Graham Gooch, Broad and Lamb were among the best English players to play against the West Indies. Gower was dangerous, elegant but airy! Great to watch what happened in these Tests. I recall loads of media excuses about England lacking pride, technique and guts. They didn't fully appreciate the calibre facing them. Too many quicks... dangerous...slow over rate...!! Class will out! Enjoying watching, not fully aware of what happens next. Many thanks.
Golden moments by way of coverage. When the BBC had a lot of quality sport. Great West Indian team in action, under Richards. 4 pronged class pace v Gooch, Gatting, Gower, Broad... TOP English team.
That was a pretty good England side at the start of this series. Then the vicious British tabloids went after Gatting, got him fired and wrecked his career. He was forced to resign the captaincy over some ridiculous lies - or, rather, he was sacked, very shabbily - and he was inexplicably dropped. The rest of the series fell to pieces. The selectors went increasingly mad as the rubber went on. Their madness started with making John Emburey captain out of the blue, combined with some weird selections for the second test. The West Indies duly won the second test and after that, chaos reigned. Lunacy. Things only got worse in lead up to what became the '89 Ashes catastrophe. To be a 16/17 years old cricket fanatic and England fan in those days was certainly interesting, that's for sure.
The days before Dr's. The days of class bowling and class commentary... Amid double sweaters.... and the best of all, Maco!!

Hello Richard, glad you are enjoying. Thanks for watching, DARREN
Don't forget Robin Smith. When he came in he played the Windies quicks very well too.
3 years later against the same attack at headingley Graham gooch carried his bat and scored 154*

Thanks so much for uploading, I’m really enjoying these matches over a glass of wine each night. Fantastic action from the golden age of test cricket.
Hello Alan, glad you are enjoying. Thanks for watching, DARREN
Somehow that era seems so depressing: the slide into the present mire, socially and economically.
Lovely to see Gooch and Gower speaking after it all went wrong between them!
Courtney was class! Ambrose, class... and yet to reach priiiime!! Thanks for this.

Yes, thank-you!
Stoic England! Fine defensive play. They could have gone down like nine-pins!
