    Great Video and find for that album. I prize my Federal Duck stamps and it’s complete. Every year the Post Master has the new editions for my collection. The website Kens Stamp Collection mentioned you about your Japanese album. You, Ken and Gram Beck are my favorites for your delivery and content. I always look forward to your videos. So thank you and Happy Collecting

    Great finds! I believe some of the Hudson-Fulton issues were issued imperforate, though I don't remember the specific reason; Scott lists them as #373, with a cat of $25 in my 2009 edition. So a bonus great find for the album! Loved seeing all the duck stamps too!

    Hi Mr. Silk, you really have a knack for finding excellent album buys. Even though you do your due diligence and are patient, it is still somewhat of a gamble and you seem to win nicely. Thanks for another great video!

    Love your enthusiasm for the hobby. I don't collect US but love the classics of any country (and the stories behind them). Nice acquisition, again :-)

    That was well worth the cost especially since a lot of the stamps were needed for your collection.

    You got a bargain there especially if the stamps you said were new had full gum and no thins or creases. The number 1 duck stamp is really nice and having a few mint other early duck stamps makes it especially good. As someone who collects bird stamps myself I particularly like them. But the rest of the collection is easily worth a lot more than you paid for it. Good intuition.

    Congrats on this purchase, Mr. Silk, and please tell Mrs. Silk that her hubbie is an outstanding merchant. Just the value of the duck stamps justifies that you bought this neat album. Fiscal stamps are not a big thing over here, but the markets in the UK and U.S. are a little bit different, that´s for sure ! Keep it up, and see you on the next one ! Greets from GER, U.

    You did very well with your purchase. The duck stamps alone, most likely paid for your purchase. That is why I like buying collections, as you never know what you will find. You can buy singles , if you see something that you really like and of course, then you know what you are getting. But you can find gems unexpectedly, and in unexpected places, as good stamps can easily be tucked away and forgotten about; especially in disorganized places like envelopes; etc. You can find things a whole lot cheaper than if you would buy them as singles. You mentioned the Cattle in the Storm; in a fairly recent purchase I unexpectedly found a nice $2 1898 Trans-Mississippi stamp. That stamp would have cost me more, if I had bought it as a single, than what I paid for the entire collection. Most recently I purchased a collection of mostly Swedish stamps. There was one odd envelope stuffed with mostly unused US stamps, many which were damaged and suitable only for postage. However, there were also some nice NH plate blocks. One of the NH plate blocks was a $1 Presidential from the 1938 series. There was also a nice NH 10 cent coil strip of 3 from the same set. The 10 cent unused coil from that set is one of the better stamps from that series. Keep buying collections and be diligent and careful to check varieties and I am sure that you will be amazed by what you are able to secure. The imperforate Hudson-Fulton stamp is legitimate that way. It is Scott 373 and catalogs more than the perforated variety. From 1906 to 1926, sheets of stamps were purposely left imperforate so that vending and affixing machine companies could apply their own perforations. The blue cancellation that you pointed out may not mean that much. The US Specialized Catalog does list cancellations of different colors for many 19th Century stamps, but not so much for late 19th Century and later.

    Re: Hudson-Fulton.... that issue comes perf and unperf. Kansas-Nebraska issues - there are quite a number of forged overprints.... you really hafta check EACH ONE.... which to me, like checking perfs and varieties of the Washington-Franklins, is a PIA to me. Some nice stamps in that album, as usual. Nice batch of Quackers....... When you say a $35.oo album, is that the total price, or sans postage? Thanks for another interesting video.

    • @silkontheweb
      @silkontheweb  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great info, thanks! And yeah, the $$$ I share is for the album itself, I've considered adding the postage but to me that's paying for the shipping and the convenience of shopping from home, not the album itself, and $42.68 or whatever doesn't have quite the same ring to it. :) I don't want to give a false impression though, so perhaps I should reconsider...

    I love your enthusiasm and I enjoy watching your videos. As mentioned before, because of you, I started to collect USA stamps. Can you recommend some websites that can tell me more about the history of USA philately? I don't mean Wikipedia pages, but interesting blogs, stamp associations, TH-cam channels, etc. Thanx a lot and keep those videos coming .👏

      There's an old paperback book I'd point you to, produced by the Postal Service in the 70s I think called Stamps & Stories. Lots of fascinating history and the stories behind the stamps, probably available on a secondhand site for cheap.

    Interesting that my Duck stamp #1 also has a straight edge on one side. It is the only one in my collection with a straight edge.

    How do you “recycle” the albums in which you no longer have an interest? Do you sell them on eBay? Do you offer them to those who may be interested. I love your videos. They are informative and very entertaining. Keep up the good work. Thanks, Mike

      Thanks for watching! Glad you're enjoying them, they've been a lot of fun to create. For now I'm holding on to most of them, with the thought that one day I may fill them up with my duplicates and put them up on Ebay. For now though, I'm squirreling them away and looking forward to future projects.

    • @silkontheweb
      @silkontheweb  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely... any stamp that fills a gap in one of my collections is valuable to me, both because I love it, and it saves me the $$ it would have taken to buy it. But if you're talking really valuable take a look at my how to find great stamps on Ebay video for an example... finds are out there!
