named Eminem for me. He couldn't be so bad, his name is Eminem like the candy... Lol. Anyway, I fell in love with his music on the way from East TN to Myrtle Beach SC to this song. This was the first song I sat and wrote the lyrics to and tried to understand, and I am so glad I did. His music helped me overcome a horrible drug addiction, breakup, etc... It's crazy to think that one little CD my grandmother bought me in 5th grade set the stage for my favorite artist of all time!
He really did touch so many people in so many stages of life that he should always be regarded as one of the most influencial artists that ever lived.
I was never in a horrible spot like you were, but Eminem was the tune of my teens and early 20's. His actuality and honest approach to contemporary issues is ever present in his lyrics and none can spit them like him.
I bought The Eminem Show on a holiday in Czech Republic in 2002 when I was 15 and it was on constant repeat for at least a year before being well mixed with Linkin Park's Metheora album and System of a Down's Toxicity album!
