Still trying to figure out how this works. I’ve seen several posts that says CB has clinched a spot in the Derby. Do they clinch once they get a certain amount of points?
They don't clinch by points, but for the last 10 years, 25 or more points gets you in. So with 60 points he is basically guaranteed a spot if healthy. Some years horses with 5 points get in. It goes by the 20 horses with the most points who enter the race. But some years the horses with points get injured or do not want to run in the Kentucky Derby.

Before u discount other Bafferts-Justify first race mid Feb-Next effort Allw in March-and Justify won 1 prep race before winning the triple crown.
