hahah Seems like you guys love Zip Tape as much as i do!!!! That stuff is great for everything...
FYI - If you ever tear your pants at work put some zip tape on the inside.... I have had a zip tape patch on for at least 6 months that last through all washing and drying!!!!

Replaced after 25 years?? WOW. My family has a cottage in the highlands of Scotland that was built in the 18th C. The slates are still the original. They need adjusted every now and again but to my knowledge they’ve never been replaced.

3 years ago we had a new roof put on our old house. We had some repairs done the day before, which included the replacing some of the sheathing on the roof. They covered it up decent enough, but an hour after they left a nasty storm came through, blew off the temporary cover, and dumped buckets of rain. I had to throw a tarp up in the attack, and found a fish tank pump and hose to pump the water out of the attic. Thankfully only ruined a little bit of insulation and cracked the just repaired drywall joint, could have been much worse. So yea, that fear is definitely warranted. Next day the roofers came, ripped off the old roof, and got most of the new one on. Of course it also rained that night, but not as bad, and nothing leaked. That was not fun at all.

Im pretty lucky that all of my radiators are fitted using flexi piping, so all i had to do was put down a couple 2.5 litre paint cans, lift the radiator off the wall and lay it on the tins.
Full, easy access to the back then! Lovely!

Looks good, only thing that I saw a problem with is where you put ice and water shield over the valleys and on the rakes. I’m confident you will end up with a leak after a year or two, because that peel & stick will separate from that painted metal.

You spoke to the stress of rain. Us as a crew of 4 tore off one side of a 24 square roof so roughly 12 square uncovered. No rain in the forecast at all then the national weather service came on and said a storm picked up over lake superior and was approaching at 40mph with gusts up to 60mph. We had just finished tearing off and started papering. I was the last one to step onto the ladder to get down as the rain and a 50mph gust hit. Most scared of having rain destroy a building ive ever experienced i thought. Then a 60mph gust blew the top row of paper off so in a thunderstom me and 2 other guys cralled up there and re papered the peak as one guy visqueened in the attic to try to catch as much water as possible. All said and done we got like 2in of rain in 40min and 2 of the apartmets had a bit of water damage on the ceiling that a bit of paint covered. All was good but man was that scary

Get some solar panels on the roof once it's all done! it'll pay for itself in a couple years and then you've got free electricity - combine with a battery and you've got power during a blackout.

i had a roof replaced on my house two years ago and i am still finding old roofing nails in the yard. i spent two weeks with three different types of magnets in the driveway collecting nails and i guess that was good not one flat from a roofing nail so far. look inside your gutters you will find a bunch of nails there and they will get washed down from the rain and out into your yard and driveway. but what you are doing looks great keep up the good work

A funny thing, when you're working on your own house. You give it 150%, don't take breaks and don't take a proper lunch. At the end of the day when you're tired, you are actually tired as s***! It's extremely easy to overcook a day when you're working on your own place.

I’m a longtime fan and really like your work and how important it is for you to do a proper Jobb. One thing that struck me in this episode is the use of shingles as a roofing material. Here in Sweden and most of Europe shingles don’t meet the standard for roofing except on buildings like garages and barns. My house built in 1917 has original brick pans and they are in excellent shape even though we live in pretty harsh climate. Brick. Pans or metal roofs are the standard here and have been for hundreds of years.

I'm not sure what the cost of the Zip sheathing is, but with all of the metal, filling gaps with Lexel, underlayment, multiple passes of nailing stuff down, zip taping the exposed seams on the existing sheathing, labor for all the extra steps, etc. Would it not have been at least a similar cost to take it back to trusses and replace it with your preferred roofing?
